  • This Cobus reaction is genuinely my first time ever seeing them perform on the drums as well as my first time seeing their "Larger Than Life" by Backstreet Boys drum cover playthrough. Such a clean performance with some excellent drum fills and showmanship dotted throughout. Very nice indeed.
    0:00 Intro
    0:30 Start of song
    4:35 Summary
When I do my reaction videos I don't press pause because I don't want to interrupt the natural flow of the music as it was originally intended by the artist. I try to vocalise my thoughts in real time as I listen to the song, and then summarise my reaction afterwards.
You can checkout the artist's original track without my commentary here: • Cobus - Backstreet Boy...

Please do recommend songs or other artists for me to checkout in future by commenting on this video! I'm constantly on the lookout for great new music and things I've never heard before.

It's interesting to see the way Cobus made on TH-cam. He's the very first "TH-cam-Drummer" I started watching 15 years ago.
The fact that he is self-taught is just mindblowing.
He is just such an awesome drummer. His playing is gorgeous, all his '"signature" things like the "upstroke cymbal hits" and his foot technique and stuff like that.
You definitly should check out his cover of NSYNC "It's Gonna Be Me" and also his new covers. His sound is phenomenal.

Oooo, stick-flipping is my guilty pleasure, lol. After The Mad Drummer sent me (and I believe most of us) down the cringe abyss I'm always petrified when a drummer begins flippin'. This guy had some of Steve Moores antics, but pulled it off expertly. Btw, I love Steve Moore. He's an excellent drummer. I guess he was just at the wrong gig, after all. :)

The best drummer in my view was the late John Blackwell that played for Prince ....His hand and feetspeed was insane !!!!..
He did on a much smaller kit what other guys (like this guy ) is doing on a larger kit...
But make no mistake , Cobus is exellent👌

Don't get me wrong, this dude isn't on the same planet as Larnell. He's showy at times which is cheesy AF but it makes me giggle. I do enjoy his precision and speed though and love his tones. How much of that is post is beyond me but enjoyable to my ears nonetheless.
disclaimer: NOT a Backstreet Boys fan...lol.
If you've never listened to Jonatan "Sugar Foot" Moffett, you should. He was Michael Jackson's touring drummer and is local to me in New Orleans. Give him a listen one day. And thx for doing this one. Enjoy your technical knowledge of the techniques.

Not for a reaction but just your curiosity...th-cam.com/video/VTLwUGtCt5I/w-d-xo.html. He does a really cool choke on two cymbals that are behind him and obviously never loses time.

That Jonatan "Sugar Foot" Moffett you mentioned even left a comment on Cobus' videos to appreciate Cobus' work, like a human being and yeah also mr. Morffet himself is friend with Cobus..but here you are trying be the all knowing douch saying cheesy and showy when the guy you look up to is cool with him, like dude..he did it for TH-cam like ofc he will be showing off like everyone else.. it's so ironic lol
