All your videos are so inspiring Marco and raw! I love all of your footage man keep the good energy and enjoy the travels friend! I can’t wait to one day be on this path.
It's not about getting the full amount. When you use card for payment, Uber doesn't pay them properly. They then have to waste a day to go to bank and claim the payment. That's why most of them cancel the ride when you pay by card.
I am throughly enjoying the real raw videos. I have never been able to travel abroad, but I am touring vicariously throughly your videos. Thank you for your efforts. I am enjoying the raw reality.
Just did a week in Sri Lanka last week and whilst most the people are friendly and helpful. I couldn't stand that most people were being fake in the name of trying to get money from you in some way. Tuk tuks were by far the worst, not content with taking you to where you asked they try to pressure you into using them to go everywhere and keep recommending stops on the way so they get a kick back. They target solo travellers especially I noticed. I asked a conductor for a bus how much the ticket was to Kandy from Dambulla he said 500 and then halfway he told me its 650 when I told him of our conversation he pretended to act stupid like I meant another destination. These people let the country down big time.
# 4 it has been a few years but my wife would go to a big fish market in Cebu - stinks to the high heavens but Filipino think it is perfume to them. Anyway she would buy a lot of dried fish that looks like it had been dead for 100 years to take back to the states. Wrap it up in news paper and plastic and hope you can use your suitcase again.
I had to laugh out loud at this comment. My wife took me to that same big Cebu fish market downtown. It reeks of rotting fish. I was dry heaving 30 seconds into the place, and my wife seemed totally unaffected. She was buying some fresh shrimp. How can fresh seafood smell so terrible?? I swear I almost died that day😂
3:50 lol. But yeah i can understand how you feelin. Seems really wound up that dude. Cant get a word in 😂... Him and one of my aunts would make good couple. The language barrier would drive me nuts to be honest lol 9:18 😂 I need to stop saying thing lol.... Man best Uber driver. The miscommunication is insane
Sri Lanka is paradise compared to India. Was just there for 3 weeks. Paid cash for EVERYTHING, and OVER PAID for EVERYTHING, and it was still cheap as fuck. Give em an extra $1, for God's sake. (Also, no one in Sri Lanka can read a map. It's shocking. They don't know how)
Good video Marco,That dude you met at the beach seemed like a really friendly cool dude with pretty decent english.I hope you do have a follow up video with him where you go fishing with a local, that sounds like a awesome side quest.
Yeah! he seemed friendly enough! I was going to, but I ended up leaving the city, would have been a cool idea but yeah ended up going for a different direction :)

From watching these videos I notice how dense some of the other countries out there are not counting the few that are less dense but more spread out in population. Each country looks unique and cool in their own way.
# 6 that busy street is amazing, so much food of all kinds being moved to stores. Where did they get it ? Does it come off the trains, or large trucks that just park and off load. Carts moving every where at once, everyone in the way of some one else. I feel stressed just watching and wonder how they all know where to go.
Even the tuktuks on the road charge the same high prices from locals because of the economic problems unless we use uber or pickme because they are companies they dont charge a lot. In my opinion Rs.200 more than the price mentioned on uber is a fair price.
Yes bro but TH-cam is my business and everything needs to be documented and go through accounting software for me to claim and pay tax. I won’t cancel and pay cash so they can avoid paying tax. I understand Uber probably take too much and that’s an issue for the Sri Lankan government to take up with Uber. For me Uber / Grab are great systems where you know the price upfront, you can see a map and duration and you don’t need to deal with cash, you can contact the driver or Uber if you leave an item in the tuktuk / car and you are covered by Ubers insurance along with knowing you are in safe hands with a driver who has their details on file. As you saw I sometimes give tips to the drivers too to say thank you if they were good. I’ll pin this comment so people understand the reasons 🙏🏽
Try specking british english and see if they start understanding you better. i feel like your accent is hard for them to hear, or you talk to fast, NOT being mean, but i do know when english is thought its british english....

Marco, welcom to Sri Lanka. There seem to be miscommunication with these Tuk Tuk drivers. May be your accent is too strong for them to understand. Happense with a lot of turist and local people.
