I use flightnumbers as a loose guide for what the manufacturer intended the flight to be, mostly in comparison to their own line up (or to signal what kind of disc it is similar to, ”this is our destroyer” being the most common).
When you add different plastics into the mix that obviously makes it more unspecific. But it gives you a general idea, that you can apply to your own knowledge of stability differences in a manufacturers different plastics.
Any time you say Pros and Cons it should be a picture of Brodie on one side and Kon on the other
Maybe if Brodie was wearing lipstick and a mini skirt...
@@TheButlerNZwhat are you yapping about
@@oakmusiccc If Kon's the kon... Brodie must be the... one on the corner in fishnet stockings...
So many disc golf video thumbnails show someone with a surprised look on their face, but this is about the best one I've seen.
i think a fun spin on the numbers would be to do a challenge 4 discs you give the numbers of all four then the contestants have to guess from the flight which disc is what numbers
This is the kind of content we need more of please
Absolutely love kon kon. “Well my opinion was that i only care about the science” 😂 super quick and witty.
Missed opportunity to call this discbusters
Don't forget that the type of plastic will affect the flight of the same disc mold. Flight numbers may be a perfect match for Champion plastic but way off for DX plastic of the same disc.
Test one. When throwing on hyzer, you definitely add more power in your throwing style / technique
I like that you point out that Konner isn’t a ‘new’ or ‘inexperienced’ player, even though he feels like he is. There’s a big difference between ‘new’ and ‘rec level’ just like there’s a difference between ‘collegiate level’ and ‘pro’. I bet a lot of us are in a similar boat to Konner, because I certainly am!
It's finally back
Video idea: play with an eye patch over your weak side. I personally only have one eye(childhood pencil accident) and would love to see how much effect it really plays. Only thing I notice is I tend to say "get in" more frequently than the people I play with
LOVE FOUNDATION!!
I like to throw lighter weight discs on longer courses, my arm will hurt a lot towards the end of a round when most of the holes are 350+ ft if I'm throwing max weight. I've started to throw a couple of my bomber discs in lighter plastic to help offset some of that fatigue
When it comes to the weight question, watch Eagle with a 150’s Fission Fireball and it’s still beef. I think the weight issue comes to this: if you can get 165 to speed, it’s better for you than 172. If you can get 172 you may lose stability in lighter weights (disc technology and rim width adds more options with weight).
The hyzer flip versus chop anny has to do a lot with how you grip the disc and your arm angle. If you throw the same arm angle and speed a hyzer flip will go further. Flip ups stay in the air. Watching Jake Wolff throw forehand he adjusts grip so he can throw different angles with the same arm slot.
@7:27 The light discs flip more and go farther because you can throw them faster. They are flying more true to their speed because the thrower not the disc. For the majority of people lighter (within reason) is better.
Great video, always enjoy y'alls infectious energy!
Nice video! I feel like there used to be another guy though. I forgot his name at this point it's been so long. Was it Tremor?
I’m a beginner, been playing about 2 weeks and I can say definitively that I can throw farther with my mid ranges than I can with my distance drivers. I think it’s that I’m not able to get enough speed on the distance drivers as well as I have a total lack of control, causing really bad nose up shots that almost boomerang back towards me.
The flight numbers would make more sense to me if they used a more objective method of arriving at them (I am currently unaware of how they arrive at the flight numbers. They seem subjective/arbitrary because they fly differently for people). If they used a specific arm speed/rpm’s/angle of release/nose angle to arrive at them, that would make more sense to me.
As far as I know, they just have a bunch of experienced people throw them and get feedback as to what they think the flight numbers should be and they take the average.
And the tests would make more sense if they if they made any sense at all
@@feelthepayne88 I guess that would make them more accurate to more experienced players, but still very much subjective due to different variables. Thanks for the info!
You’ll need a disc launcher to get the best accuracy when comparing flights.
Yall always inspire me. You guys are the reason I’m attempting to make content myself so thank you🥹
For the light weight comparison I wish you would have added in some overmolded technology from MVP/ Axiom. I know I have some super light stuff that I can not make flip to save my life.
What i like to think about with lighter discs, is that if it takes me 100% power to flip a max weight disc, I may be able to be more precise at 85% and still get around the same distance. I throw light discs unless it's windy, or It's already a really overstable disc
Forehands are typically thrown faster with less spin compared to a backhand, which makes them more likely to "turn over" do their lack of gyroscopic stability
Those lefty throws are quite good!
That shock sensation is nerves being stretched! Careful, don't throw too hard or too many
Flight numbers are useful when comparing discs within a single brand. Between brands, I would argue that they are useful for comparing the intended slot in the bag, but flights may vary.
Regarding light weight discs, it could be that the lighter one is less stable because you can throw it faster. In other words, if you threw them with the same speed and spin, would they fly similar?
Your lefty shots: you need to repeat with the putters. Or you should have gone putter, mid, driver, and repeat 3 times. The thing is that your form got a little better the more you threw lefty, so your putter shots were disadvantaged.
