This movie is a master class in how to direct children. Most directors treat kids with kid-gloves which results in muted performances, but not Richard Donner. He didn't abuse or cursed out the kid, but Donner would often yell out directions or use reverse-psychology to get an emotional reaction.
Fun Fact: Richard Donner and Harvey Bernhard asked Alan Ladd Jr., then the head of Twentieth Century Fox, for extra money during the film's post-production period to hire composer Jerry Goldsmith. They strongly felt that his music was right for the movie, after seeing him perform a live concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles earlier that year. Ladd was finally talked into giving Donner and Bernhard around $25,000 to hire Goldsmith, who would deliver his first and only Academy Award win for his score in 1977. Donner credits the success of the film to Goldsmith's score, which increased the tension and fear of the movie.

22:15, another interesting fact. Notice the length of this scene, it's longer then usual. Richard Donner knew the audience would cover their eyes during this scene and he intentionally made it longer. By the time of the initial reaction of the audience they would look and it was still happening. How brilliant is that?
Also, the great Gregory Peck didn't want to dirty up his character by him killing the child. Donner had to keep resuring Peck not to worry, hence...

Bit of cast trivia: Damien's first nanny, with the spectacular fate at the birthday party, is played by Holly Palance, actress daughter of Hollywood legend tough guy actor Jack Palance. The character is billed only as "Nanny" but notice Lee Remick calls her by her real name in the scene.

13:36, an interesting thing about that "stunt", they rigged it in a way where she didn't fall but the floor moved up or something like that and the camera zoomed out and/or reversed it and she was rigged to turn. I recently got done watching all The Omen movies. I normally don't say things like this but in this case. Only watch the original 3 stop after The Final Conflict. All I will say about the 4th one is it basically acts like a reboot. Then in the last 10 or so minutes makes a random weird connection to the 3rd movie. It completely undermines The 3rd movie basically all together. Now about the remakes I say skip it altogether because of these reasons non-spoiler. It basically and literally removes all discovery of the movie. I mean literally in the first 45 minutes you learn everything it took this entire movie . For you to discovered then it doesn't build up suspense or anything at all. It literally uses creepy scenes in the middle of nowhere. For no reason whatsoever so when something scary or creepy happened happens it has no effect. Because they did random creepy flashes throughout entire movie.

As always, I love your videos. 6:15, LOL! Buzzzzzzz! This movie makes me laugh now, I used to think it was way better (when I was, like, 9!). Obviously one of the many Exorcist cash-ins. Happy Gregory Peck had a late career hit, though! You made me laugh "he's got one look", ha! The whole rest of the movie, that one comment was making me laugh every time he came on screen. (Check out Peck in "Moby Dick", though. That is not the same look! Great movie)./ Yeah, I love the disclaimer you give in the beginning. Is this because you've had a-holes in the comment sections, yelling at you because you're not taking their favorite horror movie seriously enough? Oh my god. Don't change a thing, your channel is the best.

I think he does take the movies seriously (well, those that deserve it) he's witty without being condescending, unlike so many young reactors who like to s**t on the classics with their wack forced comedy routines. Constantly throwing around words like dated, cheesy, campy, slow, not scary and mocking the special effects. Uncultured swine, I tell you, all Uncultured swine.

@@blkluv100 I absolutely agree with your first part; I am not getting into some ageist whining about millennials for the second part. There are plenty of young reactors who do fantastic reactions of older films and there are some really dumb older ones. One of my favorite places on the internet is a blog about silent movies that is by a 20-something. There was as much "uncultured swine" in yesteryear as there is now. But I totally agree that our excellent friend on this channel takes the movies seriously; it's more like the people who complain about his style are the uncultured swine I tell you, all uncultured swine! :D

@@TTM9691 I said so many young reactors, not all, and didn't use the word millennial. It seems like most of the reactors, the popular ones anyway, are younger. TBR SCHMIDT and CINEMA RULES, young reactors, are some of my favorites, so I'm not biased. What I'm saying is a lot of the younger reactors don't possess the ability to contextualize older movies and are critiquing them by modern standards or just use them as backdrops for their stale comedy routines.

@@blkluv100 Sorry, when you said: "uncultured swine all", I took that to mean all young reactors, my apologies. Yes, TBR Schmitt and Cinema Rules are great, absolutely. There are lots of good ones, actually.
