Brilliant - watched it three times so far. Took much inspiration from it. I'm building a board from Irish stones hand picked and hand cut (with angle grinder) I had come to a dead end until I saw your video now I am full of ideas and hope. Thank you.
That is great, the board with the colored epoxy and the marble looks fantastic! To help better hide the plywood back, cutting the plywood to a slightly smaller footprint and using the black marble to band it around the plywood and board might be a possible solution.
Thanks man, about that ply your words have some weight, now I think I definitely need to make it slightly undersized. When I made the player I pay attention towards your idea.
Insanely good work for amount of tools used... I wanted to make a board like this one but didn't have tools that many other channels had but then I saw your video and it looks possible now! Nice job.
Hahaha... thanks buddy for the nice comment, definitely you need some tools to build something but more than that you have to believe in yourself that you can. Good luck:)
it's awesome. Only thing I don't like about it is that it has resin between the stone. You could try precision fitting it and using resin on the backside to glue it into a premade wood fitting or something.
Thanks buddy and yeah I completely agree with you about resin work, at first I thought that the glow in dark pigment glows and give some colour to it but it didn't happen and it's difficult to go back and do the gluing again. Although the pieces are close precise enough to give a clean look but to bring the uniqueness I guess I screwed a little.
Hello, I love this! I have some leftover granite tiles as well and I wanted to do the same thing, so I got on TH-cam to see if anyone else had done it, and I'm glad I did! What I would like to know more about is the polishing step going from the 60 grit you said you started with to the final polish. Do you know what grit it was sanded to, then what grit it was polished to? I bought some diamond pads for an angle grinder when I thought I was going to do my own counters, but didn't do that, so I do have those. Also, how much was that CNC machine? An info on that? I thought I had this project in the bag until you went there, then I realized how you made it so beautiful in the thumbnail. I can cut the stones, but I won't be able to machine the letter/numbers like you did, but I would still at least like to know about the polishing, if you have time. Or another video? Thanks! Got a subscriber.
Thanks for your generous words brother. So polishing stone is definitely a time consuming task. For this perticular board I go upto 2500 grit. Although there are wheel available upto 15000 grit but 2500 is more than sufficient. From there after I use 3M buffing compound and use some soapy water to kept the surface wet and use orbital sander to buff the surface. For this small size even that took around 7 hrs of work. That machine I built my own quite a while ago. Now it's converted into 3 in 1 3d printer. As far as letters are concerned you can 3d print them with water soluble filament and put them in resin. Once resin is cured dip it into water so that those letters dissolved in water. And then refill them with some other resin. Hope it helps. If you have any other question feel free to ask
@@victormcrae955 I am not aware which companies best in your area, but I recommend you to use epoxy which cures slowly, like 24-30 hr curing time. Those epoxy provide much strength in work like these. Buy never ever use poliester resin. Good luck
Great build. The CNC in the epoxy took a nice board to a great one. I would try to repeat that, except I don’t trust myself enough to not screw up the hours I already have in the board. Are you making pieces as well?
At the that time I mixed up 10 kg of epoxy in wood and decided to make the pieces but due to lack of lathe the project is still pending. I made one piece in one day but it's not seems to economic so I gave up that plan. Let's see when they are going to be constructed, but thanks for the words, I appreciate your feedback.
Once I have a lathe only then those pieces are going to build. I made a temporary lath but in four hours only able to build one piece which I think you notice in the video. But can do that for 31 pieces , so hona wait for that.
Thanks mate, well that's not difficult at all. If you have different thicknesses then made it upside down and then pour the resin, by doing that, the side facing downward will be the top side. Make sure while doing this place plastic sheet underneath so that it will not stick permanently to the mould surface. If didn't clear then contact me via Facebook.
Great job however squares are incorrectly labelled. Position A1 for one player is H8 for the other. The alphabet should run in reverse on one side as well as numbers ascending on one side and opposite side descending. Hope this helps for future projects.
Not true! In modern algebraic chess notation A1 is A1 for both players. In descriptive chess notation, where squares have names such as "kings bishop 3," every square had two names, one from white's perspective and one from blacks.
Thankyou brother glad that you like it. The board is quite large in size that why i decided not to sell it. It's pretty heavy as well, but i planned to build a new version with black and white granite, little bit smaller in size, might be that i wanted to sell.
Yes I can but being an international shipping and the amount of weight these things have it cost you alot. If you are ready to pay then I have no problem.
That background music is really anoying. Normally, I would like the video. But with that music, I just can't. Nice chessboard though. It looks amazing.
Wow! That's amazing! I've always wanted to make a chess board. I've just recently started experimenting with stone. I'm mainly a wood worker. If you had the time to check out my channel and give your opinion I would be really grateful :)

Perfect project! But I believe the code you have post is incomplete. Can u fix that?
What were the final dimensions of the board. I just got a diamond blades wet saw and am excited to try a project like this.
How may I help you

I have some scrap pieces of granite that I want to do this with. What are the sizes of the squares and overall dimensions when finished?
Dear the square size is 3" and overall dimensions is 30"X 30".

Just wondering what kind of epoxy you use & where to get it (I live in Canada ...if that matters ) Thnx

Around 18-20 kg.
How much does it cost?
Buddy the board price it 350$. It 2x2 feet in dimension. Shipping extra.
Woah
Wow
beautiful, but - oh no, the numbers/letters are wrong in this one also :D hope you somehow fixed it
Thanks , Yeah I wasn't aware of that thing and just came to know few weeks ago when a person tell me that.
