  • When BMW upgraded its popular R1100S they hit it out of the park with the R1200S. Regrettably, it was only imported for one year!

I owned the R1200S and the HP2 sport simultaneously, riding them back to back I preferred the R1200S, it’s much more suited to the road, and is extremely pleasant to ride.
I still have the HP2 but sold the R12S a few years ago.I found a nice low mileage R12S last year as I really fancied getting another one, unfortunately it got sold from underneath me before I could go and see it.
I then bought an R9T racer instead to scratch that itch , which I see as the successor to the R12S in many ways, it has the same fantastic stable cornering of the R12S, but the newer twin cam engine feels superior.
On paper ther R12S has slightly more horsepower, but the R9T has even better torque so is actually faster 0-60.
Although ultimately I do love that mid to late 00’s period of BMW bikes from which the R12S originates.

A beauty! I have a 2017 R1200 RS and love it. This R1200S is amazing to look at and must be incredible to ride. Hi from Victoria BC Canada - I have subscribed.

Stunning bike , really great motor for a street bike, the seat looks like torture and for what it is the bars could be up at least three inches higher.

Thanks! It is really surprisingly comfortable. I could easily do 400 plus mile days on it.

Should i trade my Aprilia Falco for this?

Gosh, I couldn't say. They are both great bikes in their own ritght. A well set up Falco, is a joy. The BMW would be an upgrade but would probably cost double what you could get for a Falco. If it is time for a change though, I would certainly consider it. Good Luck!!

@@themaestro1881 I have my Falco running fine, but sometimes it is fun trying something else. My bike is not my partner:)

I traded my Falco for a R1200S 12 years ago. I had the Falco for nearly 10 years, had done a lot of miles on it, and was very happy with it. But I saw the R1200S in a showroom and asked for a test ride. I immediately liked the way the R1200S engine drives - it really talked to me, so I said goodbye to the Falco and hello to the BMW. Never regretted the change. The Falco was a very good, reliable bike that never let me down, but the R1200S just edges it for me, and I think it’s that engine. I also like the looks of it and its rarity (I’ve never seen another on in the flesh).
