This is all I run in too. Remember the Stinson Evo around 12 years ago? Most defiantly a different show now. The Evo was Uber soft. Kind of miss that shoe. Happy Running!

I bought these shoes for my back surgery recovery and I absolutely love them, while I only have used them as a hiker/walker I am looking forward to being cleared to run next month and I cant wait to hit the trails! If I were to design a shoe, this would be it! I travel for work and I never know what my running opportunities will be, frequently I run trails that are a mix of paved and unpaved and I need stability which is rarely found in trail shoes. I need a Swiss Army shoe!
So far I don’t have a dedicated trail running shoe. I use my Mizuno Wave Rider for light trail running and light rocky trails because the outsole is pretty grippy and the midsole with the plate gives you a good balance of cushion and stability over uneven terrain.
While it is fine to run on light trails with your road running shoes, if you ever want to get into more technical trail running, a dedicated pair of trail runners is helpful. There are features on trail shoes that help with the slippery, rocky, and possibly wet terrain you wouldn't usually find on the road.
You think the Gaviota is similar to the old, discontinued Stinson Lite? I only know the S.L, Bondi 3 & 6, and Clifton 6 & 8. I like the Stinson Lite the best out of them all.
I’d like to snag a pair, but they only have two colorways to choose from. I don’t find them appealing to my liking. I hope they’ll release more colorways.
Because the Stinson was just released in August, the colors are pretty limited. They released a third colorway at the beginning of October, however, it looks like there will be no more color updates until next year.
The Stinson 7 is more cushioned than the Olympus 5. The Stinson boasts an impressive stack height of 42mm in the heel and 37mm in the forefoot. The Olympus only has a 33mm stack height. The Olympus runs a bit wider and has a firmer midsole foam. That helps the Olympus feel a bit more supportive underfoot. The Stinson has an active H-Frame stability plate in the midsole providing support. The Stinson would be better for all-terrain and everyday use, with more cushion and a less sticky outsole. They are both at the $170 price point after Altra lowered the Olympus from $180. They are both comparable in durability as well. The Stinson takes the edge, however, as there have been a plethora of Olympus returns. Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with the Speedland GS:TAM. It appears that that shoe is out of my price range. I will say that I haven't found any significant benefit to having a plate in a trail shoe. I would much prefer a more responsive midsole, such as the Hoka Profly midsole on the Mafate Speed 4.

I'm seriously considering the Stinson 7 as my everyday/everything walking shoe (I'm not a runner). I also supinate and have general knee/foot pain so need something with stability as well as cushioning that works on slippery and uneven surfaces. You think the Stinson 7 fits the bill?
The Stinson would be the perfect shoe for what you are looking for. It has the H-Frame support system that will help with supination. It has maximum cushion which is great for everyday walking. The sticky rubber trail outsole with help grip the slippery uneven surfaces. I just came back from a week in Porto, Portugal. It was my 4th time there and I love it.

I recently got the Gaviota 5 in a wide and Hoka has really made a wide shoe this time around that is wide and hoping they continue with this trend. The toe box on the Stinson 7 is much more accommodating. Like the Gaviota, the Stinson's toe box is nice and accommodating for people with wider feet. There aren't any plans for the Stinson to be released in a wide. However, it is always subject to change after next year.
This shoe seems to be a 'one for all' shoe. But one for all is hardly as good as in a specific matter. I am a overpronating runner and i am really thinking about if the h frame is better than the j frame for overpronation. What do you think? I am a heavy guy as well. Cheers
For addressing overpronation, the J frame technology is better for a focus on overpronation. Between the J frame and the H frame depends on your specific foot characteristics and overall needs. Steve, I got the Gaviota 5 and was thinking about these shoes. But my Gaviota and Clifton’s that I just sent back hurt the very bottom, completely in the back bottom of the heel - really hurt. I am Leary now about ordering these. I saw where some other people complained about this too. Any ideas ?

The Hoka Stinson 7 is a great shoe for hiking. I do a lot of my long runs in this shoe at Hashawha. It is perfect for long-distance walking and running. It can also be used as an everyday on-your-feet shoe. It is based on the Gaviota 5, which has been our most popular Hoka shoe over the past couple of months.
The Stinson fits similarly to the Gaviota so the fit is naturally wider. A lot of people with wide feet are able to fit in a standard Gaviota / Stinson, however, it does differ per person. We suggest trying the shoe on before purchasing to make sure it fits and feels as expected.

Lots of Hoka's shoes are named after beaches. The Stinson is named after Stinson Beach, which is just north of San Francisco, California.

Hoka quality is garbage. They fall apart far too fast for the cost.