Flight numbers are more consistent within same brand and are also somewhat consistent across brands there are certain molds and or plastics that the numbers are just off completely
With max weigh disc, the reason to throw them always is because if you rely on power lightweight those disc aren’t throwable in tough weather, and consistency is the key to golf
I was playing my second ever tournament last month, MA4, and a card mate did a "you should get a NICE score on this one" after my drive landed 15ft from the basket. I then 3 putted for my bogey...HAHA 😥
Gotta say that the G Star plastic on that Leopard 3 is way more understable than what the #'s give it
Man, I love to see other people try to throw with there non- dominant hands. I'm a righty, but I can't rlly throw forehand, so last fall I taught myself left hand, and now I can throw over three hundred feet
The max weight thing really came into effect when Hunter threw it all-out. He has 400ft+ power, Konner does not. Getting the disc "up to speed" is where the flight numbers tend to come in, and the weight can absolutely affect it. 12/13/14 speed discs are a LOT of disc, that tend to need 60+ mph arm speed to get flying as designed.
I'd be curious to see them using slower speed discs, like 7-9 speed where Konner can get the disc up to speed and Hunter would be over-powering the disc at a full throw.
I don’t have a problem throwing lighter weight discs, but I’ve always found that going back and forth causes me to miss my release point much more often. For example throwing a 165 disc after consistently throwing 170+ more often than not leads to a grip lock for me.
Maybe someone else commented this, but why did the cicada turn when thrown on a hyzer and not thrown flat?
does discs with some understability turn more when thrown on a hyzer angle!? have i missed something?
im a LHBH / RHFH player because of shoulder injury so this information would help my game alot!
Could be a wind or spin thing
A "myth" I argue with people about often is that discs with more dome have more lateral movement. I believe the opposite, that flat discs have more drastic left to right movements than their domey counterparts.
I think flight numbers are a good relative score for when you throw the same brand. I find most lat 64 to be good relative to other Lat64. Other than the Fury, that thing is just so understable compared to -2/2
My buddy throws forehand only, his flex will always go farther than his flip up shots by a lot
I think the difference in the distance comes in the fairway speeds up to the distant driver speeds. If you have an 8 speed arm, the 12 speed disc won't go further than the 8 speed disc. I think that's the myth that should be tested. Not necessarily in the putter and midrange speeds because even newbies will have those speeds in them.
My biggest argument about flight numbers not being accurate is look at the King and Queen from Westside. The Kings numbers compared to a destroyer. King 14/5/-1.5/3 Destroyer 12/5/-1/3. In theory the king should be more stable than a destroyer with the faster disc speed.... But the king is a hyzer flip to roller disc
Does an under stable disc turn right on its own?
@22:50 please explain! How it go through?
Backhand flex shots fly farther than hyzer flips.
Why did you guys choose a leopard3 instead of a tl which is a 7,5,-1,1?
As soon as the forehand spin one came up, I already knew it does not spin more with forehand. I haven't even finished watching this part.
The heavy vs light disc decision is also heavily due to wind break for me. It's a lot harder to throw lightweight discs consistently in basically any wind from what I have seen (at least at my lower level of play).
Maverick has almost the same flight numbers as the river but would have turned and burned so fast you could market it as a roller disc
Konner, sick lefty. "I am getting comfortable - that's dangerous"
This was a great video
Best example of the weight would be a Wraith. A lightweight Wraith is an absolute arrow, stright as can be with a gentle fade. A max weight can be fairly beefy. Brand new, of course. Tern is another good one for that experiment.
Yes, I bag a Leopard and it’s more understable than the numbers say, but that’s why I bag it but prefer a Roadrunner. I just started playing a couple years ago. I’m in my 50’s. I’m moving towards lighter discs. No shame here.
The reason your forehand flex is going farther than your flip up is due to your lack of timing and engagement of your hips in your run up, poor nose angle, disc selection, and inconsistent follow through. Slow is smooth, smooth is far then build from there. With flex shots, you're starting the flight of the disc where a flip up gets to halfway in its flight when thrown properly, whether it be backhand or forehand.
Disc battle idea. Roll three dice to get a total. You then can pick discs of your choice, but the speed ratings must add up to the total you rolled with the dice
The shock comes from not allowing your right leg to come through. Combined with lack of strength and coordination but still the same core and leg strength.
I don’t know about y’all but the “nice shot” myth makes me want to side with Brodie on the “don’t say good round until after 18s done. 🤷♂️😎🤙
1:50 Gstar makes this feel less scientific
Ya I saw that too.
While you were throwing lefty, the guy in the background teed off lefty. Shoulda had him come throw right handed 😂
with myth 1, another thing that breaks flight numbers is weight, plastic, dome, and how beat-in.
The only issue with the weight test was that it didn't seem like there was much wind to test.
wait has konner just been left handed this whole time and he’s just been throwing with the wrong hand? that would explain a whole lot tbh.
