Little Giant Xtreme Ladder System

  • Little Giant came out with a new Xtreme series ladders that range from 17 to 26 feet and are ANSI rated up to 300 pounds. This ladder is not the older heavy model from years ago, but still heavier than the other ladders that do not have adjustable legs. This ladder shines when you have an uneven work surface and need to have the legs at different heights. It also has one set of legs that can adjust from side to side for uneven work surfaces. Here again, it works, but they are only on one set of ladder legs, so working on a side slop is still not possible with the ladder perpendicular to the slope.

    I have the largest 2 of the old originals and they are heavy but I have done untold numbers of jobs easily that I'm not sure how I could have done them safely without Little Giants.
    For your tall friend, since the wheels are on the outside adjustable slide, all he has to do is extend the sliding portion a rung or two and he should be good to go.

    Easy to use. Mine has roller wheels to help moving around. Very safe.

    Hi Jon good review as always bud. I have a question for you about the quad locks on the Xtreme. I like these ladders and have always wanted one. A few years back I used my friends helping him prune his huge trees and I know he had the original and I think it was a 22 foot and while fully extended it was pretty sketchy, I am sure part of that was the tree cuz we couldn't get a very good mounting surface for the top so one of us was always at the bottom holding the ladder real tight. Fast forward to today and I was finally able to get one and I got the LT 22 foot type 1A and I was able to pick it up cuz my mom had a $140 Groupon credit she gave me and I got %10 off so I only paid like $180 and I love the rock
    locks they are awesome so are the palm hing locks. When it came and I went to register it I was looking at their other ladders and I saw they have quad locks now and they seem like they would keep the ladder stiffer cuz the 2 pin locks are kinda sketchy and the ladder will flex when it's fully extended, I don't worry that it will break but it still bothers me. I will almost always be using this ladder as an A-Frame ladder, one of the biggest reasons I got it is to use on stairs, but still I would like to get one with the quad locks. I checked on home depots website though and the cheapest one I could find with quad locks was $330. I don't know how much difference the quad locks make but to get one straight off the bat that's $150 more and then I couldn't use the $140 groupon credit so the extra $140 would have to come right out of my pocket and I don't want to pay that but I know the quad lock system would probably help with the flex. Keep in mind that I will rarely use this as an extension ladder and I do already have a large 10 foot extension ladder that extends to 17 or 18 feet I believe and at that height it comes close to reaching the very highest point on my roof or barn, however on both there are lower points I can easily get onto and then get to the top from there. So I guess what I am asking is 1 do the quad locks eliminate much flex when it's being used as an extension ladder? I will rarely use the Little Giant ladder as an extension ladder and I already have a regular extension ladder so I kinda don't think it'd be worth an extra $150 just for quad locks oh and plus the extra $140 I would have to pay out of pocket since I couldn't use the Groupon credit so that's $290 to get quad locks instead of keeping the one I got with the regular 2 pin locks. So 2 I wanted to ask you what you think about the quad locks and if it you think it would be worth so much money to get one of the ladder with them in my case? After seeing the quad locks I totally wanted one with them but I started to think about it and in my situation it doesn't see like it would be worth so much more money.

    I vote for:
    a. A wide add-on adjustable Sumo base with adjustable legs. Sort of a big H.
    b. Tape markers to indicated rung overlap.
    c. Optional rough terrain 4" or 5" wheels
    d. Add-on top pieces for tree work. A simple web belt loop on each leg with a belt..... There are other ideas.

    Good review. Where did you get the separate ratcheting leg set and how much was it?

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can buy them separate or they come with some of the ladders. As for price, it depends on the model. Anywhere from $50 to $150

    Spend a little more and get the little giant revolution the rock locks a top locks are aluminum instead of plastic, and like he said has the leg leveling

      Really only an issue if you're a professional/contractor who is going to abuse this thing on a daily basis. All the accessories you have to buy separately with the revolution add up fast.

    John, To use the little giant as scaffolding do you have to buy another piece or does it come with it.

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The two pieces will come apart and allow you to connect them together to make two a-frames them you supply the center of the scaffold.

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they have got better, but they are still very expensive and heavily advertised on TV. Dewalt and other companies make them now also.

    I'm back under 250 lbs and climbing these ladders tells me to drop down another 20 lbs in body weight. The 375 lbs versions are just asking for trouble.

    A former coworker broke both of his wrists falling from a ladder. His wife must have really loved him to wipe his butt for months. Being crippled up like that was quite debilitating.

    I'm in Sydney
    I use these TYPE of ladders all the time
    the one i use was bought at bunnings, the brand is "GORILLA"
    they basically do the same things with maybe some minor differences
    now... i just saw an AS SEEN ON TV on Ch 9 Morning show
    now let's compare apples with apples
    My ladder with all the accessories $300
    the advertised ladder which they call a TL-35 ... wait for it,
    with all accessories (same as mine) ............. $1,200
    LOL... What a fucking rip off
    the guy tried to argue Quality with me
    Bottom line is ... I'm a tradie, i know this shit i know what it can do and i know what they all are
    Example. this ladder in this video has the same locking system as my Gorilla, only that my one doesn't have the orange plastic bits. but, it's the same thing
    it extends the same way, it drops the same way
    this ladder has an integrated foot leveller, my one is at attachment, but it's the same thing
    but that as seen on tv price... fuck man... 1200 vs 300
    a person would have to be stupid to buy that
    and ... the bloke on the phone told me "sir, today we have already sold 285 of them"
    Now. it's only 11:30am and they have sold 285...........wow
    this is a scam at it's finest

    Werner and Gorilla Ladder make 375 lb units that are far better. Little Giants are over rated and over priced.
