    Also, hit the Muhammad Ali Museum, go party on Bardstown Road, and hit some local eateries

      @Meet The Mazelins I would suggest a great locally owned upscale soul food restaurant called Dasha Barbour. Its on Main Street and has a DJ or live entertainment on the weekends. Its a great vibe. For standard, Kentucky fare, try The Bristol. For real chicken, get an Uber and go to the hood to Indi's. For great ice cream, Louisville Cream.

    Hey guys. Enjoyed your video of your visit to Louisville. I am a native of the area of 74 years so I know the city well. KFC was started by Harlan Sanders in Corbin, KY but when the franchising of chicken outlets really took off the headquarters move to Louisville where it remains out on Gardiner Lane. Sander actually lived out in Shelby County about 20 miles east of Louisville near Shelbyville. HIs home was called Blackwood Hall. He opened a restaurant next to his home named Claudia Sanders Dinner House which is still in operation. If you want to see some of the Louisville ex-urbs get an Uber out there and enjoy a great southern, home cooked meal. Also, next trip be sure to visit the Ali Center, eat a hot brown at the English Grill in the Brown Hotel and take the Old Forrester Bourbon Distillery Tour (119 West Main.)

      I used to live not too far from Yum headquarters on Gardiner. And my time in Louisville was turbulent (moved there just before the pandemic) but I loved it and look forward to going back for visits!

    Louisville, KY is so underrated. Theatre, ballet, orchestra, museums, opera, sports, LGBTQIA+ clubs, and great diversity in music, food and drink (eat local/drink responsibly 😘). Ya'll NEED to come back for Thunder Over Louisville 🎆, dress in your finest for Derby 🎩, cruise around all points and joints, and cap it off with a Cinco de Mayo celebration. Much love and hope to see you soon. ✈

      From the little time we spent there we could tell that there really was so much more that we didn’t have the chance to see. We knew we needed some local input though so we are so happy if or all these comments on this video as we fully intend to come back and do more than just a day stay! Thanks so much for your contribution too Simon and maybe you will even see us on our next visit!

    Hey there! I am so glad you all enjoyed my home city. Next time - you MUST check out more of the food scene. Avoid the chains at 4th Street and check out the locally owned gems in NULU. NULU is a very cool part of downtown, and next time it would be worth a short trip to The Highlands/Bardstown road. A very cool/hipster part of town with great restaurants and shops.

    Oh, a cliffhanger! Looking forward to your news, guys.
    Louisville looked like a good time. My only time in Kentucky was when I flew to Cincinnati, Ohio. I thought I made a major mistake when I got off the plane and saw a sign that said, 'Welcome to Kentucky!' I didn't realize the airport was right on the Kentucky side of the Ohio/Kentucky border. Love seeing you guys smiling and enjoying quality time together.

The dating scene has been just as bad as in LA as well! Considering the crappy weather here, I wish I hadn't left honestly! I'm glad you have experienced REAL people tho!

    You should come back during the Gaslight Festival. Basically all of Louisville can set up booths on Watterson Trail and all the roads are closed for this event. You can walk around and buy stuff from people. It’s not like a yard sale, they usually make the stuff. One time I got a belt and they stamped my name into it right in front of me. Also I didn’t see the whole video, but you should go on the walking bridge into Indiana if you come back.

      @@MeetTheMazelins Something I think is fun to do if you like bourbon is design your own. Barrels and Billets lets you take a quiz and then makes a bourbon that you can name based on your quiz. It's a little pricey, but fun to do. You can do the quiz on line, then pick up your bottle when you get there. The Speed Art Museum is also a good place to visit and definitely do the Church Hill Downs tour and museum. Muhammad Ali Museum is great, Bardstown Road is where you can hit tons of bars and restaurants. I could go on and on. I don't live there, but have a family member who does. Great place to visit.

    Kentucky derby museum and actually seeing some races is a absolute must. The Muhammad Ali museum is cool. Any bourbon distillery in the city or outside the city is worth it for sure! Sooo many distilleries to try and I assure you they ALL have bourbon balls. If you rent a car and go to Frankfort about a 45 min drive east Buffalo Trace has a free tour and it’s one of the best distilleries in the country IMO

    I recommend the Frazier history museum, I know it sounds a bit boring but it’s really interesting and has some really fun tours. I also recommend going into some of the other neighborhoods especially for food and shopping, nulu has some amazing shopping, bardstown and germantown have some great food and shops, and those are just a few!

  • @brittanywieber7164
    @brittanywieber7164 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bardstown road is where a lot of shops, bars, and restaurants are. Down by the waterfront there is "the walking bridge" you can walk across that bridge to get to Indiana. There are things to do on both sides of the bridge. I think riding the scooters are a fun way to see the city/waterfront. Royals Hot Chicken in Nulu is a good local spot. Vincenzo's Italian restaurant is downtown. Play (is a gay club in Butchertown, there's one there and in Nashville). There is a bunch of different bourbons made all over Kentucky but there are a few of the distilleries in Louisville. Angels envy, Old Forester, Rabbit Hole, Kentucky Peerless, Michter Fort distilleries are located in the downtown area. The official sandwich of the city of Louisville is the Hot Brown and was invented at the historic Brown Hotel (located downtown) in the 1920s. You can get a mint julep there as well which is the Kentucky derby signature drink. Also, you can actually go to the Kentucky Derby museum or if its a day races are going on you could enjoy that as well. The Muhammad Ali museum.