Bro Kon is HUGE! 🤯
You can bullseye your friends ankles way more consistently than parking on the pin with an upshot of the same distance...
I can bullseye my mates all day long... go to do an upshot and I donate my disk to a river etc.
I think flight matters certainly matter. To test this you get two completely opposite flight numbers right ?
Science
lol
Lightweight discs vs max weight is more deterministic based on environmental factors than anything else.
Big Kon has a better lefty form than right 😂😁
Put the light weight vs max weight discs into the wind
Why not use a TL and an FD?
Myth: if you were to smack the camera from the opposite direction at the end of the video, it would open a time loop and replay the video.
16:43 “whereas the backer a backhand gets”
Me wondering how to get my backhand more backer 🤓
Hunter throws a hyzer flip turn over. Connor: “it’s in no way flippy” … yo Conner wtf you smoking bro I want some that disc way flippy as fuck😂😂 he he threw that flat it would have been a roller like come on Conner you’re smarter then that😂
the audible snap when throwing is made from fingers leaving the disc not fingers hitting your palm.
I get snap with a 1 finger forehand that doesn't make contact with any other part of my hand.
Brodie is wrong and too much of a coward to address it
There’s a million 5-5-0-0 mids. That would’ve been more accurate for myth 1. (I agree with y’all, just a poor disc selection)
If they ever make a documentary about Hunter, Andrew Garfield should play him
Took like eight throws for me to realize you’re throwing next to Trev’s fav hole
Hahahhaa flight patterns DON’T matter….it just gives you an “idea” of how it SHOULD fly 😂. It matters on how beat in it is PLUS how you as an individual throws it 🤦♂️.
Nice! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The forehand hyzer flip will give you more distance you guys just don't have a power forehand to really fully test it. Also your disc selections probably were not the right choices either.
Myth: Flight Numbers matter
*Throws all discs and they act consistent with flight numbers as the should
Verdict: Myth busted
Numbers don’t matter even though the discs flew exactly like the numbers indicated they would.
Either you all had reached a verdict before you threw a single disc, or you threw them all and then forgot the outcome of every single throw, or
Why did you use a leopard instead of a crave???
..... nice
Lynchburg home of Jack Daniel's?
I’ve seen enough. We need a lefty 9 hole battle. Hunt, Trevdaddy, & The Conman in a left handed affair. But. You get 3 mulligans, that you are allowed to throw right handed. Who’s the most amberdexterous
Great idea
this needs to happen!
Definitely sounds like a good video
You actually learn so much from training your left hand to throw. You have to work across your brain and breakdown your form to basics. Konner's got it figured out!!
Favorite disc golf channel right here, “am I right boys?”
Yes.
I’ve consumed every Foundation video in the past two years I don’t know what I’d do without them
Ahh.. you got me. Take your like. 🤝
Hex yeah!
Nag Neptune discs got the best channel and sponsored playas
KONNER THE LEFTY??? Some serious lower body engagement in those throws, my guy! That part is always the toughest for me when I try to throw lefty.
For the "always throw max weight discs" can we revisit it during a windy day? Heavy discs are said to handle wind better then lighter discs due to needing more energy to move them. (kinda where this myth comes from) Id love to see this again but going into head winds, tail winds, left to right. and right to left. FH and BH if possible.
On the lefty throws, I feel like it's also possible that you just got better from throw 1 to throw 9.
If you throw with me you're getting "niced" all over the place, I just like watching a disc fly. Sorry friends....
i feel like for the flight number test you could have just taken the same disc in different plastics to show that they are not accurate.
Flight numbers to me are a starting point. There are so many variables. Weight, plastic type, used or new. They'll get you in the ball park.
Plus how one throws it. No one can throw a disc EXACTLY the same every time. A centimeter of change in your posture from throw to throw can even affect things.
Who you gonna call??!! Disc busters!!!
I disagree with your 'Busted' with flight numbers matter. The discs seemed to consistently prove the slight changes in numbers: the one speed faster disc didn't flip as much as the slower one, the one with more turn turned more and so on. Are flight numbers entirely correct? No. Do they matter? From your test: yes, absolutely!
Not only that, but 7 speed discs aren't meant to be ripped like a 12 speed disc. If you throw them all at a slower speed their flight paths would've been even more similar.
Love the content. Still fairly new to the game, but yall have really got me hooked with the game we all love
Flight numbers are still a good baseline even if they aren't perfect. I would hate buying discs if there weren't flight numbers. Flight characteristics can be different in the exact same plastic and mold. That doesn't mean that flight numbers don't matter.
There is a science with the weight and arm speed. A balance. Find the right balance, get the right distance.
How does hunter not have any flippy distance drivers if he literally only throws on hyzer….?
Video 45 of asking Silas for Follow Flights 🎉
Feel like the flight numbers can never be proven or disproven, until there is a standard for manufacturers to test by. Such as a robot or machine that can throw a disc consistently.
It depends on the person I think
Fact: 300 glide gets you 300ft
What plastic was that River? 👀
