Victoria actually gave Velma a fake dollar. The shot goes by so quickly that it's hard to catch unless you pause it. The show actually has quite a few visual gags that go by too fast. I have no idea WHY she would give her fake money instead of just giving her real money. Or just keep driving.

YES! First, though, she must be taken up to stand before the Throne of Judgment and face the Lord God whom she so frequently mocked, belittled and denied. Her life is quickly replayed for all to see, fully revealing what an awful excuse for a human being she was and leading to all the angels booing her (Complete with one of them loudly saying "You should have listened to Fred!"). The hate for Scrappy should have ended when CN made a bumper about it. It's so annoying when a character that was respected just becomes a running joke about how everyone hates them. Either make Scrappy a well rounded character or just don't use him at all.
This whole thing gives me real "I'm Not Starfire" vibes. Like, seriously, what inspired these ideas and these horrid protags that nobody can relate to?
Because they're self insert fanfiction. The characters look like the writer, they follow the writers ideology. Both have the most popular girl in school wanting to go out with them.
@@caracal429 I was just going to say bad self insert fanfiction. But they do have similarities and Like it was mentioned in the video this series/humor seems more akin to jokes that only the friends of the writers would get.
I think the main thing with scrappy was the pairing with scooby and Shaggy. Because Shaggy and Scooby already have a great dynamic and their both cowards with Scrappy being the one who wants to fight the monster. It's to bad the rest of the gang weren't there, because Imagine daphne getting attacked and scrappy trying to save her, or velma looses her glasses and Scrappy finds them for her. But with scooby, scooby had to constantly pull scrappy away from the monster, which made scrappy feel like a burden.
Yeah, I don't think Scrappy as a concept was bad I just think the show runners should've put more effort in developing the rest of the gang, instead of axing them. I would like an to an iteration of Scooby Doo make an genuine attempt at incorporating Scrappy with the gang.
I think it's fitting that Scrappy-Doo the overhated character kills the worst version of Velma. Unfortunately, she was able to stay as a ghost after killing a victim of government experimentation.
This entire story sounds like that one South Park joke where mantees write the cutaway gags on Family Guy by picking random balls. Except here, it's how they write the entire story. I look forward to the day when the industry starts to know what the hell they're doing again.
I never had an issue with Scrappy as a kid, I tire of the Scrappy hate too. I think the media exaggerated the hate of the character too. I also hate the trope of making a so-called "hated by fans" character into a villain. (The reboot of DuckTales did that to Doofus Drake too, and I don't know anyone who hated him. So i think he's another artificially disliked character.) It'd be like pretending everyone hates Jimmy Olson and making him a villain in the next Superman reboot. It just seems stupid to me.
I think scrappy would work better if he didn't bounce off of Scooby and Shaggy. Those two are a good duo and two cowards + one who wants to fight might not have been the best way to go about it. I remember seeing scrappy in Ghoul school, where he made friends with the dragon because he wasn't afraid of it. They should've had scrappy bounce around with some of the other characters more to find a better dynamic.
I can't believe WB canceled a bunch of shows and projects but somehow allowed this show.. David Zaslav has been giving Warner a bad name and he must go. This show is so bad that this show gave Scrappy Doo justice and people now love and appreciate him.
Thought he was different when one of the first things he did as CEO was to make Batgirl a tax write off and never release it because he thought it was really bad and would hurt WB's reputation. But then he greenlights Velma?!?!?
Scrappy Doo may not have been the hero of the Scooby Doo Franchise people wanted. But he was the Hero to the Scooby Doo Franchise people needed. #PuppyPower!
The only reason I hated Scrappy was because he'd cause 90% of the problems and get away with it. He was completely un-self aware in ways that could hurt his so-called friends, that bothered me.
