  • One of my most loyal subscribers wrote in requesting that I make a video tour of the Harvard Club of New York. As soon as I read his message, I was pretty sure I wouldn't be able to get through the crimson tinged walls of the Harvard Club.
Instead, I decided to make Sammy a video of Manhattan's Club Row on West 44th Street, where the Harvard Club, Penn Club, and New York Yacht Club are located.
Obviously these are all pretty exclusive clubs and there was no way they were going to open their doors for a camera toter like me. The club buildings are all architecturally significant and it's worth seeing them, if even from the sidewalk.
Significantly, the Harvard Club of New York was deigned by Charles McKim of famous architectural firm McKim, Mead & White. If you look at the place after a few drinks, you might think you're in Cambridge.
The limestone New York Yacht Club is famous for its sailboat style windows. While the Penn Club look distinguished from the outside, I didn't get a chance to research the history of the building.
West 44th Street is located close to Times Square, and tourists are a common sight. Office buildings are everywhere, so men and women in power suits and fancy coats rush by in a vain attempt to make their next meeting.
Drivers tending to shiny Cadillac's, Lincoln's, and the occasional Mercedes verify the existence of privileged class inside the secretive lairs of West 44th Street.
To the layman, West 44th Street is typical of Manhattan. From the sidewalk, these clubs look like yet another doorman building, fancy restaurant, or hotel. They probably wouldn't have it any other way.
Enjoy the video, no membership dues required!

These clubs are beautiful--- I used to be a member of the Princeton Club (they let SUNY Binghamton and Columbia students have membership.) I've been invited to the Harvard, Yale and Penn Clubs--all lovely but the Harvard Club is exquisite inside! Their huge, gorgeous Christmas tree is really lovely. It's nice to have these clubs as an oasis in the jungle.

Thanks for watching and for the additional information, Julie! I like how these clubs are committed to heritage and tradition. Like you said, no matter how crazy things get in Times Square, these clubs provide their members a peaceful oasis in the Urban Jungle. Happy Thanksgiving to you, wishing you all the best!

Cameras/photographs are not permitted in the NYYC. I have dined there and the model yacht room is spectacular. Especially if you love model ships. All of these clubs are very old school. 44th street is one of the nicer streets in mi-town.

Thanks for commenting, Ani! Wow, that's amazing you dined at the NYYC, so much history and tradition in that building. I love admiring the architecture from the outside, such a unique design among the skyscrapers of midtown! Wishing you all the best in 2022!

Jonathan Browne Menzies Patrick Bateman was tight at the Harvard club with Tim Price just last week in fact, I believe he was in fact reading a book before going back to equinox for a quick workout. I’m going to go workout with him this week.

Nice vids, although I wish you would do a little more background research in advance of the tour so you had more info to discuss, rather than seeming like you are just winging it as you go.

Hey Harrision, thanks so much for watching! I actually was just kind of winging it, showing people what I was seeing. Maybe I'll make an update to this video that's more informative. Feel free to add any information that might be helpful. Thanks for commenting, I appreciate all suggestions. Wishing you a great summer!
