Dylby H I disagree. The song really benefitted from adding a female voice and Chungha was a great choice for that role; she’s a popular artist and her tone matches super well with what Chang min was going for there.
His girlfriend is soooooo freakin lucky! And knowing Changmin's personality and taste, his girlfriend must be a fiiiiiiine woman. They must be matched by heaven. Oh my poor single soul...
"This is like a whole boy group on its own." That's what I was thinking! You don't usually hear Changmin switching things around this much in TVXQ songs, all the different vocal parts would be dispersed among several songs. I'm so glad he's doing a solo to really show us what he's made of.
That's the exact reaction I had, as well 😂 utterly speechless. You should listen to the whole album... 1. Because it's amazing... 2. Because 'Piano' has more of those sexy vocals... Literally like another man
At first i was disappointed in the chorus because of that amazing build up, but I realized it really balanced out the song’s dynamic. Really loved this song!!
You don't know how hard I held my breath while watching your reaction. He's my bias for more than 10 years and this is his first ever solo album so I was kinda nervous and wanted to know how non-fans and music experts react to this. And I'm so glad that you really appreciate his voice. It has always been incredibe. I agree that there hasn't been many songs that completely pushed his voice to his range, which is why we were kinda shocked by the beginning. I think this is exactly the side that Changmin wants to show as he always introduces this album represents the "real" him, more on the fierce and sexy side rather than the familar sweet side that we usually saw in his ballads. Of course he had sexy songs before (Heaven's Day) but this is like his official introduction to the public(?). Thank you so so much for saying he put out one of your favorite releases, it means a lot to him and to us fans as well. I hope you can check out more of his works and also TVXQ's works to see more sides of them. Once again, thank you!
i'm Changmin bias too but i also love his hyung Yunho....but i really hope that thru this album of his. He'll get the lots of fans worldwide cause his always underrated.
Going into this solo... I knew who TVXQ was but honestly I was more familiar with their Japanese work because I'm an anime fan (in fact I heard of them because of their One Piece opening). I wasn't really a fan but I could respect them for their work in K-Pop (and J-Pop). I mean there's only two of them and I couldn't have told you their names. This song made me a fan of both Changmin and TVXQ. I'm so obsessed with it. It was everything I didn't know I wanted.
It's gotta be god tier, especially since he's Max Changmin, a god rising from the east LOL But honestly, when he was asked why it took 17 years for him to release a solo (apart from the obvious reason he wanted to focus on group work with Yunho), it wasn't because he wasn't being given opportunities by the company, but because it was a personal choice. He wanted to create solo work at a time in his life when he personally felt that was ready, when he believed that his skills were good enough (ikr like??? to us he has always been beyond capable!!!) and he's comfortable enough to create music he can be proud of, and this was THE YEAR.
"He has the voice of a whole boy group." THANK YOU! I couldn't put into words exactly what it was that felt unique to me about his voice. Like sure, he's a great singer. I know several great singers in kpop. Exceptional ones that when I hear them, I know exactly who they are. But like you, I didn't pay a lot of attention to TVXQ. I knew of them, but their music style didn't really vibe with me. I listened to this song, and I was SHOOK. I had to go back through some of their songs to see if what I heard was the same person, and I realized he was there, but now in full center. And he does sound like different people! When he was singing in English, there was a different tone in his voice, then he went to his high notes that are his signature. It was like he did a collaboration, but it was really all him!
You are on point. Max is on whole another level. "God Tier" Yes, I love Max's Chocolate. *stops* ignore that innuendo. *face palms* you get what I mean. I Love the song.
When a member of a group debuts as a soloist it is to highlight their skills, however, many end up wasting that opportunity showing half of their potential, but Max... He got really proved that he is a true vocal!!

Have to be honest, when I heard the first few seconds I was confused. It was like a noir french film and I was shocked. But after a few times, I understood how amazing it was. To hear how many different ranges he does on his own. This is when creative risks truly pays off because this song is so different than the avalanche of releases these past two years.

when you said that his voice reminded you a whole boygroup on its own this is why I think they have been able to flourish as a group of two. changmin and yunho’s range, talent, and pure skills are inhuman. tvxq is truly god tier of all the industries combined.
Highly recommend the other two songs in that album: Piano and Me, myself & I! His voice is super incredible. This album really shows that he has endless possibilities.
I’m so addicted to Changmin Chocolate album. He and his team did an amazing job. All the songs are very different genre but still feeling incredible cohesive! It is definitely an album full of all Changmin difference vocal styles 🥰
PD! We are so glad you are doing the Kulture Study on Max "Chocolate" MV. We were not into old SM stuff before until we found out TVXQ "Truth" in Dec 2019. They are really the legends in KPOP. Although there're so many talented vocalists in KPOP, Changmin is the best of the best. His vocal range is so wide. His high notes could go unlimited. Changmin wrote the lyrics of this song. The song is written and arranged by Danish musician Thomas Troelsen. He also wrote another track "Piano" in Max Changmin's solo album. This is my favorite song from "Chocolate". We were wondering why "Piano" was not chosen as the title song, but after watching a few interviews and your reaction we understood "Chocolate" really "Maximize" his vocal range and singing skills. He is such one of the most underrated artists in KPOP. Thank you for giving Max Chocolate a 10 out of 10! We are a family who love KPOP and we are real Cassiopeia! We actually saw them in their Circle #with concert in Hong kong in July, 2019. Also followed them to Japan for their XV Live Tour in Fukuoka in Nov 2019. After seeing multiple KPOP groups live, we have to say TVXQ's live is the BEST! Our second generation of Cassiopeia also made a reaction video: th-cam.com/video/fEGG9fskp7w/w-d-xo.html
I'm a long-time TVXQ fan and I've been DYING for SM to give Changmin a solo album ever since he started doing solo songs during their concerts (if you haven't seen the video of him singing X-Japan's Rusty Nail live, you are missing out!) and this album was everything I could have ever asked for 11/10 ❤️

I totally agree with your overall reaction like yeah this MV is a holy crap. SM really get all the powerful vocals in kpop
Have to be honest, when I heard the first few seconds I was confused. It was like a noir french film and I was shocked. But after a few times, I understood how amazing it was. To hear how many different ranges he does on his own. This is when creative risks truly pays off because this song is so different than the avalanche of releases these past two years.
thank you on behalf of us cassiopeias! 🙏
changmin really poured his whole heart and soul making this album ❤️ it took a lot of years for this solo album came out and he did not disappoint!
his visuals, song writing, and vocals is everything 😍😍
we are so proud of you our changminnie! ❤️
this song sounds so TVXQ and so Chang Min to me, it's crazy!!! And his vocal is really on another level on this solo! I feel proud of my old kpop mates!! They are still shining through comebacks even though there is so many competitions on the market nowadays!!! ♥
Totally in love with this song. Can't wait to have the time to loop Max's album
when you said that his voice reminded you a whole boygroup on its own this is why I think they have been able to flourish as a group of two. changmin and yunho’s range, talent, and pure skills are inhuman. tvxq is truly god tier of all the industries combined.
When PD was about to take a sip of his drink then STOPPED at that intro 🙈
Discovered this amazing song after Max Changmin's "Fever" performance of SMtown 2022 online concert. This man is incredible!
