Pleasant video! No need to apologize for showing your feet, mate. In my experience, people that are averse to seeing feet are usually ashamed of their own because they don't take proper care of them. Barefoot is healthy!
Remember you telling us you were going to do this video, so it's been great to see it through from concept to creation. Think you smashed this one out of the park, the production quality was top notch, a chill watch but also informative all wrapped up with the usual Thom Topics style. Bravo sir 👏
Thank you so much 😊 I’m really happy with how this came out and it really enjoyed the process of making it. Hopefully there wasn’t too many ‘gross man feet’ shots in there 🦶😂
I do love it up there, its been a few weeks since I last did this walk but I expect tat it will be pretty boggy at the moment. I would 100% recommend trying the barefoot walking thing yourself, I really always feel like I get a lot out of it. Thank you for taking the time to watch.
@@ThomTopics I live in the Alps and I have some favourite barefoot hiking areas here, where the cows graze in summer above the tree line, some long grassy trails going there. I should make videos, often I just enjoy the outdoors as they are. Hiking barefoot adds another dimension and feeling nature through my feet is my number one reason to do it. Other benefits include much stronger and more stable leg muscles, tougher skin, better circulation, no more knee or achilles problems. Awareness is the key, always give attention to what you see and feel to be safe. You have a lot of good points here. Watch out for thorns and nettles, snakes and stinging insects. (Just please stop apologizing for your feet, they are perfectly fine. Perhaps a bit pale but that can be fixed with more barefoot hikes in the sun!)
@@uncipaws7643 That sounds like an amazing place to live I am a little ejelous (although I feel incredibly lucky to be able to live in the Peak District after many years in the city. The more barefoot walking I do there more benefits feel from it, it really is a great way to experience the outdoors 😊
@@ThomTopics There are still plenty of gravel roads on the "first and last mile" of many hikes before you get to the small trails that are more pleasant to the feet. And some trails are advertised as "barefoot trails" but aren't as attractive as others that don't have that label.
Enjoyed this video I will give it a go when the weather is better! Couldn’t agree more with what you said about mental health and hiking. Getting out in nature helps me so much but I’ve struggled to do that over the past few months and I’m really paying the price now !
That's the exact situation I had needed up in. Work and other aspects of life had become too hectic and I wasn't making any time for myself to do stuff like getting out walking. Thanks for taking the time to watch, I'm glad you enjoyed the video :-)
Enjoyed your video and walking presentation. I'm 76 with extensive arthritis and I walk some barefoot every day if only in my back yard. You might be interested in the "Earthing" videos on you tube, I found them most interesting and informative.
Hi Tom, thank you for taking the time to watch and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I am certainly getting more and more involved in the idea of barefoot and find it really helps with some pain I have from a previous injury. Thank you for the tip about 'Earthing', I will check this out also. Take care.
Great video! I've been doing barefoot walks since I was little but Tom and I have recently started doing it more often and totally agree that it makes you feel so much more present and connected with nature. Tom even did a 2 hour walk barefooted the other day! We've found wearing barefoot shoes are a good middle ground when the floor is too painful or gross on bare feet 😄 Thanks for sharing your experience and for your honesty. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙏 I really do want to keep doing more of this barefoot walking, as you said I love the feeling of connection you get. I am tempted to look more into the barefoot shoe aspect also, I had considered making this part of the video too but I didn’t feel like I knew enough about it to be included on this occasion properly
Anything that anyone can do to positively affect their mental health should be both cherished and encouraged. Walking is great for that, barefoot or with shoes on
I'm riddled with arthritis, fallen arches and hammer toes 🤔😂. I know I can't do it Harrison but I think it is a great idea especially on the peat paths as they are still spongy at the moment. As a mental health nurse I fully support anything that with aid with positive mental health and wellbeing. I also follow Jack a Snacks channel and he hiked up a mountain (can't remember which one) for mental health and yes, he was asked why by a lot of people but that was also his way to spread the message. I know from YT you will have the same issue as me with engagement but I can tell you that when I subscribe to a channel I do so to watch that channel. I hate the skip rate and engagement. I watch from start to finish. Great vlog as always, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for your comment Chris (and of course for taking the time to watch). This really was such a good experience for me to do and have the chance to make a video about it to share in the message. I’m sorry that you won’t be getting out doing some barefoot walking but it’s good to know how much you are getting out walking in general 👍 Take care and thank you again for your input
Loved this video. I've experienced bare foot walking and it really helps you to feel more in tune with nature and very grounded. I'd recommend it too! Thanks for sharing your experience Harrison. Take care X❤️💚
I really enjoyed this video. I love it up in the Goyt Valley. I have been wearing barefoot shoes for quite a few years now, and this year I've predominantly been wearing barefoot sandals and taking them off when the the terrain is suitable. It's a gradual process to build up your foot strength after wearing shoes your entire life, but I definitely believe there's many benefits to walking barefoot, and you did a good job of covering them here.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch Ben, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Bare foot shoes is something I would like to get more use out of, I loved making this video and showing off the barefoot experience but I agree with you that some terrain needs at least a little more protection for your feet. Hopefully see you walking in Goyt some time. Take care and have a great week.
A fab video about a great concept. Barefoot is great - just be careful with it. Being in direct contact with the floor and grounded is one of the best ways to connect with the world - as nature intended. Little steps - literally.
I quite enjoyed this video an as a 2 plus years barefooter and over 1 thousand km of barefoot hiking , I do agree with most of your positive points . I do however would like to inject my personal experience regarding your cons . Con number 1 , totally agree . at first and for a long time you do concentrate more on the ground you walk on than the upper views but since most hikers tend to neglect the ground they walk on , this could be a plus. Con number 2 is also actually a pro. yes it will be uncomfortable at first but getting out of our comfort zone is good for us and you will build tolerence . number 3 I dont get, I walk faster barefoot than most hikers an im 62. aside from, trail runners only 1 man hiker has ever passed me on a trail. number 4 I really get, at first I was very self conscious about what others might think seeing me barefoot but after a while as I realized this was for me I became PROUD of knoing was most dont. And yes , the dreaded con number 5, injuries. Walking in shoes has over years has injured my feet , knees and back. I have broken a toe only once and I was wearing boots at the time. since being barefoot over 2 years , I have cut my foot 3 times. same time , I have cut or burned my fingers 10 times while cooking
Thank you for taking the time to watch and offer such great feedback, I really can't tell you how much I appreciate it and I am sorry that I am only just replying to you now. Its so good to hear your take on the pros and cons. I think you have picked up on this but I wanted to bring up each 'con' but offer information about how it can actually be a positive thing or give some hopefully useful guidance along the way. It's interesting to also hear your take on the speed aspect, I think I am beginning to gain more speed as ai get used to barefoot walking and I'm sure that soon enough I will be as quick without shoes as I am in them. Thank you once again for watching. Take care :-)

Nice video Thom. Thank you for sharing 👍Too much rocks in Norway 🇳🇴
Thank you for taking the time to watch. Agreed, rocky Norway might not be as suitable as the mossy moorland we have here in the UK Peak District

Try this on the prairie where there cacti and rattlesnakes. Good luck.