I got some bad news for you and all the fans of Scooby Doo out there they green let season three so that things gonna be back for at least one more year
I'm one of the folks old enough to remember the pre-Scrappy days and when they introduced Scrappy. Scrappy was a "hit" with Hanna Barberra's target - 4-year-old kids who would rather be watching SMURFS. Scooby was originally targeted at older kids (which is why the Gang are vaguely teenagers - I always thought they were 20 because they never had school or anything - and were completely disconnected from their parents), though Scooby and Shaggy were funny enough that kids of all ages enjoyed the show. Scrappy came in because H/B were specifically dumbing down the show to appeal to the under-6 crowd in an effort to pump new life into a franchise that had really run it's full course. I was NOT under six at the time and the constant STUPIDITY of Scrappy was annoying. Now, when Scooby and Shaggy did some bit, half the bit was keeping Scrappy from breaking character and ruining the bit - which ruined the bit (for everyone over the age of five). Scooby, despite the main character being a dog that could talk, was actually a pretty GROUNDED show. The "ghosts" used realistic technology and special effects to fake their hauntings. Scrappy was supposed to be a Great Dane puppy. But, unlike Scooby (or his other relatives) Scrappy could talk without sounding like a dog (and wouldn't shut up), walked upright ALL THE TIME, and was strong enough to lift cars. He added an element of un-reality to the show that really broke formula. He really messed up the dynamic of the team. You can see this because a year after they introduced Scrappy to the team, Fred and Daphne just disappeared from the show. To be fair, they stuck with Scrappy and ditched Fred and Daphne because Scrappy was testing well with their new target audience - little kids WERE watching the show, and he would become the new "normal" for four or five years. But for a lot of the old-school fans - or the ones who would become fans in the late 80s when OG Scooby series began appearing in syndication time slots before He-man or Transformers - Scrappy was generally seen as a "jump the shark" introduction that lost the magic of what made Scooby work. And that is why so much of the Scooby fanbase really don't like Scrappy much - he's an extra puzzle piece that doesn't fit - shoehorned in to try and make Scooby appeal to pre-schoolers.
I never hated Scrappy. Not even back in the day. He was a comic relief that was overused, but not a hate-worthy character. Not great, but not horrible either.
The Scrappy hate really got ridiculous, I mean the one of jokes can be funny but acting like Scooby hasn't got way worse side characters from the same era is just ridiculous. Scrappy was fine until they started running his one joke through the ground. Anyway Velma was bad and so was their scrappy but I like his voice actor would like to see him do a real Scrappy cameo once.
Top ten worst things about velma season 2. Honorable mention goes out to how at the end of the first season they had everyone simp for velma and everyone basically got over her in the first episode. So Velma and Daphne can be "Soul Mates." 1. Velma still relies on plot convenience and everyone else to do the grunt work, so she can take the credit. 2. Velma basically can be narcissistic as possible and everyone else will eventually support her. 3. The 2 detectives who kept going on about how terrible they are at their jobs. Who gave their prime suspect in season 1 the ability to prove their own innocence, ending up convicting an innocent man. Shooting the innocent man in the legs and publicly embarrassing them. Who decided to campaign for sheriff before the sheriff was found dead, not even a search party for the sheriff. They got mad that people didn't elect them for Sheriff. 4. Daphne and Velma being Soul mates. Because they really want us to support a very toxic relationship and it's really dark fanfiction to have an established character basically simp for your self insert character. 5. They keep referencing the original shaggy as a drug user. 6. The references are so vague family guy and SouthPark are facepalming. 7.Norville lost his empathy for one episode and was able to speak without a filter, lasted one episode and only served for him to insult his dad and the mailman. NO ONE ELSE. 8. They want us to hate characters that we like more then the main character. 9. IT TOOOK 7 EPISODES for the plot to actually get going. 7 episodes to establish that oh wow the killer is targeting people involved with project scooby. 10: They gave scrappy the greatest redemption ark of all time for the fans, but they brought Velma back for a Halloween special. We appreciate what scrappy was trying to do for us this whole time.
I fully agree on point 6. I'm not American but even I thought the references felt less of "pop culture jokes" and more of inside jokes that only Mindy Kaling and Charlie Grandy understand.
3:02 why would she choose to portray herself like this? Well...thats sadly Mindys real personality. Saw a random perfume ad on tv and it was Mindy Kaling and she was acting EXACTLY like how she is here. Her interviews on talk shows are exactly the same way too! Mindy Kaling herself is just an unlikable person. Ironic that she voices Disgust in inside out huh?
