  • Hey Everyone,
    Here is my simply technique to weather your tracks in any scale RC or static. This can be used on plastic and metal tracks although with metal you would need to prime first.
    Hope you enjoy the video. Any questions please leave them in the comments and I will do my best to answer them.

    I have been trying to get in modeling and have been struggling with what to do with the tracks. I plan on doing a lot of experimenting and creating my own techniques but I will probably mix your technique into mine to make my own look. Thanks!

    I use 1 drop of Gun Metal and 3 -4 drops of saddle brown mixed 1: 3.5 with water and that works perfectly for rust

    Another technique I use is to place the freshly painted track in a ziplock with baby powder, shake it very well, and repaint and dry brush with a dull yellowish color. Wash with a dark color of your choice, and then a very light dry brush with a dark steel'ish color.

    I keep missing the part of the video where you the Metallic Gray paint. Did you use a mixture of the Chromium Silver and Metallic Gray for your dry brushing? Or was Metallic Gray intended as an alternative? Great effect!

    Great video! I'm currently working on a model that will be painted in an Arctic camo pattern. Would you paint the tracks any differently to simulate that kind of environment? I wouldn't think there would be a lot of mud caked on them as compared to the same vehicle rolling across the Russian steppes.

      Don't trust me on this cause I don't know jack about this stuff but I'm guessing that you should use some sort of white paint to weather the tracks and also a little bit if gray and use an air brush l

    +Great simple video. Compared to andy's hobby headquarters (which is a top channel) you needed AK model wash, 4 pigments, Fruil tracks, 3 x mix ratio Tamiya paint mix for airbrushing and then finally a dry brushing technique after that!
    I tried a Nato Black base, then a Mr. Gunze steel over the top to get a similar choppy steel look. Not as detailed as this but better than overdoing the mud pigments and all that crap. In my experience, too much weathering creates too much opportunity to ruin a model beyond repair. (each to their own.
    I do have a request though. Tamiya's JS2 1/35 Box art has perfect coloured tank tranks, and am hoping someone could do a tutorial on how to create that weathered dulled down metallic look.Cheers. Have seen you at Crazy Hobbies in Stanmore - if anyone on here is looking for an inner western sydney shop which has good range of scale models, Crazy hobbies in Stanmore is a good place.

    tracks are STEEL SILVER then a crap coat of black paint stuck on them then covered in a oil / tar mix to stop them rusting then when you put them on the afv they look great up until you drive it anywhere when it for the most part comes off you get mud on the running gear (tons of it) and the tracks are silfer and rust and a tiny bit of black no mud until you stop but as soon as it moves the mud comes off so think on this and as great as your tracks are there is much more silver on show from running on muddy (with stones) and just stones and roads i used to drive an afv 432 mk2 for the british army and the rust is on the bits not touched by the wheels and ground

    Nice technique, and a fine display of dry brushing. I would suggest a good wash with a dark grey or similar color, and then dry brush with a second lighter rust color. The steel/aluminum you use might be a bit too bright. I would suggest a darker steel color followed with a very light brushing with your lighter metallic color. Tank tracks, while well worn with use over hardtop, rarely take on a bright sheen. But thanks for sharing your hobby and passion.

    The easy way is to go in you backyard, get the garden hose, find a nice pile of dirt, spray the dirt with your hose, then dump the tracks in the pile.

      it works the same but you just paint the rust colour in enamel and if you drive the tank on concrete the tracks will weather natura to get the silver shine

    is this an effective way to realistically paint the tracks?: what if i buy say the metal tracks or paint the plastic ones silver and then put the rusty top coat over the silver and drive the tank on say concrete until that silver finish shows thru from the rust paint being scratched off. Will that work as well?

    • @RCTanksTrucks247
      @RCTanksTrucks247  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep that would work. I would recommend the metal tracks though if your budget allows it.
