Why not? They had to call Singapore once, with Chris asking if the contestant would pay for the call. It's interesting to hear where throughout the world friends are at. It fills time while the call is being made, relaxes the contestant , audience members can relate & makes the entire show more relaxed & humanizes the experience. A small thing to be irritated at given the world's problems now.
Why does Tarrant always ask where the phone a friend lifeline is? What does it matter? In Sweden, the presenter just asks who they are - husband/wife/partner, friend, family member etc. Isn’t it completely irrelevant where they are? I would reply ‘At home’!
