If this thing got scrapped, can you imagine the poor bastard at the wrecking yard with the torch cutting out the cat converters??? He'd be extra crispy.
On these 3.0T’s - Supercharger core air water intercoolers often to leak into the intake ports and sometimes hydrolock the motor. Also check the cats- known to melt due to proximity to the exhaust manifold. And lastly that vacuum pump has a gasket repair kit you can find to replace. Very common leak!
To get the converter off the flywheel of a seized engine, remove the oil pan and move the connecting rod caps or mains that are keeping the crank from turning.
I had a 1973 Mercedes 280 SEL with early fuel injection that would sometimes dump fuel into some cylinders after it was turned off. Found a used ECM that fixed it.
They are called Audi's because to service the engine, it has to come "outie" (Audi) from the car. Those aren't rings on the logo - they're decimal places for service bill
modern (2015+) Audis have gotten a lot better in that regard. The 4 cyl ones of all years though have never really needed to come out, its the big engine ones that they shove in the engine bays haha
Who else has been here since his 100 subs? This dude is grown so much from the days of working in his garage with no lift and his girlfriend. Watching JR go.
John, I know that by this time it is very likely that the new engine is already on the car but if not it is an excelent moment to change the upper timing chain tensioners. The chains are on the back of the engine and it is an engine out job. Also thermostat, crank pulley and water pump are some weak items from this engine (at least early ones).
My Honda had probably 3 gallons or more of water in the exhaust one time. It was sitting for about 7 months and we had a few big rain storms. When we started it up again water poured out the exhaust for about 15 minutes.
If you’re looking for it you’ll find muffler fluid in the flight line, blinker fluid, and freq grease aisle. In California, that’s the same aisle where the cellar keys can be found.
WOW that's narly ... Exhaust weeping ... How are you going to clear/clean the cats. Cool idea on the conference table our of the carnage. Thanks for the share.
Good ol 4 ring circus. Service position would've made it easier. The twin turbo is more of a pain, but only takes 2 hours when you know what you're doing.
Wild episode. You would never suspect the exhaust system to be full of raw fuel. I guess it's a good thing you decided to pull it. I subbed to Josh's (The Fractured Rooster Garage) channel too.
@watchjrgo got a 2007 Saab 9-7x linear any recommendations on tuning and some maintenance tips you may be able to share? Congrats by the way for sticking to what you love long time fan!
That V6 is actually the Audi V8 with two center cylinders lopped off via CAD/CAM. The Audi V8 itself is an EA827 family variant. The EA827 started out as a 1.5 liter SOHC four cylinder in 1974, but was quickly bored and stroked out to 1.6, 1.7, and 1.8 liter variants. In 1980, Volkswagen added a cylinder to this engine to produce a 2.3 liter five cylinder for Audi, since the EA827 four cannot go past 2.1 liters. The EA827 is so compact that hot rodders have installed Suzuki 1300 Hayabusa motorcycle cylinder heads, which have nearly identical bore spacing. In 1987, Volkswagen took the block design of their four cylinder engine and using computers, put two of them together on one crankshaft and created the Audi V8. A V10 was proposed as far back as 1972 as a power plant for Porsche's upcoming 928, but this idea was nixed. That V10 remained as blueprints until the late 1990's, when it was resurrected and built as the engine in the Lamborghini Gallardo and the Audi R8. A variant of the EA827, the EA888 is the 2.0 liter engine in nearly every Volkswagen and Audi car sold today.
The smart way to remove the engine/engine cradle! Yeah, I think you have a excessive gasoline issue in the exhaust pipes,.......................................................
Just be careful beating on that Tennant floor scrubber, use to operate one and the front steering chain likes to fly off if you corner like a fool. Also, paperclips are it's nemesis...
J could you really not use an engine jack? I know on the VW/Audis with the 2.0T they literally have hooks that stick out of the engine where you can run your chain and pull the engine right out and its quite an easy process. I guess you can't do that with the 3.0T?
Dude, while you are there you should also replace the muffler bearing also. It's way better to change that now with the muffler fluid vs having to tear it apart a second time when it fails!!!
Not many people know this, or so called "mechanics", the exhaust fluid is there to lubricate the exhaust bearings, and it needs changing every two years with audi approved fluid EX4 0ST. True story.
Check those cats before putting it back in. They're notorious for failing due to the location and the heat they can get, especially if you tune the engine and change the supercharger pulleys.
Are you planning to replace the timing chain ? Perfect time to do it before you put the trans to it. Pulling an Audi engine is by far the worst thing I have ever done.

Methinks cleaning up fuel with a floor machine probably isn't the greatest idea, especially since those ride on models are like 20K. Does he not have any oil dry?
Josh is the man, glad to see him back on the show!
You HAVE to do an engine teardown or send it to I Do Cars TH-cam and let him do the teardown on that engine.
Agreed
Glad you didn’t use a cutting torch on that exhaust!

I'm definitely overdue for my muffler fluid changes.
Right after your blinker fluid changes!

Sooo are cylinders of the original engine possibly just full of fuel and it's hydro locked?
They are called Audi's because to service the engine, it has to come "outie" (Audi) from the car.

Ouchie!

