It’s wonderful that you guys are enjoying this hobby together. I’ve had my MYT since 2015, and it’s been flawless-except for the mini-USB connector breaking, which SB thankfully fixed. Your newer MYT design has resolved that issue (hopefully!). With a 2794mm focal length, a 105-point model, and PEC training, the stars are round even in untracked images (I haven’t gone beyond 5 minutes yet). Yours, with encoders, will outperform mine. Wishing you many years of enjoyment with the new MYT!
No doubt this mount goes far and beyond anything we’ve ever used before. My husband definitely wanted the encoders for all the right reasons for sure! Will keep sharing as well go so stay tuned! Clear skies ✨

The mount in this video is a MYT brand mount. My husband hasn’t had it for very long but so far no complaints!! Think it’s really going to be a game changer!!

What an absolutely fantastic rig. Serious gear going on and I look forward to seeing progress. As someone else mentioned, I'm suprised it's not on a pier. I do remote imaging from a pier (cubic metre of reinforced concrete 1.5M deep) but any movement around the pier, even from a distance causes movement that can be seen on the guiding graph. I use the same guide scope btw. That mount is silky sooth 😎 I wish you clear skies and can't wait to see what that bad boy does!
Not sure if we got lucky or that concrete pad is just awesome. So far even while walking around I have seen nothing noticeable on any pictures. It is always of course possible my eyes just aren't that good.

Be sure to set the East and West limits on the MyT so there is no chance you have a the scope hit all that stuff on your portable pier. Setup T-point so it is binning 2x2 on your main imaging camera. This will greatly speed up plate solves and allow you do do more points in a lot less time. A 200 to 300 point model should be plenty and might allow you to do shorter unguided exposures. My guess 60 to 90" before elongation at that image scale. If you are guiding you don't need that many. I found a better 48 volt connector for the mount and posed about it over at Cloudy Nights and on the Bisque site. The common 5.5 x 2.5mm DC connectors I tested caused intermittent connections on the 6000 board for my MX.
Good advice on the T-point model.... that process is painfully slow.
With no limits set and running the exercise mount tool I don't come remotely close to hitting the computer, Power distribution, Step up converter, or Wireless card (all that junk you see attached to the portable pier).
I also noticed if I (spin) the dc connectors on most of the gear it will cause power outages. Without spinning them and making sure they don't get tugged on while imaging I haven't had any problems in the past couple years I have used them on different setups. That being said I will Definity check out your post on CN.
I haven’t had much of a chance to image as I am still working out the dome sync and it has been just cloudy with a giant moon. Short testing I did with my 50 point model I could image up to about 120 seconds before I saw elongation on the stars. Could be the absolute encoders helped, the 0.8 reducer changing the image scale or just lucky that one night. Either way I plan on guiding and I don’t usually take extra long images due to out horrible light pollution. It will be nice when I break it down and take it to a dark sky.

Holy crap, seriously?! That’s insane!! This is my childhood home so I’ve known most of the neighbors my whole life or most of it and they are excellent about turning the lights off for us. Also, I share all the pics we capture with them through text messages which they very much enjoy. Not sure this would be the case though with neighbors I don’t have this kind of history with. The world has become so upside down though that (if you’re not careful) kindness can get you into different kind of trouble. It’s a sad way of living for sure.
Now THAT'S a telescope :)

Great video! I have an upgraded MYT and I notice you have USB running over the ethernet connection to electronics behind the top plate. How did he build that cable? I've been planning to just run individual USB cables through the mount.
I will have to ask my hubby about that one for sure! He is unfortunately under the weather today (been coming on for a couple of days), but as soon as he is on the upswing I will be sure and pass this question along to him. We are definitely excited to see what we can see with this bad boy!
How do you guys afford such nice equipment? Already the dome and mount are crazy expensive!

What Scope is that?
It’s a 10” ritchey chretien truss scope.
A GSO (or 1 of the many OEM clones) 10" Ritchey-Chretien (RC). Well known for their very flat fields. They are notorious for being a p.i.t.a to collimate, but these latest generation RC10A models decouple the focuser from the primary mirror, so it's now much easier than the earlier versions of this scope. There is still an issue with the baffle design letting in stray light, causing glare issues. There's 3D printed parts to fix this problem.
It's a big, heavy scope at ~15kg. Observatory grade. Optical quality is apparently very good, especially for a Chinese made scope. A US or European RC 10" scope would set you back 20k USD probably (10x the cost of this RC). It'd probably be better optically too.
A special note: the default focuser that comes with this scope is particularly bad and not able to carry much weight without flexure.
Pretty much what davepastern said. This one happens to be a GSO model sold by iOptron.
I've made a few alterations to try and align the mechanical axis to the optical axis. 3d printed the nice baffle fix, and added a moonlight nighcrawler focuser to address the terrible focuser it came with.
Unlike my wife I don’t usually share many of my images as I am always tinkering with things. Overall for a cheap 3000 dollars scope I think I get some pretty decent images. I’m sure if I spent 20k on something better I would see improvement.
As for collimation… Yep! Nailed it! Not the easiest but when understood not that bad and it holds its collimation well.

Why no pier so you wouldn't have those legs sticking out to trip over?
A few different reasons but the main one is if we move, the concrete pads that the observatories were built on can easily be converted to patios or fire pits without the added eyesore of a concrete pier or giant hole in the center of them.

Meh, possibly, but honestly, other than setting up or tearing down, we’re hardly in the observatories anymore anyway. They are all remote.

Some people buy pools 🤷🏻♀️. This is our hobby, and it’s one of the most fun things we enjoy doing together. Definitely worth it to us!! 🤩 YOLO!!
