I rode this while going on a short excursion with my college and... man, let me tell you something about this ride. This was the first ride I did that day, and afterwards, no other ride could scare me as much, cause none of them could compare to this one. When it reached the top, and I had to wait for it go down, I was already feeling nervous, but I underestimated how scary it would be. When it started to go down, I thought it would go down but move forward in a way, but, NO, it went straight down. When I felt my shoulders going down, my heart stopped and I knew I was finished. I felt a fear unlike anything I felt before, not even in my wildest imagination could I picture something so scary. I held on for dear life, it was moving so fast, I couldn't breathe for a moment. And the view, especially as it went through the tunnels, it felt like I was going back in time, like I was travelling to another dimension or different universe. This ride gave me an otherworldly experience, it's how scary it was. I never, ever, get excitement like this, so this experience was something else. I was shaking uncontrollably after it was over, I couldn't believe it. Didn't even understand how I was still alive. After this (as I mentioned this ride was the first one), I would go on to ride the Jozi Express, Anaconda, the High Flying Maverick, and the Storm chaser. All of them were scary, but none of them, made me feel what this ride made me feel. It was the closest I'd ever felt to an out of body experience and the closest I've ever been to feeling like I would die. I'd love to visit Gold Reef City again, it was the best attraction I've visited so far, and as much as this Tower of Terror scared me, I am hungry for the next time I can ride it. And yes, watching that fall from this video still makes me nervous and it makes my heart beat faster.
Wasn't this ride more intense when it was first built? I saw a video about this coaster that talked about how it was more intense when it first opened, but was too dangerous so they had to bring the intensity down to a safer level by adding trim brakes to the drop.
