      This was the difference.
I do think Baylor playing a 8 to 10 man rotation helped their freshness. Zags play 6 to 7 guys the entire game!!
KISPERT had open looks all tournament and he didn't deliver that happens with even the best 3 point shooters.
Baylor was lights out from 3!!
This has a demoralizing effect on a team.
Suggs was the first 5 STAR ZAGS recruit in this small school of 5000 students. Next year we get 2 more 5 STAR RECRUITS coming.
Zags Will eventually get their title...
Lets remember John Stockton gave ZAGS a little mention but they were UNKNOWN TINY UNIVERSITY in Spokane, WA.
      THEY WILL GET THERE.
ADD SABONIS AND JACK COLLINS to the Zags team with a 21 year old Johnathon Williams. Imagine that...

When high rated Bluebloods get beat badly, no one says they were overrated. In 2008, UNC was the overall #1 seed in a year when all #1 seeds made it and were great clubs. When Kansas curbstomped them in the semifinals, nobody questioned if they were overrated or didnt belong. UNC came back and won the title the next season. Same year, Memphis beat a UCLA team by 18 that had Kevin Love, Russel Westbrook and Darren Collison. Nobody said UCLA was overrated. That Memphis team was very similar to Gonzaga in terms of playing in a weak league but playing a monster non-conference schedule. Had they lost badly to Kansas, the overrated talk would start
The narrative anytime a non power 5 school has a really bad game in the tournament is the exact same. Their conference doesnt prepare them... they are overrated etc etc... its a stupid argument. Great teams get beat and anything can happen in a one game scenario

@@chrisuncleahmad789 The refs let any team that wants to play rugby play rugby. This is the way the game has evolved. IMO, the game was not broken in the 70's when they didn't allow all the hand-checking, riding and pinballing of drivers and cutters. If you put your hands or body on someone outside of the low post area, you expected a foul to be called. However, the networks thought it was broken. Perhaps the ratings were down. They wanted to see slam dunks and threes, not games interrupted by foul calls and free throws. One downside of putting more discretion in the hands of officials to decide when it's a "no call" and when it isn't, is that you have a recipe for a double standard when one team plays more physically than the other. You also give the refs a way to determine the outcome by design, if that's what they want to do. They can call everything close on one end and loose on the other.
To me, the game would be better and fairer if they called all those "nickel and dimers". Players and coaches would have to adjust, and they would or else it would become a FT shooting contest with starters fouling out right and left. I don't see it happening, however.

Gonzaga is a legitimately good team. I think what hurt them the most was playing in the WCC. It is not the same as playing in a P5 conference like the ACC, BIG, Big12 or others. You have to be on your game every night in those leagues or you will get beat. In the WCC, 3/4 of the teams are weak and you can cruise through most of the conference schedule. It hurts a team like Gonzaga in keeping sharp.

If you take into consideration what Vitale says right here @6:40 then the answer is yes...Gonzaga was overrated. Saying overrated isn’t saying they weren’t a great team, they just wasn’t the best team.
Being undefeated (while playing well) will give that appearance, but their record was taking away spotlight from how good Baylor actually was.
I felt all along if Baylor played Gonzaga, they would beat them down like that because of the makeup of their team physically.
IMO Suggs is the only player that would compete for a starting job on Baylor’s team. They weren’t worn down from that UCLA game, their weaknesses were just exposed. That’s all.

It was like a basketball team built like a football team versus a finesse basketball team. They had them wide bodies strength how do you give up eight offensive rebounds to one man like he was Dennis Rodman out there just with broad shoulders and brute strength so even if they missed they got the rebound but what do people aren't understanding too is the quickness and foot speed there was a big difference in foot speed and quickness. And by the time Suggs and the boys got their feet they're already down 15 so it was a wrap by the end of the first half. Even though they got it to 10 Baylor was never going to let them get closer than that and then they had those three guards that can take you off the dribble at the same time and shoot from deep there was no answer whatever the zags did they had an answer for Timmy and the boys. They even try to go to zone and then they were still wetting them from deep. Honestly believe and what Shannon Sharpe was saying the other day when he said that I think this team if they played each other five times I can't see the zag is winning more than one game. It's just a bad matchup they don't have the quickness they don't have the strength they don't have the speed. Last night I think Bailey would have beat anybody hands down the physicality the hunger they were going after every loose ball came up Baylor ball

Hindsight is 20/20 and it's easy to be a Monday Morning Quarterback. No, Baylor did not deserve to be ranked number one during the season. They lost two games and they struggled in some others (against non-tourney teams). Gonzaga, meanwhile, did nothing to justify dropping them from the #1 spot throughout the season. Every win except one (West Virginia) was by double digits!
But in the end, Baylor proved to be the strongest team and the last one standing. That's how it goes in college hoops, and that's why we love it.

In the final, from the start, when Baylor came down and got 3 offensive rebounds before scoring, that was a shock. Then Suggs goes out with two fouls. They lose confidence.
