If you followed my Korean dad's example, just lean over your food and shovel it in quickly without talking, and then tell me all the ways I disappoint him when you're done.

Veteran Korean here (I am actually Korean born in Korea who now lives in the US).
The Soju @1:14 that particular brand uses potatoes to ferment and make alcohol not rice. Actually most cheaper Soju brands do not use rice as it is more expensive. But traditionally Soju were made from rice.
Other than that... everything was pretty spot on. I was really impressed at putting meat on top of the veggie so they don't overcook! You know your KBBQ.

You just put it on the hot stone and flip it til it cooks. You then can dip the meat in sauce, put the meat inside a piece of lettuce, and add whatever toppings are available. It’s so delicious.👍🏻

as a fellow latino i always bring my coworkers and friends (of all races) out to eat and they LOVE it. Just tell your friends it's like a buffet of steak/meat that is a flat price and you can drink (though that's per bottle). At first people aren't sure about it but once you go with some people they instantly love the experience and tell other people about it. Before you know it you start a tradition me and my coworkers go AT LEAST once a month.. and yes we go to karaoke after sometimes to drink and sing if we aren't too full haha

Generally, salt meat doesn't wrap. Just eat meat with salt or oil. korean usually use ssamjang or red pepper paste to make ssam.
If you put side dishes in a wrap, you don't put chili-bean paste sauce in (or put in a little). Because it's salty.
And if vegetables are big enough to eat at a mouthful, cut them and make small wrap.
Ssam(wrap) is delicious because all the flavors are in harmony with one bite. That's why we want you to eat it in one bite sized pieces. Don't make it big. hard to cut it.
There's no way to wrap it up, but don't pretend it's weird.
I am sorry if I am offended because I am not good at English.

Great guide for beginners. Just a couple of things I should point out: 1) Soju isn't a rice-based alcohol. It used to be in the past, but modern soju is usually made from sweet potatoes or tapioca. Rice soju still exists, but the cheap and mass-produced ones you usually find in KBBQ places are definitely not the case. 2) Cheers in Korean may sound like "kombe" but it's actually "konbe."

    • @___JJuiceKiki
      @___JJuiceKiki ปีที่แล้ว +4

"건배" are the Korean expression for cheers.
The correct pronunciation is closer to "gunbae" than "konbe"

When many foreigners experience Korean Ssam, it is similar to taco, so they take a few bites as if eating a taco. However, the way to eat Ssam is to eat it in one bite, so it is true that Koreans feel very regrettable whenever they see foreigners eating Ssam like a taco.

kounbe means dry your glass or empty your glass... also, many korean use a word 위하여(wi-ha-yo) this means (for ~)
in many situation for health , for success , for family ... etc. so, many korean shorten that just say "wi-ha-yo"

And that "anchovie sauce" is more commonly known as soy sauce. Typically, nengmyeun is eaten in the winter in Korea. I personally LOVE & CRAVE it in the summer. Now I'm hungry, gah!

Luna Kelly Traditional Korean cuisine does not use fish sauce. We use brined shrimp (NOT paste), called saeu-jeot 새우젓. Fish sauce is more typically used by South East Asians, like the Vietnamese, Laotian, Cambodian, Thai & Malaysian/Indonesian. Also, soy sauce is made from fermented anchovies.

Joyce Malone thanks for all that info. But Anchovy sauce is still not soy sauce.

Luna Kelly If you look at the ingredients, most soy sauce includes anchovies, which is why most Vegans will not eat an off the shelf soy sauce. BTW, anchovies are also in Worcestershire sauce! When Koreans want an anchovy flavor... we use dried anchovies. Mmm.

Joyce Malone where in the world would you get soy sauce with anchovies? I've used different brands of soy sauce, from the cheapest to the most expensive, and I have never came across soy sauce with anchovies.
Also, we're talking about anchovy and soy sauce, not worcestershire sauce.

I'm going tonight in Tamarac, FL, for my first experience with this type of eating.
I honestly thought the lettuce thing was a joke.
I hope they have french fries.

She ruined it with the alcohol consumption, I regret not watching this before showing this to my 10 year old son before we went. I take all accountability as a parent but I just want to add that the alcohol has nutritional benefit at all 👐✨✨✨✨Thanks for the tips✌️

Something must be wrong with the K-BBQ place I went to cuz they did not serve lettuce wraps, or is it actually not that common?