I've seen several people recently (recently as in the past few years) who came out to defend Scrappy, stating he was mis-blamed because of the circumstances surrounding him. Basically, he saved the show by injecting life into it with his introduction, but was shoved center stage afterwards as a main star to the point it frustrated people. Growing up, I never had a vendetta against Scrappy, but I know my dad and the general public did, so I thought I was supposed to as well (don't form opinions that way). I was born in the mid 90s, I never really had any connection to Scrappy Doo aside from 1 VHS tape of Ghoul School I haven't seen in ages. From what I saw of Scrappy prior to him being meme'd to death as the franchise's worst mistake, he's really... really not that bad. He's hyper, optimistic, and headstrong, which can easily get him in trouble, but he also works as a foil to Scooby and Shaggy. Where Scooby and Shaggy are too quick to run, Scrappy is too quick to fight, and everyone else can work as a balance between the 2. It all depends on how you go about him. Kind of a hot take, but I don't know where to take this one, so I'll leave it here. Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated is great, but here's something I pondered. Nova kinda just shows up with little explanation (not that it needs explained but still) and exists as someone that sometimes drops exposition after the coma happens. If instead of Nova, a dog with no connection to the gang that showed up randomly, was instead Scooby's nephew that's known for hyperactivity and running head-first into danger, it could have had more impact, as his tendency to try helping the gang despite his method of doing so being dangerous can easily be played for drama if he gets seriously hurt. Keep in mind, this is both a relative of the title character, and a hyperactive little kid that probably doesn't get the danger. I don't know, I feel like they're wasting opportunities by refusing to let go of the past and understand why these things happened. I'd comment on the actual Velma show itself, but I refuse to watch it on principle that hate watching will increase the odds they make another season, and I don't hate watch, I have enough to be mad about as it is.
"Why would she choose to portray herself this way"? I think this is who Mindy wants to be. It's a sociopathic fantasy. Mindy isn't evil - it's just that the humanity of her brain never grew. She is, to use an analogy, without a soul. She just has the appearance of a person, but if you could see inside, it would just be endless void. This is why she sucks the fun out of everything. She doesn't mean to. It's just that the abyss can't be completely contained while she lives, and we can only hope the tear in the fabric of reality will seal upon her death - if beings like her are capable of such a thing.
It stemmed from her childhood and teen years. See, Mindy was born to wealthy parents, meaning as a kid she was almost certainly a spoiled brat who was constantly doted on and given everything she wanted. Then, along came high school. The rotten attitude Mindy developed as a result of being so spoiled for so long meant that she had few if any friends, and that few if any of the boys she liked were even remotely interested in her. Those were probably the first times she ever heard the forbidden word "No" in her entire pampered life, so she didn't take it well. She decided that the problem wasn't with her; It MUST be with everyone else, especially boys/ men! Bitterness and hate began to take root, and things went from there.
Not only did they bring in scrappy, but also Thorn of the Hex girls. Who they made her look horrible and is the mom of the new goth character. Because of course.
I think you hit the nail on this one. It really does seem like a lot of these are In jokes that Mindy and her friends would get. Because the references are so vague I don't think looking them up would help.

@@kahboom76 I think its because they made him an annoying character who overshadowed the other characters. Plus, he just wasn't that funny. Of course, this was a time when they moved away from the Gang solving mysteries involving normal people and started dealing with actual supernatural creatures (this started in "The New Scooby-Doo Movies" a movie featuring the animated Jeannie where the villain was an actual supernatural creature).
I grew up in the 90s, and never had any problem with Scrappy. Sure he could be a bit annoying at times, but he's allowed to be, it's part of his character. How boring the world of fiction would be, if every character was a calm, collected, and reasonable person, always behaving in a stoic and polite manner.
Meme culture. That's how we got the Scrappy villain in the 2000s. It blew up till we even got it in the Mystery Inc show. In truth he was never hated like that. He was a great addition when he appeared. But he stole the spotlight and that degenerated. his best showings were the movies like Werewolf and Ghoul School. 13 ghosts did him pretty good also.
I feel like Scrappy killing people was due to that popular animation where everyone raved about Scobby being an eldritch being who wants to relive his glory days. Granted, I didn't watch the show so not sure if they did the classic yoink and twist that Hollywood do when they take ideas from others.
@@KaosNova2Scrappy Doo was a “child” when it came to his character in the original Scooby Doo. James Gunn was the one who made Scrappy a straight up villain.