    Hello Guys!! This is the first time running into your channel and love this video. I am from and live in Louisville, and truly enjoyed your take on the city. Louisville is a foodie town. There are plenty of restaurants that are local (not big chains) that have great food; mostly located on Bardstown Road and some on Frankfort Ave that you must try when in Louisville again. New subscriber here!!

      Hey Cass! Well we are so happy that you did. We appreciate your kind words and welcome you warmly to our family here on TH-cam. Oh yes, we definitely intend to come back so those local suggestions would be great! A few people suggested Bardstown so we know it’s a must. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to sharing even more with you in 2023!

    To answer you question YES!, Colonel Harland Sanders started his first restaurant in Corbin, KY. it's still in operation serving his original recipes however it's not called KFC. The KFC franchises were essentially licensed spinoffs for which he originally helped to setup and later became the spokesperson and face of the company.
    He is buried in Louisville at the world famous Cave Hill Cemetery (amazing place, worth a visit) where people picnic at ofc enjoying his chicken.
    KFC today is part of Yum Brands, tho I think the KFC World Headquarters is still separate and visible from the Watterson expressway (look for the seamonster topiary next to a lake)
    Thanks for visiting our lovely city!

    Glad you liked our city. You didn’t experience anything that was “horse” related. Come back Derby week-end. And yes. KFC was originated in Kentucky. Not Louisville. I’m sure others gave you that info. Come back soon! ❤️

    Now y’all should have dialed me up, I’m from Louisville… born and raised.
    Looks like y’all were at The Embassy Hotel downtown by the Omni. KFC originated in Kentucky, Yum! Brands owns the brand and that houses Taco Bell and Pizza Hut as well. Random tidbits.
    Third Street Dive is a good hole in the wall bar, haven’t been there since I lived back home when I was in college. Hope it was still a good time. 21C is pretty iconic and the art is always abstract and edgy, so good. Great choice guys!
    People pronounce the city incorrectly all the time, it’s normal, no biggie. I always tell them say it this way so you sound like a local, “Loo-A-Vul.”
    Fun fact, 95% of the worlds bourbon comes from Louisville. Hopefully y’all got a good pour while there if that’s your thing.
    I won’t even go into the nightlife, that I didn’t see in the video👀👀😂. Fourth Street Live is more touristy and very straight facing. When y’all go back, head over to Bardstown road, more LGBTQIA centered.
    Looks like you both enjoyed yourselves though. 👏🏾🕺🏾🤌🏾

    • @MeetTheMazelins
      @MeetTheMazelins  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well it's never too late Jesse, because we definitely want to go back. We were so pressured with time because we woke up late the one actual day we had but we feel as though we did still get a great mix of activities to do together. It really would have topped it off if we did get the LGBTQ+ nightlife experience (which you know we love), but for SURE the next time, so we thank you for the insight! We will also make sure that we get the pronunciation right the next time too haha.
      For the things we did do, Third Street Dive really was as much as we could have asked for going out 1:30 AM. The bartender was superrrrr friendly and for who was there we felt like we were regulars with how open everyone was to interact. The art museum definitely was a highlight for us, and so happy that we found it. And of course we did get our bourbon! Nearly made me miss the flight with the fight I had to wake up 😂

I did go to the African American Heritage Center tho. Glad u both had fun. I stayed at the hotel recently for my sister’s wedding & that lobby is cute!

    Regarding Kentucky Fried Chicken. It originated in Corbin, Kentucky which is about two hours southeast of Louisville on I-75. Harlan Sanders ran a motel/restaurant in Corbin. He had failed as a businessman before, but got lucky as he experimented with different ways to fry chicken. After coming up with a secret combination of spices he discovered his chicken was the selling point of the restaurant. Unfortunately, he could not cook if fast enough to keep up with customer demand. He eventually experimented with cooking the chicken in a preasure cooker which reduced the time for preparing the chicken and he was finally able to keep up with demand. He then sold the rights to cook and serve his chicken to other restaurant owners. The governor of Kentucky gave Sanders the honorary title of Kentucky Colonal, which he used to promote is restaurant. From then on he was Colonal Sanders. Ultimately, a lawyer from Lousiville named John Y. Brown and a few other investors bought the rights to Sander's restuarant assets and the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise grew from there to what it is today. The reason for the confusion over where KFC is from might come from the fact that the first franchised restaurant to have the name Kentucky Fried Chicken was actually located in Utah. If you come back to Louisville, you can see the modern headquarters of the YUM corporation, which was originally KFC, on the south side of I-264 between the Poplar Level and Bardstown Road exits. It is only about two miles east of the airport with also is located on the south side of I-264.

    I'm lived in Louisville for all the 62 yrs of my life. I've been too other cities, but there's no place like home. I noticed that you all stayed in the downtown area, most likely because you only had a short stay here. Being from Louisville they shouldn't have never let you leave without seeing what we are really famous for, which is "Churchill Downs" home if the "Kentucky Derby"
