I would just like to add also that another primary function of a Critical Illness Fund apart from using this lump sum amount to pay for hospital bills for the treatment of a life-threatening illness IS everything else that happens when the insured is discharged from the hospital esp if he/she is the designated breadwinner in the family. They will still need time to recover and thus cannot report for work immediately, who knows maybe in the next 1-6 months. The Critical Illness Fund or Long Term Care Fund or Accident Fund for that matter (depending on the risk that happened) are also supposed to take care of the monthly expenses at home including home care, tuition fees and allowances of kids, amortizations if any, full payment of loans if any, afford the forced early retirement, pay for all term insurance premiums so that all policies will all stay in-force and not lapse, if business owner/entrepreneur afford your business operations expenses also while you can't report for work including hiring someone who can replace your talent/contribution to your company.