Punished Venom Scrappy. A puppy without a home. Once loved, now abandoned by those he once aided. His only recourse manifesting into his own franchise as a grim memento of his legacy. Now the only one capable of destroying the grotesque caricatures his friends have become. Does Velma qualify as Scrappy getting his redemption? Or is this finally laying him to rest?
All this and my question is *If this is a prequel, like they said it was, WHY DOES IT END WITH A MAIN CHARACTER DYING* Just proves they were saying whatever came into their little blank brains without a single thought
Poor Scrapy, I already don't like what they did to him in the 2000's live-action (that movie and its sequel were hot mess) abandoning him in the middle of the road. At least this terrible so called twist made people show more love for the character. Afterall, he got us rid of Velma.
If we must say anything good about this show, at least it exposed the inner-thoughts of the Hollywood echo chamber, and how horrible they are in general.
Yeah I was never one to hate on Scrappy. And even for those who didn't like his character does any of them even liked how he was made the villain in cases like this? To be made evil cause "ha ha no one loves Scrappy". Say what you will Scrappy loves his uncle Scooby and considered him a role model. Scrappy never acted like he was better than anyone else, he just liked they idea of fighting monsters and ghosts with his hero. Which says a lot about this version of Velma who is all about herself and how she is better than all of them. If Scrappy was ever characterized like this Velma was in his original debut I could see it... but I just don't.
I remember Scrappy being a good character in Ghoul School and the Boo Brothers. I remember in that Werewolf Shaggy Movie Scrappy had almost no dialogue, it ranged from saying Hi to agreeing with what someone else just said. He could of been edited out without anything changing.
Funny how the one character we are supposed to laugh at (Fred) is the only one who has a character arc. He went from a manchild to literally standing up for himself against his mother's ghost wanting to possess him
There is no halloween special in ba sing sa But now for real my canonical ending is that our hero Scrappy killed Velma and the evil spirits already dragged Velma to hell and she'll never escape. Fred is the best character alongside Scrappy! Edit: they are the only good characters!!
Aaaaaiiiiii kinda think Warner knew that this wouldn't be taken very well given the (undeserved) hate the LAST Scooby series got (the one after Mystery Inc) and the Scoob movie tanking. This feels more along the lines that Mindy n co more than likely pushed their star power (and possibly provided them with some of the money for this. She's not hurting for cash even if she's not doing a lot right now) so all of this spells vanity to me, in more ways than one. Having said that, with the news that there is a Halloween special coming out I have a feeling that's going to be where Velma is brought back to life. The whole inclusion of the super natural is one thing since Scooby has done that in situations before where we didn't expect but granted, when that DID happen it was done so so so so so much better (Zombie Island and Witch's Ghost anyone?) but I would not at all be surprised that at the end of the Halloween special, someone else is killed to 'replace' Velma and she somehow regains a new body because her being dead and talking to the crew is stupid but also feels like another dig at some of the kid mystery shows HB had running, SPECIFICALLY the Funky Phantom. Either way, it's a skip.
The whole "2nd season" was really the second half of the first season. You see most people just watched the first episode and jumped off after that. Warner Brothers worded it in a way in the news to make people think it was gaining more views than it actually was. After people panned it, they made the other part of the season to be season 2, and used the specific worded article as well as hate watching to manipulate fans into thinking that it was them who were at fault for it happening. It shows that Warner Bros is far more evil than we all already knew they were
I think the Shaggy picture in pee joke is supposed to be a reference to the theory that Shaggy was a pot head, so a Shaggy picture appearing is a positive test. That would be funny if all the previous spitting on the original show didn't automatically make it into another pot shot
The problem with the “mysteries” in Velma is that very little actual mystery solving is done. The clue either pops out of nowhere or someone gets unmasked or a new character is introduced and they exposit a previously unestablished connection.
Grew up watching Scooby-Doo in the 90s. Never had a problem with Scrappy and I was honestly surprised finding all the Scrappy hate online in the late 00s. I was even confused when they made him the bad guy in the live action film.
I know the try to make scrappy really evil and bad because he made people uncomfortable in this but like he basically a child soldier with brain damage in this.
