Pretty bad when a tutorial is more informative and more helpful than Purdue University Professors. Amazing video dude. Way more helpful than my prof.

Hello, I know you probably won't ever see this comment but just know I'm very thankful that people like you make Linux such an open community for new users like me. This video helped me so much, before watching this, the terminal seemed like a bunch of gibberish, now I understand way more. Thank you.

Another nice command for searching packages is *apt-cache search -n * and I think *apt-cache policy * is a useful command to check the __ version currently installed on our system.

    - Update the list of available packages and versions (it's recommended to run this before other `apt` commands):
    sudo apt update
    - Search for a given package:
    apt search package
    - Show information for a package:
    apt show package
    - Install a package, or update it to the latest available version:
    sudo apt install package
    - Remove a package (using `purge` instead also removes its configuration files):
    sudo apt remove package
    - Upgrade all installed packages to their newest available versions:
    sudo apt upgrade
    - List all packages:
    apt list
    - List installed packages:
    apt list --installed

Mr. Jay, are we going to get a video on how to install the codecs for multimedia in a freshly installed Debian 10 on a PC? I would appreciate that very much.

When you ran autoremove it showed there were seven packages to be removed yet only six were removed after the program finished. There was a warning in yellow letters (13:42) stating that one package was not removed (apache2-bin) because it was not empty. I was surprised you did not make any comment about that.

Yes, it complained about a directory not being empty, and therefore not removed. I expected him to peek into that directory, to determine whether or not manual removal is warranted, and to discover why whatever was there was there.

Do various package managers peacefully co-exist?
For example, if you use a GUI based package manager to perform a task, and later use the "apt" command, will "apt" see, or be aware of, whatever the GUI did?
Can you safely use "apt" one day, and Synaptic, etc, the next day, and switch back and forth?
Not that I am looking to do that. But it is good to know whether or not these various package managers share a common library or something else so that they do not conflict with each other.

Let's say we created a package for Linux in Python. Are we able to publish on apt package manager? can we upload it to apt?

quick question.... sudo apt install clamtk does not work on my Sparky Linux xfce rolling install.... terminal gives me the following notification: Package clamtk is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
What am I to do? Please?

This video sums up why linux will never be mainstream. At 40 seconds you jump to a black screen. I have no idea how to even get there. Not for beginners. You presume I know what you're talking about. Useless for me.

    • @crisvis8905
      @crisvis8905 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This is the 11th video in a series. If you started from the first video you'd know the "black screen" is the terminal.
