I think usermod is a file that needed downloading How i got my 'user' sudo priv was going into the sudoers file as root with nano and editing it to give me sudo priv
Maybe a noob question but, Is there a keyboard shortcut to terminal emulator? Searched the webs and nothing works. OR can I add a custom keyboard shortcut to do this?
Leave the root password blank and you will get root permissions on your user account if you fill in root you mite have to su (Switch shell to another user) I.E> root Learnt from Chris Titus Tech (old video) Installing Linux The Right Way(Debian 11) watch the way you had to get the ISO to download how things have move on??
Dude, this is a dollar sign $ and this is a pound sign, #... 🤣 Nice way to do that. I was waiting for you to edit the sudors file... Lol Wish I could think of things to do after installing. My mind is blank like "Bland Reg".. 🤔 Hahahaha. Sorry I missed the last two shows, Life is pain. Could you have TG swing by and pick me up on Venus, I need to leave "Bruce 1" for its 1 million light year service and I need a lift back to the Moon... Thanks! 😆 LLAP 🖖
Soooo what if you DID skip the root password screen during install but want to enable it after the fact. then what? A lot of tutorials on TH-cam skip the root without much explanation. But I have read that for some users it might not be the best idea to skip the root password on install especially if its for personal use. Nobody seems to fully explain it very well so maybe you or someone in the comments can clarify why some do it one way over the other. Anyways, I'm currently doing my first install of Debian, and I think Ill add a root password during the initial install process and give myself sudo privileges after(like described in this video) just because it seems like its easier to find tutorials on youtube of that process. I'm honestly so new to this linux stuff I dont know if I even make sense right now so sorry if this comment is dumb.
Even after almost a year this Video is still Valid. Great Job STL!
At about 2 minutes.
Thank you for explaining the differences between enabling a root user vs skipping it and the regular user without sudo.
Thank you, Tom, for making these videos. I am sure this will help tons of people.

Terminal shortcuts are dependent on the desktop environment. In Cinnamon and I think in Gnome, Ctl+alt+T gets you a terminal window.

if I self-host I don't care about sudo unless it's got a desktop.
