    Love this series! Good for you Sophia, you are really powering through all the little jobs that needed finishing in your home. I always find it’s the little jobs that get put off the longest from being finished. So glad you kept the little fruit paintings as they are adorable and I have always liked seeing them in your dining room. As for the clock, I think the corner in which it stands looks like it was made to house it, as the proportions look so correct. I do think it looks neater without the paintings hanging behind it too.

    Sophia- I have the same clock and over the 20 years that i have done no annual maintenance. i have never oiled the gears. When you do that task in October, could you do a video about grandfather clock maintenance. I never knew that the clock weights were different and why. Thank you for continuing to motivate all of us to tackle the little projects around our homes.

    Such a beautiful clock. I love how you explained the weights, how they work and what fingerprints will do to the brass. I need to do this to my home too. I don't like things constantly hanging over my head either. Now that it's done, you can get it out of your mind and move on to another project. I love this series!!

    Your list is getting smaller Sophia!! 😊👍 Rotate your artwork with the Seasons. It will change the look once in awhile. I did see what you meant about the different finishes...thanks for the info. I'm sure it happens more than we know. Have a fantastic week! 😊❤

    I was told never put a working Grandfather clock or a piano on an outside wall? Has anyone else heard that??

    • @mygreatchallenge
      @mygreatchallenge  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Never heard of that. Maybe because of changes in temperature but that was when houses were poorly insulated so that would make sense.

    • @osmadchlo
      @osmadchlo ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, humidity comes into play- if you have a barometer, it's instructions will say not to hang it on an outside wall.

    • @sandralynn9628
      @sandralynn9628 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I was told that years ago, but I think Sophia is right, we do have good insulation now. My own thought would be, if it is by a window with drafts, especially in the winter, it may be a good idea to not have it there by the window.

    • @williamhawthorne1375
      @williamhawthorne1375 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes,an old house that has not had the plaster work replaced and inner insulation added,will cause trouble with inner workings of both,also humidifier’s and de humidifier’s.🤷‍♀️Lizzie

      @wendajones9040 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! I should think though that it was more important in yesteryears when it was maybe draughtier. I would still however not put my piano on an outside wall!

    Our walls are plaster as well it's about 2 inches thick our ranch home was built in 1956, did you know that plaster walls are fireproof well they take longer to catch fire. Thats what we were told. Very cool, the benefits of having an older home is never ending! I think the benefits outweigh the cons!

    That’s what I was told but we have a piano and the piano man (not Billy Joel) told me that was in the days when homes had no window insulation. Our piano has been on the outside wall for almost 30 years and still looks and works beautifully. Hope this helps

    I don’t dust behind my picture as it’s heck of a job to put back in. I used to be a house cleaner and hated cleaning one house, as the woman would insist on each picture she had be dusted inside. She had a big house and loads of pictures.

    I need to do the same, not holes in the walls, but nicks and scratches. My hangup is going to the hardware store to get the paint, it has been ridiculously hot in the Phoenix, AZ, area and I'm hiding in the house with the A/C. I've never dusted the backs of my pictures, maybe I ought to take a peek and see how dusty it is back there.

      I am torn about those. It woukd be ok I suppose but they are small. I am thinking about a small area somewhere else. They actually would look better near or in the kitchen.
