Honestly I don't understand Mendelssohn. There are beautiful moments (like this one), perfectly crafted symphonies (the 4th) ... and then monstrosities (Elijah) that make me wonder what happened to the genius who wrote the Italian.
I listened to this piece a lot after my mother died 10 months ago because it perfectly conveyed my feeling of sadness and grief. Now every time it plays on Spotify I like to think it is her way of speaking to me and saying she's watching over me.
People love to complain about the tempo at which some people play this. This is at a similar speed where people would complain about it, but it is so smooth and fluid, just like the canals in Venice... Perfect!
Jan Lisiecki is POLISH-Canadian pianist. He was born in Canada, but his parents are Polish immigrants. An artist speaks polish without any English accent, he reads books written in polish, knows very well polish culture and art. He also regularly visit Poland, where his family lives. So it's far from true to call him Canadian pianist, while it's literally true call him culturally polish.
Sherlock Holmes played it at Watson's request ! "I see that I have alluded above to his powers upon the violin. These were very remarkable, but as eccentric as all his other accomplishments. That he could play pieces, and difficult pieces, I knew well, because at my request he has played me some of _Mendelssohn’s Lieder,_ and other favourites. When left to himself, however, he would seldom produce any music or attempt any recognized air." (A Study in Scarlet)
Long live dear Jan.
The first few harmonies are so incredibly beautiful
My heart can't handle Mendelssohn... It's just too beautiful...
He counters the historical opinion that Jews have no talent but Extortion and Lying (acting). I admit Fingal's Cave is beautiful.

Me, too 💝
Thanks for this comment 🙏
I thank the people who publish the works that my piano can give me so that my friends and relatives can hear them.

Accurate and incredibly beautiful
I love this interpretation
Stunning performance. I am learning this piece and love playing it. The textures, harmonies, and atmosphere are gorgeous and so enchanting. 💛
This the best version. I love the high quality audio and the smoothness of the playing, well done!
I think the another version is lovely too.
Also Alessio Bax plays it beautifully
Cleansed my ears , touched my heart, soothed my soul❤❤
This is so dark and magical!! I felt as if I was transported into one of my books. Best interpretation I’ve heard!
He plays with such depth and feeling

I feel I'm in paradise.
Just beautiful.. Elegant
Just one word: WOW

great, great, great !!
Wunderschön!
Mind blowing!!!! Thank you!!

Beautiful but too fast !
I agree. A beautiful interpretation but I prefer it a bit slower. I find that with many pieces even though I seem to be in the minority.
I agree, too fast 😅
This man is a very fine, perhaps great pianist. But in this particular performance, he would benefit from slowing down a bit. Awfully rushed.
It was played too fast in my opinion 😅
How to play this piece without feeling.
It's like he hates every note and wants to get through it as quickly as possible.
No the tempo is perfect not too slow, not to fast
I agree 😆
I don’t like his interpretation
Gracias
If Justin Bieber was a classical pianist...
I wonder if DG signed him on because he's so handsome!
