Hi Nick,John here from the UK.Love your channel, and your radio collection.i knew it wouldn’t be long before you got more satellites, they are brilliant,i have at least 6 models and they are awesome.looking forward to your next purchase to show.
@@johnturner9239 Hi John, thanks for the kind words. If all the Grundigs on their way right now (4 from Switzerland and 3 from US) run as good as this one, there will be quite the video series!
Also just a note on the Grundig TR 860 you did. It’s the same as a Yachtboy here in the uk,did you know the right hand tone knob pulls out to get better speech for news etc.
@@johnturner9239 I actually found that out after I did my video. I was watching another Grundig video of a similar, but not identical. Radio and I saw the guy pull out the tone switch. The cases of the two radios were identical, mine and his and I said maybe mine will do that. Guess what, it did! Regarding the 3400, if I find one in really really nice condition, I will buy it.
Grundig engineering spent a lot of time designing the speaker itself and the audio circuit that feeds to the speaker... Designed for both music and VOICE reproduction, hard to beat the original speaker... Now comes the 600 and 650 series... The 600 , I Believe, is the one that has the speaker cone held in place by a foam that deteriorates over time, and the speaker is then SHOT!!! I had several 600 and 650 radios that have had the speaker replaced BY ME!! But they dont have the same quality of sound as the original... Just less overall fidelity... Robert finally back to normal San Diego weather, high today of 75 deg, humidity at 39%.... 🙂
It's remarkable just how long transistors last - 60 years! Valves (tubes) on the other hand only last for a few years, 5 - 10 max. By the way, another well respected brand in about the same time period as Grundig was Hacker. They were a British company that made radios with very good technical performance although quite expensive. But I wouldn't want to set another rabbit running for you!
Nick use a good speaker with a low cut filter with the JRC, it will sound almost as good as the grundig, I received a Grundig 500, it was dead, sent it back.. matt
Dieselten 01 you do a awesome job at explaining how shortwave receivers work my friend 👏 😀 😄 👍 ❤

Speaker is paramount. The Grundig has a good one built in. The jrc s is crappy
