  • An appropriate cool down is imperative in order to:
•Aid in the dissipation of waste products - including lactic acid.
•Return muscles shortened by exercise to their normal length. Static stretches are more appropriate to the cool down as they help muscles to relax and increase their range of movement
•Reduce the level of adrenaline in the blood, allowing the heart rate to return to it's resting rate
•Prevent Blood Pooling in the limbs.

You can lie on your front and press your upper body away from the floor which will stretch your abdominals and twist slightly to strecth out your right side.

I just started Rugby at my high school in Fresno, CA (First High School in the Central Valley to have a team) and I've still got allot to learn, and cool down is a big part. It's just a 4 mile walk home from campus, is that a legitimate cool down, or do I need to get some more stances in before hand?
I have my messenger bag on and everything while I do this, so I still gotta lug around about 36 pounds. . .

hey, do you have any cool down stretches i can do for the abdominal muscles? because ever time i play i seem to be getting a really sharp pain when i sit upright about an hour after playing rugby, its usually on the right side at the top and it happens when i lean back or stand upright, im guessing this is because of the muscles becoming shorter.
    Thanks.
