Public Lecture: University of the Future (Prof. Makarand R Paranjape)

  • Are we at the brink of a new dark age or is it possible to conceive of planetary futures in which the University plays a crucial, transformative role? Not only in serving as an engine of inclusive social change or citizenship and intellectual capacity building for developing societies such as ours but as the nursery and seedbed of a new consciousness? If so, what steps can we take today to design the University of the Future?
    Speaker Bio:
    Makarand R Paranjape has been a Professor of English at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi for over twenty-two years. He also served as the Director, Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. Earlier, he taught at IIT-Delhi and the University of Hyderabad. He was educated at Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, Bangalore, St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where he got his Masters and PhD in English. A scholar-critic, poet, novelist, and public intellectual, Makarand is the author/editor of over fifty books, over 175 academic papers, and over a thousand periodical and newspaper op-eds, columns, essays, and reviews.
