I have finished this game and without spoiling anything I will say that peoples logic on meta critic is extremely flawed, just because the story isn't what you might have wanted it doesn't make the game trash. NaughtyDog told the story they wanted to tell and they told is beautifully in my opinion. I really have no end of praise for this game which wasn't afraid to challenge you emotionally and offer you these complex questions about whats right and whats wrong. The characters are all fantastic and I adored the chemistry between Ellie and Dina the most, they complement eachother so god damn well. I adored every aspect of this game, the violent moments and the quiet moments fuck this game is a joy and I feel that NaughtyDog have once again raised the bar for gaming.
I forgot to mention that this game took me 30+ hours to finish so I would bet a large amount of money (which I don't have) that people who gave shit reviews on the day of release hadn't even finished the game at that point.
You guys made the right take here. It's perfectly valid to dislike a game, not every game is for everyone. But disliking it because of a dumb ideology and review bombing is not valid. It's childish.
I know there are plenty of people that don't like the game and have extremely valid criticisms. And that's okay. What we're talking are are the people who don't.

There is nothing to make you feel like the world isn't in the middle of spreading a murderous disease than Gamey Gamey Game and I hate the fact that it's taken me a month and a half to realize that this episode existed

Slight spoilers for tlous2. I didn’t play the game, but I have watched a couple streams of it and what bothered me about it wasn’t the game itself but the way the people playing reacted to like the shift in the middle. I was watching that first flashback with the other characters and just in awe that the game had the guts to do what it was doing, but the streamers were absolutely pissed off. I can’t comment on the whole game because I actually stopped watching their stream after that because they just didn’t get what the game was doing and I got frustrated with them, but it actually blew my mind that people didn’t like or even appreciate the guts the game developers had to take the story in the direction that it went.
based on your discussion of this game and the things you liked about it i would like to also recommend pathologic 2 (you don't have to play the first one) and spec ops: the line. they are both games that do really interesting things with game narrative, violence and the nature of player agency and two of the few games that i would consider great works of art. unfortunately i can't play the last of us 2 because i don't have a ps4 but hopefully at some point i'll be able to play and form an opinion on it. thanks for being super funny and unrelenting in your pwnage of incels.

Having said that, I'm about 35 hours into the game and there's some great technical stuff I like, and there's some characters I love (Everything with Ellie, Dina, Yara, Jessie and ESPECIALLY Lev whom I absolutely adore), but I do have a lot of issues and criticisms of the game, esp when it comes to the pacing and the narrative/perspective choices. I'm glad everyone here had such an amazing time playing it. It's kinda making me wish I did too lol.
But even tho I have a bunch of criticisms, I cannot fathom how these weirdo incels are going out there and review bombing a game?? I'm glad y'all roasted those people. If you have issues or valid criticisms with a game that should be okay, but going out and review bombing and shitting it all over it for stupid misogynistic reasons is just pathetic.
Anyways, love you guys! Can't wait for the next ep!

I have two reason for not playing the Last of Us 2. I can't justify spending that much on a linear narrative based game at this time and unfortunately I cannot play an emotionally draining and dark themed game right now. That is it. Absolutely love that the playable characters are women.
There are actual women in the world with Abby's body type and I'm glad they are being represented same as futch Ellie is being represented.
All for the realistic violence and combat but I just cannot bring myself to play a game with such depressing themes at this time. It's more to do with my mental state than anything else.
When I'm feeling more light hearted and the game gets a sizable discount you can bet your ass I'm playing this masterpiece.

Love the show, and all these people, but it really sucks to hear them say how stupid every single person that doesn't agree with them is. Very disheartening

Here's the thing, telling people that "well you can't say so and so is a bad writer because what have you written" doesn't check out. Because you guys talk about videogames for hours on end, praising them or complaining/critiquing them, and none of yall knows how to make them. So that argument kinda falls apart there.
Also Important to remember that no one is right or wrong here. I really didn't like the game, thought the story, pacing, characters were all very poor compared to the first, didn't like the chemistry between Dina and Ellie at all, just felt forced and cringe, whereas I loved the chemistry between Ellie and her first girlfriend in the DLC for the first game. I felt like the gameplay was incredibly well polished but at the same time, felt like the same stuff from the first game. No real advancement, just a lot of polish. again, I'm not right and you're not right, this is all subjective opinion after all. But outright dismissing peoples complains as "well they just hate the gays" isn't great.
Love you all, think you've got some stuff to work on. Will continue to watch and support non the less :) stay safe guys.

You make valid points, but what we're picking on specifically is people rating the game 0/10 for bullshit ideological reasons. The game is clearly not for everyone, but review bombing is unfair to the devs and a childish way to express their opinion.
@@stupidoldevan That's a fair point also yeah. It's also, as you guys said, very clear that the review bombing didn't work at all. So at least there's that.
It's possible to objectively critique a story, but it requires a knowledge base and an ability to detach personal connections to story elements. When it comes to gaming, this is made much harder when we have strong emotional connections to these elements. You can see this bleed through in most reviews.
This is not to say that a subjective opinion is without merit, it is an entertainment product. However, I can't think of any review I've seen that hasnt been influenced heavily by emotional weighting one way or another. To be honest I would be surprised to see an in-depth critique so soon, there's a lot to unpack.