Your video made me wonder what the side to side head movement was when communcating with people, the internet said it's a common gesture in Sri Lanka known as the "head wobble" or "head shake." It's a non-verbal communication style that can convey various meanings, including agreement, acknowledgment, or understanding, depending on the context of the conversation. It's a cultural nuance that might seem unusual to those unfamiliar with it but is a natural part of communication in Sri Lanka.
and its the type of gesture that a foregner will catch on to use themselves very very fast..cos its real raw body language u know...kinda infectious id say
Dude i see a lot of ppl comment saying they never will visit srilanka bcz of your efn uber. I dont know wtf you were thinking. Its more of a misunderstanding tham whatever shit you were buzzing
Lol okay mate! They can decide after they seen the other 4 videos that show how good the country and people are. Not going to show a dishonest video about how perfect everything is
Mate, me and the Mrs. just came back to Thailand, from Sri Lanka. I experienced the exact same thing with the Ubers and them asking for cash. I found out the reason: So it takes quite some time for the Uber drivers to be credited the money in their account whenever a customer pays by card. By the time these guys get their Sri Lankan Rupees from Uber in their Sri Lankan bank account, the value of it has probably plummeted due to the consequences of the Economic Crisis and poor state of their currency. They ask for cash so they can use it directly to buy goods, such as food supplies, or convert it to USD before the value of their money gets less. It was very frustrating, but seeing that these guys earn a very bad living from Uber (which is actually significantly lower than official metered taxis!) plus the state of their economy and currency, it puts them lot in a tricky spot. Oh and FYI, you can choose to pay your Uber in Cash in Sri Lanka! That was what the guy was aiming at. Cheers mate!
Yeah mate the currency is screwed! I do feel for them, but I also need to use my money wisely too as I need to lodge and pay my own tax and the Uber app does the transaction for me. It all adds up as im using Ubers multiple times a day.
hi the tuk tuk drivers will drive you crazy trying to charge upto 10x the price the city centre mall also has the new marriot hotel we stayed there december.
Go back and explore more in the Philippines like islands and beaches if you are looking for VIEWS, but if you are learning other cultures, explore Asia..
it's because uber takes 30% from them for using the app. So technically uber ruined their tuktuk economy gig. but i'm sure they would make consistent money if they just work with uber throughout the day.
Yeah mate for sure. Ahh not really, but my entire vibe was off in that area, it’s not a nice feeling, hard to describe, as you saw, I was fumbling on my words. It’s very hard to describe something that is loud, but also has a eerie silence feeling at the same time… Makes absolutely no sense at all, but that’s how it felt 🤷🏽
Well here's a tip from a Sri Lankan. Never get in a tuktuk who speaks a lot. They're pure scammers. That security guy was so rude A new subscriber here 🙋♀️❤

# 5 side comment - at the fish store, the large man in back with the red shirt, smiled - most of front teeth gone. You see that so much in the PH. It is like the dentists don't know about fillings. My wife had one tooth pulled when she was in her late teens or early 20's. The dentist can charge more for in extraction than a filling. I will be age 81 in Jan. and I still have all my original teeth. Had my first root canal a few months ago, $1800. then a month later a new filling on top of that dead tooth for another $200. Fillings and crowns but the teeth are still mine. Taking them all to the grave with me.
husband speaking - I made it Mr. Marco - a little late but probably was taking a nap. Similar in the PH, taxies will always ask for a little extra tip. Getting one at a mall or nice hotel, they must use their meter. Giving an extra 50 peso's is ok. They have a hard job driving all over Cebu in such heavy traffic. They may be out for many hours just to make a salary. I think the drivers rent the taxi from the owner, must pay a set amount each day ? and he gets the rest. Since my wife has a car we almost never take a taxi anymore. What pisses my wife off to no end is when a taxi driver tries to cheat a little by driving a longer route to where she wanted to go. She lets the guy know right away that she knows the way, don't try to cheat your own people.
