  • This is a project me and my father have been working on over the summer. It turned out perfectly.
    There are literally dozens of different options when it comes to building geodomes.
    Our measurements were automatically made by acidome.ru, which offers a 3D view of the chosen GEODOME all together with measurements and even costs!

    I built a dome-like this, the same frequency at five eights in size back in 1976 out of steel tubes, color-coded out of half-inch steel tubing. For your information, if you hang a plastic-type dish inside the dome with a little water in it suspended from the ceiling your dome will cool down, a natural air-conditioning but it must be 5/8 frequency or more to accomplish this. You did an excellent job.

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      First of all, thank you ! The plastic cloth did not hold up well and we were aware of that from the start. Our plan was to have it as a contemporary solution until we get plexiglass, which is basically hard plastic that has many features of glass material.

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Dragos. Yes. We used an online webpage which calculates the exact angles of planks based on how complex the build really is. It was as easy as just following the guide.
      You enter the wanted values, website calculates the result and gives a 3D model of the geodesic dome.
      You will also get full guide on assembly + all the required lengths of different planks. Really an unbelievable webpage.

    • @dragosr6074
      @dragosr6074 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ You are probably talking about acidome.ru.I know the website,is very cool.In your project you cutted along the long side of your planks before start filming,right?Because there are no image of you cutting at a table saw (for "ripping" the planks-cutting them along the long side)

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My father did most of the technical work so I really can't explain the procedure that well. All I know is that we prepared all the planks first, then assembled them into different parts and then assembled the whole thing. If you look at the start of the video, you can clearly see my dad cutting the planks on this table with different angles.

    Could you comment on how you determined the angles on the miter cuts?

    • @fitzgod
      @fitzgod 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly, I been wondering what are the angled cut degrees to make geodesic dome. I want to check my deductive reasoning solution, that is if a 3/8 or 5/8 dome or 3/8 of a 360° circle then divide the desired radius by layers. Let's say if 220°/10 layers = 22° so an 11° angle cut on both ends each layer. One may have to do a one dimensional layout to get the arch layer number and length of each cut before the math. I seen a dome built using straight linear layers in a Canadian university dome strength test, a video in Utube. I ripped that for the reference.
