  • I have a lot of books on my TBR, and I want to read them all! My goals for this year are to reduce my TBR as much as possible, to read books closer to the time of purchase, and to read all of my birthday books by the end of the year. I think I can complete this reading challenge! How many books do you have on your TBR? Are you trying to reach Zero?

been trying to watch more of these videos to help make realistic goals to reduce my tbr. i like your idea of not trying to reduce your tbr to zero. i love having multiple books i could read at one moment in case i get bored. im close to having 130 unread books on my tbr and i definitety plan to reduce that further.

Love these kinds of videos. I currently have 48 books on my TBR, 16 e-books and 24 physical books. I want to reduce my e-book TBR to zero and keep my physical TBR around 10. I have the greatest library and use it all the time, I feel bad using it when I have so many unread books at home. Still, I want to be able to buy second hand books, so 10 is a good number for me. I want my e-book TBR to be zero because I want to only buy books there if I read them immediately.

Attempting to reduce a TBR is certainly a challenge. I have so many unread books, couldn't say how many as most are packed away but I know it's quite a bit (probably at least 300). I would like to reduce my physical unread books though I also don't want to restrict myself and am not looking to have a zero TBR so my loose goal is to read at least 100 of them and go from there. I also have Kingdom of the Wicked and Son of the Storm. I read Caliban's War which I enjoyed and am now up to Abaddon's Gate. I am looking forward to seeing how it goes for you and hope you have lots of fun along the way.

It's great you are continuously working to diminish your TBR work! It's amazing you just try and read as much as you can! I hope you can make it work since you honestly read like a madlad, just reading so much xD Being distracted is okay, it's a hobby not a work c: But I definitely admire your passion!
I'm also still working on getting mine down but as much as I read, I only manage about a book a week/10 days. But still reading and enjoying it loads c: Been finally getting into some newer reads and it's great to catch up to books that are more modern

Looking forward to seeing the updates on your zero TBR challenge throughout the year, Amber. I have about 40 or so books on my physical TBR. I keep reading books exclusively from my library though so that number isn't going down! Haha ☺

I'm not trying to get to zero (although I actually did that not too long ago), just trying to keep it manageable! I just tried to read a book a week from my TBR until they were gone! Some that I kind of lost interest in I picked up as audiobooks. I end up unhauling pretty much everything that doesn't get 5 stars so I like to not accumulate toooo much

I think having an Excel spreadsheet so far this year with a monthly breakdown of how many books I'm bringing in (and where they're coming from) has been SUPER helpful. I still have a problem with bringing in books, but at least I'm more aware of it lol. Ooh yes, I'm also wanting to read all books that I've gotten as gifts ASAP. It's tough because I do want to read the new books, but I also want to go through some of the ones I've had on my TBR shelf for a while (kinda like what I've been doing lately). I might try out alternating books in some way to make progress on both! I think my total TBR is creeping up to almost 900, oops, but it's 430 ish maybe for the physical books.

Excel spreadsheets are THE BEST for this. I'm jealous that you have moving as an excuse to try out old books and maybe unhaul some. I need an excuse to get me moving haha. 430 isn't *that* bad, really.

Great goals! I'm doing something similar but much less ambitious haha, I want to end the year with less books on my TBR as what I started with. So far I'm not doing good (but to be fair that's because I got a lot of books from a friend who was doing a big clean of her house, I did read more books than I bought myself in January so hooray!)

Hey Amber, How's it going? I don't know if I mentioned but I'm doing "Boook Buying Ban" since december 27. Since the start of the year I read 10 physical books from my TBR Shelves and One of my new favorites was one that I had since 2018 unread.... It is good to discover those kind of things! I had 5 books coming in my shelves: one I had preordered and 4 from a book exchange service, I had saved some credits. I almost regret getting those... I'll try not to add anything else at least untill may. But let's se how we go... Good Luck! (45 days "clean" from buying books).

Good luck with that 316 😅 My physical TBR has been around 45/50 for the last few years, so compared to most people in the community it’s very low, and I’m good with this number.
I indeed also want to read 75% of my 2022 hauls this year, and for the others I have a little TBR jar with my current physical TBR books, to get to the ones I keep forgetting to read.

I'm back up to 317 this month, fmllllll. At least I was, but I just finished two books so... I'm bringing it back :D 50ish is a very good number! I'm a little jealous.

I think my physical tbr is 30-40 books

I'm close to the end of my zero TBR journey. I had the goal of reading all my 2021 books in 2021 and failed because of the end of the year so I think 75% is a nice goal. I also restricted my book buying by introducing a buying system. Basically every TBR book I finished earned me credits that I could then save up in order to purchase books. That helped ensure that I was more conscious about what I bought and gave me an extra push to tackle certain books to get that credit up. (I also awarded higher credits to certain books as an incentive to tackle those books). Good luck with your TBR. Just keep chipping away at and you'll get there

I'm so impressed that you're almost done! I've done terribly in the last month or so but I'm hoping to pull it back this month and hopefully reduce my TBR by another 20 or so books (by reading, unhauling, and DNFing if I'm no longer interested). Earning credits is such a good way to keep yourself motivated!

@@BooksofAmber there are always ups and downs along the way. It's natural to have a bit of an off month every now and again. Hoping you'll get to do some damage control this month 😉

My personal rule is that a book can only be on my TBR until the end of the next year, I.e. books bought in 2021 have to be read by the end of 2022. That way I don’t end up hording books I am no longer interested in. My TBR is also only around 40 - 50 books tho, so that’s a lot easier to do for me.

Maybe you could try something like reading your 20 oldest books every year or something like that