# 2 car horns - there was a time in the last 45 years of my trips to the PH, that it seemed like everyone used their horns constantly. Then a time when you came to a red light my wife's brother would turn off his car. ? It seemed like everyone was doing that too. I don't know if they thought it would save gas. What drives me up a wall, and i'm not the one driving, is cars not using their lights at night, or only their running lights, motor bikes, no lights, trikes with no reflectors on the back. Just pedaling along in the dark. It is their darn life at stake and it seems like they don't care.
Far out I know everyone is trying to communicate but how frustrating! You are very courteous when they know they are trying to pull the wool over your eyes
You can get a tuktuk in Colombo for 1000 per hour.Their are lots that speak good english. You just have to ask.Ask until you find one that does.Sri lankans are awesome. And so are heaps of tuktuk drivers.Find a good one and get their ph no🙏👍😎
If you are a tuk tuk driver I think you will do the same thing because Uber share is very high compared to the cost for the ride. Driver will have very less which is some time even not enough to cover there daily expenses. If Uber charge reasonable amount they won’t do this kind of things
That’s not my problem, I want the benefits of the app. The Sri Lankan government should take it up with Uber. They are the ones who signed up to Uber, no one forced them too. A good driver get a tip anyways
an uber tuk tuk driver left me stranded in kandy, even though I paid for 3 stops through uber. I caught another tuk tuk and when I returned I gave him 1 star and reported him...he went from 5 star to 1 star then was kicked off uber. report them! there are heaps of honest uber drivers.
Id say uncut and raw is the way to go...video turned out great! Man I don't know if I would have the patience for tuk tuk drivers...like the city center guy who wouldn't shut up and listen while he talked so loud and ignored what you were saying. Especially the crooked ones and when he wanted the 600. I think dealing with them all day would drive me nuts! I must say I don't think I like the place too much. So did you catch a buzz off the leaf and paste stuff? Cheers
Never tell a taxi, tuktuk or any transportation driver you only been in the country for a day or even a few days, you will always get ripped of on the fares.
Sinhala and Tamil are the main languages spoken in Sri Lanka and from my study the seafood is awesome and cheap unlike here in Australia where we paid $50kg for prawns for Christmas and $25 for a 200 gram frozen lobster from woolies! I’m even going to Sri Lanka purely to eat seafood! Go to ministry of crab and do a video please 😊 bit sad that people are willing to take money from your hand but not willing to shake it 😢also i think you’re meant to rehydrate the dried fish by soaking it in fresh water
@Nuwan.99 how it showing how my trip went the wrong opinion? Wait till you see my other videos where I show off the great places and people of the country. No idea why you are backing up the dishonest people of your country
@@Nuwan.99 what seems to be the problem with my video then? I would really like to know … You are super angry and commenting on everything 😂 The good people get shown, the bad people get shown, exactly how it happens. Please explain
Wow such a place of contrast bro. Big buildings with nice views but the locals are riddled with poverty. They have had some bad political shit going on the last few years. Their old leader was very corrupt. Love the content. Even if you think its not that interesting it is raw footage with no bullshit. The real deal with no sugar coating. One thing i have noticed from the more popular travel blogs is they often go to india and pakistan for long periods to gain their subscriber base. Its just a numbers game. Your time will come! Keep up the good work!
If you believe that trishaw drivers are poor, you are mistaken. they earn more money than the average office clerk. They just want more money. Even the people who collect garbage are richer than you think. They demand bribes to collect garbage. looking poor people are not always poor.

that dead tooth for another $200. Fillings and crowns but the teeth are still mine. Taking them all to the grave with me.
Watching from The Philippines. Stay safe bro.
Thanks bro! I am in Cebu haha
@@marcoroamsReally? Haha. Thought you're in Sri Lanka. Enjoy your stay there bro. Lovely city, lovely people. You spent Christmas here in the PH?
Perhaps just go out of Colombo and travel to Sri Lankan countryside
Marco Roames reporting from columbo Sri Lanka ......
😊
😂😂😂
Uber charges are too high drivers get paid much less. That's why they don't want to do uber.