I doubt if it’s gonna happen, but hopefully by the end of The Halloween Special, Velma’s Ghost will be in a white woman with a surprise personality of her changing back to The Velma in which we all originally knew and love if possible.
You know you made the most hated incarnation of a character when one of the most disliked character in the entire franchise is being cheered on for killing her...
Thing is, a company like WB can cancel a completed movie or show, as a tax write off. No idea why, but they get a tax write off when they cancel something like that. For example Coyote vs. Acme, and Batgirl, both were cancelled, only for tax reasons.
I never really got the hate for Scrappy. Sure maybe he can be a bit of a liability what with breaking cover to attack the monster of the week, which of course ends up overpowering him because he’s just a puppy. I saw that as him being the only one of the Doo clan that’s bought their hype, since it’s a running joke that all of them are cowards but love bragging about how brave they are, so most likely Scooby outright lied about fighting the monsters he encountered and Scrappy bought it.
There is Scooby Dum, who is also more like Scrappy. Scrappy seems to look up to Scooby and tries to emulate the version he concocted of his uncle. Possibly stemming from his mother dumping him n Scooby's lap. This brings out Scooby's better qualities in the forefront. If you look at Scrappy like this, he is a really nice addition.
He was my favorite character. Like he was a little kid trying to have fun with his uncle. The hate was just absolute bullshit in my mind. DX If I were to remake Scrappy I'd make him a giant doberman that was ironically named that cuz he was the runt of the litter or something.

I never had an issue with Scrappy as a kid, I tire of the Scrappy hate too. I think the media exaggerated the hate of the character too. So i think he's another artificially disliked character.)
It'd be like pretending everyone hates Jimmy Olson and making him a villain in the next Superman reboot.
The only reason I hated Scrappy was because he'd cause 90% of the problems and get away with it. He was completely un-self aware in ways that could hurt his so-called friends, that bothered me.
And didn’t help that scooby doo was running on fumes at the time.
I mean, that sounds like most small dogs to me.
I never hated Scrappy. Not even back in the day. He was a comic relief that was overused, but not a hate-worthy character. Not great, but not horrible either.
Scrappy: *Kills Velma*
Everyone: Perhaps I treated you too harshly...
I feel sorry for anyone who PAYS an HBO Max subscription just to watch this “show”.

Top ten worst things about velma season 2. Honorable mention goes out to how at the end of the first season they had everyone simp for velma and everyone basically got over her in the first episode. So Velma and Daphne can be "Soul Mates."
@@TheLaurelCrown it does seem like that. Some of these jokes were more head scratchers because I had no idea who they were refering tom.
Very impressed that WB was able to make scrappy a popular character by having him Kill Velma

If we must say anything good about this show, at least it exposed the inner-thoughts of the Hollywood echo chamber, and how horrible they are in general.
I rather watch any of classic shows with scrappy doo then Velma

Final Space ended on a massive cliffhanger, yet this continues
I’d like to think that they did learn a lesson from this. Ppl liked when Scrappy killed Velma, so maybe they’ll treat Scrappy with more respect now
You know a show is terrible when people are hyped for the "protagonist" to be killed by the villian.
I’m convinced the only people watching Velma are the TH-camrs who have to review it.
We can take solace in the fact that this canonical ending of this show is Mindy self insert bastardization of Velma being murdered by Scrappy Doo
Season 2 was made at the same time as Season 1, so they were going to release it anyway.
There probably (hopefully) won't be a Season 3.
No matter how bad things are, they can ALWAYS get worse. So be thankful for what you have.
There is hate for Scrappy? Just like with SW prequels hate, I never knew it as a kid.
4:20. Wait wait wait. These characters are supposed to be minors, right?
I didn’t even know it could get worse then season one but apparently it did
He was my favorite character. Like he was a little kid trying to have fun with his uncle. The hate was just absolute bullshit in my mind. DX If I were to remake Scrappy I'd make him a giant doberman that was ironically named that cuz he was the runt of the litter or something.
Scrappy was to make the story a bit funny. I mean he wasn’t as scared as others were because he’s little.
@@KaosNova2 That's more adorable than funny in my book. :3
1 good thing about season 1: Velma gets hit by a car!
1 good thing about season 2: Velma dies!
