    great build. I like that you made it the way the film makers would have. with stuff that was sitting around and works.

    I suspect that used to be a hedge trimmer. Missing the blade, of coarse.

    Cool build! Not screen accurate ofc but thats fun, hey can be different models in the Alien universe.
    I saw there are small videoplayera with built in screens on amazon that can fit in the viewfinder and that can play a videoloop of the motiontracking.

    The props from the 1986 Aliens movie are some of our favorite in film. We had a blast building our own inspired version of the classic Aliens Motion Tracker. Have any of you built your own custom props or replicas from films? If so comment and provide links to them below, we would love to see them!!!

    I think the thing you found in your grandfather's shed. I think it might have been an old school hedge clipper. Like from the late 70s early 80s. But either way AWESOME build man! I've been a special effects artist for about 15 years. I even watch your videos to get some ideas and learn new things. Love your work man.

    Hi! I found this video through the Replica Prop Forum and just want to say great job! I think the Tracker looks great and this video is really well done. If I had any criticism's it would be that the narration felt a bit stiff or rehearsed. Judging by the intro (great) I think the videos would benefit from you talking as you are building a bit more, it would allow you to be more relaxed and passionate about what you are doing at that exact moment. Then come back and fill in the blanks later, and don't worry about cutaways to stuff like Bob Ross! I think your camerawork is gorgeous and perfectly shows everything you are doing clearly!
    As for the content itself, it's great and fascinating seeing props come together like this from random junk you had lying around! The little touches you made really brought the whole thing together. You gained a subscriber today, keep up the good work!

  • @Lordmaniax357

    90% sure the tool you salvaged is an old hedge trimmer... the blade looked like it an psychotic cross between a reciprocating electric carving knife and a double edged bow saw blade.

    • @TheSmugglersRoom
      @TheSmugglersRoom  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can absolutely purchase a slide viewer. There are several different manufactures of these both vintage and current models you can still find. Here is a link of a Google Search that I did, and you will see at the top there are slide viewers priced as little as $22.
      www.google.com/search?q=LED+lighted+illuminated+slide+viewer&oq=LED+lighted+illuminated+slide+viewer&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60.6203j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
      I hope this helps with your question.

    I used the top screen of a broken Nintendo DS for the display.
    Now....should finding a broken DS be tricky, use self laminating sheets. They have 2 parts.
    1.Thin tape-like film
    2. More harder plastic.
    Dollar store carries them.

    • @TheSmugglersRoom
      @TheSmugglersRoom  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      DwayneHicks426 oh YES!!! That’s a great idea. Thank you. The one I made for this fell apart pretty easily as of late, so I’d love to put something like your recommendation in place. Thanks for the tip and for watching!!!

      @@TheSmugglersRoom one more thing, I added a bike light that had a strobing feature. It blinked a lil too fast.
      They sell battery powered strobe lights at halloween and party stores.
      The strobe speed can be adjusted manually with a crank.
      The housing you have should be bigger enough to install or re-engineer.

    • @TheSmugglersRoom
      @TheSmugglersRoom  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DwayneHicks426 that’s also a fantastic addition. Sounds like I need to spend some time upgrading this bad boy. Thanks again!

    • @TheSmugglersRoom
      @TheSmugglersRoom  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. So you don't think of a 3D printer as another tool huh? The goal here wasn't to just "print" the entire project, but to use found parts and tools at our disposal to create a cool prop. The 3D printer in our shop is similar to other tools for us. Try not to limit your thinking, you'll find that there are so many ways to create!