My suggestion is they don’t use the Uber App to get the jobs, that way Uber can’t take any money
Happy New Year. All the best 2024.
The security guard looks scary sh!t 😂
This happened to me at Bangkok airport. Taxi driver arrived and canceled my trip to try and charge me more money in cash 💰
Unprofessional isn’t it!
Real and raw is what is most respected 💓
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
husband speaking - I made it Mr. Marco - a little late but probably was taking a nap. Similar in the PH, taxies will
always ask for a little extra tip. Getting one at a mall or nice hotel, they must use their meter. Giving an extra 50 peso's
is ok. They have a hard job driving all over Cebu in such heavy traffic. They may be out for many hours just to make a salary.
I think the drivers rent the taxi from the owner, must pay a set amount each day ? and he gets the rest. Since my wife has a car
we almost never take a taxi anymore. What pisses my wife off to no end is when a taxi driver tries to cheat a little by driving a
longer route to where she wanted to go. She lets the guy know right away that she knows the way, don't try to cheat your own
people.
Bro go to a place called Dutch Hospital… miniseries of crab 🦀
# 2 car horns - there was a time in the last 45 years of my trips to the PH, that it seemed like everyone used their
horns constantly. Then a time when you came to a red light my wife's brother would turn off his car. ? It seemed like
everyone was doing that too. I don't know if they thought it would save gas. What drives me up a wall, and i'm not the
one driving, is cars not using their lights at night, or only their running lights, motor bikes, no lights, trikes with no reflectors
on the back. Just pedaling along in the dark. It is their darn life at stake and it seems like they don't care.
Far out I know everyone is trying to communicate but how frustrating! You are very courteous when they know they are trying to pull the wool over your eyes
Nah man, you're a reporter now. No turning back
Marco Reports!
It’s official 🫡
You can get a tuktuk in Colombo for 1000 per hour.Their are lots that speak good english. You just have to ask.Ask until you find one that does.Sri lankans are awesome. And so are heaps of tuktuk drivers.Find a good one and get their ph no🙏👍😎
Man, these Uber drivers are villains
If you are a tuk tuk driver I think you will do the same thing because Uber share is very high compared to the cost for the ride. Driver will have very less which is some time even not enough to cover there daily expenses. If Uber charge reasonable amount they won’t do this kind of things
That’s not my problem, I want the benefits of the app.
The Sri Lankan government should take it up with Uber.
They are the ones who signed up to Uber, no one forced them too.
A good driver get a tip anyways
an uber tuk tuk driver left me stranded in kandy, even though I paid for 3 stops through uber. I caught another tuk tuk and when I returned I gave him 1 star and reported him...he went from 5 star to 1 star then was kicked off uber. report them! there are heaps of honest uber drivers.
colombo is _boring_ ...negombo never sleeps!
Wow that is terrible!!
So sorry man
Some mad people do so even for locals as well
I think Uber gets weeks to settle payment
Dear brother, coming visit Bangladesh vlog vedio... It's very nice beautiful country... Every person are very friendly and hospitable
Thank you for visiting Sri Lanka
dude Don't thank him.Read the comments in this video.this man is trying to give a wrong opinion about Sri Lanka to the world.
@Nuwan.99 how it showing how my trip went the wrong opinion? Wait till you see my other videos where I show off the great places and people of the country. No idea why you are backing up the dishonest people of your country
@@marcoroams different people with different opinions.. anyways glad u came to sri lanka.. thank you❤..
@@marcoroamsDid I say anything about the tuk tuk driver? Why do you say that I stand for dishonest people
@@Nuwan.99 what seems to be the problem with my video then? I would really like to know …
You are super angry and commenting on everything 😂
The good people get shown, the bad people get shown, exactly how it happens.
A very nice place to go is a place called NEGOMBO…RIGHT BY THE SEA..…MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN COLOMBO CITY
29:55 Nice they speak Tamil.
He said chew 3 times, not 30!! and if you talk cricket your in.
Haha! I ended up buying a Sri Lankan cricket jersey and they loved it