Fingers crossed for your ECUs. Great to see Josh again, would love to see an update on some of his builds.
John did you by chance pull the plugs out of that thing maybe it's just hydrolocked.
That’s my guess
mine too, that's why exhaust had gas in it
for sure. Injectors stuck open flooding cylinders.
.y thought to
They were out when I got it, still wouldn’t turn. 🍻
You should ask the car ninja if he ever seen gas like that come out the exhaust
I am impressed you got the motor out without putting the car in the service position.
If I could help Watch JR Goes and Joshs work on the Audi I would drink the cold Bartle Skeets and puff on the Cannabis Cigars and get all schmoked up
At least the exhaust should be fairly rust-free on the inside!
It's not every day you see an exhaust full of fuel.
I can't recall ever seeing that, especially not that much fuel
Stuck fuel injector. It happens.
Thanks JR! I’ve been waiting for an update on this car. Can’t wait to see it running.
Who else has been here since his 100 subs? This dude is grown so much from the days of working in his garage with no lift and his girlfriend. Watching JR go.
Bet that motor is hydrolocked, previous owner was likely getting it repoed, and just dumped fluid down the intake to kill the car for the bank
i would definitely do an autopsy on that old engine.
I thought the same thing.
If it’s hydro locked you can drain it and it will probably be fine
Josh is back, awesome! Welcome back Josh.

Hey, if a VW can have coolant in the instrument cluster, there’s no reason an Audi can’t have exhausts full of fuel.
My Honda had probably 3 gallons or more of water in the exhaust one time. It was sitting for about 7 months and we had a few big rain storms. When we started it up again water poured out the exhaust for about 15 minutes.
Good video, JR, fun to watch (probably not as fun to make, but the editing was great). Thanks! Dave J
The one and only time where you'll see that much fluid coming out of an exhaust system
...You haven't been watching Cleetus drive under water, have you?
For that much fuel to come out of the exhaust, it has to be hydro locked.
He said the fuel was watery too.
Hey Josh, got that Austin running.
Thank you ninja.

Finally the audi content I’ve been waiting for !
Stuck open injector. Possible. Fills the cylinder up. Bang. breaks the rod because liquids are incompressible. On start-up of course.

Faulty injector filled cylinder with exhaust valve open drained into muffler system?
That V6 is actually the Audi V8 with two center cylinders lopped off via CAD/CAM. The Audi V8 itself is an EA827 family variant. New video, with a Josh appearance....BONUS!!
Even though you addressed this in the video, aaannnddd, 75 other people have asked the same question...do you think it was hydro locked?? Lol.
Is it hydrolocked from antifreeze leaking in thru a bad head gasket? 🤔 it just might be
The smart way to remove the engine/engine cradle! Yeah, I think you have a excessive gasoline issue in the exhaust pipes,.......................................................

Gotta change that Muffler fluid....along with that blinker fluid.
Lol haha car almost pissed on you guys 🤣 that's crazy
That shit would be impossible without Ninja’s engine table. Or did you get one of your own? That thing is incredibly useful.
The thing I like is you don't just talk the talk you walk the walk
J could you really not use an engine jack? I know on the VW/Audis with the 2.0T they literally have hooks that stick out of the engine where you can run your chain and pull the engine right out and its quite an easy process. I guess you can't do that with the 3.0T?
It could be a bent exhaust valve where the fuel went directly to the exhaust system
Who doesn't love a pocketfull of exhaust soup....?
Sounds like the ideas were flowing at midnight.
I’ve seen the intercoolers in the supercharger fail and hydrolock the engine but a failed head gasket is not very common with this engine
If it’s locked up with exhaust valves open, every time you try to crank it over it’s just going to dump gas into the pipes
Injectors won’t fire unless the motor turns over there isn’t any way It can dump fuel out of them
So, maybe hydraulic lock vs totally seized engine?
Dude, while you are there you should also replace the muffler bearing also. It's way better to change that now with the muffler fluid vs having to tear it apart a second time when it fails!!!
So I wonder if it lost an injector and hydro locked on fuel. Probably a good engine.
So i noticed you missed a few episodes everything okay?
Good thing you didn’t have to torch the exhaust
That is why you get straight pipes... You never need muffler fluid anymore. Saves on that yearly maintenance cost.
I'll never own one but Audi is in my top 5 favorites
You're not lying
Soon as I saw the fluid I said the same, it was hydro locked
Not many people know this, or so called "mechanics", the exhaust fluid is there to lubricate the exhaust bearings, and it needs changing every two years with audi approved fluid EX4 0ST. True story.
Johnny (Ninja) let his beloved table out of his shop OMG - you owe him big .... come on be honest he popped in a few times just to check up on it 😂👍

Are you planning to replace the timing chain ? Perfect time to do it before you put the trans to it. Pulling an Audi engine is by far the worst thing I have ever done.
Now would be the time to do it, while engine is out
I assume that thing is hydrolocked but it would be cool to see you do a diagnostic tear down.
Could it have been a flood car. It would explain the engine locked possibly hydro locked. Great video!!
Could have been a very interesting first start if you hadn't pulled the exhaust, just changed the engine and turned the key...
Welcome Josh. Smell it don't taste it like Wizard
Well you changed the muffler fluid! I guess it's time to change the blinker bearing :-D
