    Do people honestly buy drums based on people just saying "They look good, they sound good, they seem durable" ...? What are the bearing edges like? What is the shell thickness? We really were told next to nothing about these kits. Ads like this completely boggle my mind.

    I really dig the way the guy with the big beard plays nice strong BackBeat good meter. And as far as the black dude I don't know his name but he's so fluid his style is amazing the way he takes is volume up and down he just kind of really shows you what a drum kit can do not to mention this drunk it kicks ass

      Yeah you can tell Questlove is one of his influences! I'm starting to change my way of playing from "chops" (example" Gerald Heyward, Calvin Rodgers to Questlove & this black guy) cause chops is too hard for me so I'm going more for dynamics & subtlety & more Bernie Purdie & Jodeci ballad type drumming

    The one thing I don’t get is, at this price point, why don’t you get decent heads with this kit? Some simple coated Amabassadors would be fine! In this video not one artist is using the stock heads, and for good reason. They sound awesome here and in other videos that the player has switched out the heads. I love these drums. I’m really thinking about making these my next kit? Just waiting to see if they bring out new colors next year, upgrade them, or what?

    It sounds really great. Cherry? It reminds me the discontinued Ludwig's Element SE. They made it for a brief period of time and regret not to buy one. Great sounding drums, just like these Neusonics. I use and love the also discontinued Ludwig Signet. Only problem is that I can't find a 10" tom for it. By the way,It seems that Ludwig used the tom mounts and bass drum legs from the Signet on these Neusonics. To me it's one of the best hardware ever made. The best bass drum legs, tom mounts and even wingnuts . The bass drum legs of the Signet deserves a design prize. Smart, lightweight, beautiful and simple.

    I notice lots of these drummers are playing with three or four toms despite these kits only coming in 3-piece shell packs with a bass drum, a mounted tom and a floor tom. If they know drummers are just going to get extra toms, why don't they make 4- or 5-piece packs?

    • @mikeplaysdrums23

      You can special order the other sizes. I ordered the base 20/12/14 kit and added a 16" floor as a special order from Musician's Friend. The three piece shell pack arrived in four days. I'm still waiting on the 16". Ludwig said up to 2 months on special orders, but you can get them. 10/12/13/14/16/20 and 22 are all available.

  • @jcw91371
    @jcw91371 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ludwig is definitely headed in the right direction. I love that they are mixing it up with different wood and bearing edge configurations. These NeuSonics are a FAR cry from my crappy old Rocker II's, and I'd wager you can set the toms without the mounting system stripping out and wobbling all over the place...lol. Those old beaters DID have a good sound if you replaced the batter heads and tuned them up good and proper though.
    In any event, I'm really impressed with the whole product line and can not BELIEVE the difference in quality with today's drums, hardware, and cymbals compared to the 80's when I was learning to play starting in 5th grade band( Ludwig UFO snare and Gladstone pad FTW! ). Back then, if you wanted perfectly round shells and immaculate build quality with hardware to match, you were headed to Germany to sell Horst Link your kidneys and perhaps some indentured servant time as well. But hey, you got your choice of Beech OR Beech!.( they had birch too, but it was a special, COSTLY birch that came from the trees of Valhalla and was crafted by pixies and unicorns under the strictest guidelines and watchful eyes of Minotaur overseers who didn't take days off, and overtime ain't cheap kids! ).
    Yeah I've said enough; the drums are great!

    I think Ludwig really knocked it out of the park with this one, especially given that they revisited the design and improved the bass-drum spurs. Yamaha came pretty close to this with the Rocktour... the issue was, it was too fragile! Light weight yes, super big sound yes... but 4 plies mahogany NO re-rings?! No way this is going to stand the rigour of rock touring. One bass player stomping away on your kick and it's game over....! I could see it bending :O I have the Yamaha as a studio kit - can't gig it. Anyway... I'm a sound engineer by trade and week-end warrior drummer who've been playing for over 17 years. Let me tell you I listened to A LOT of kits. I have an unhealthy obsession with drum tones at this point. And what I noticed is, most modern companies focus on making the perfect drum, and then the other perfect drum, and then put them together and call it a kit... but it doesn't really blend and vibe to me. And all companies make the same extreme exotic wood blend, thick shells, ultra-sharp, ridiculous sustain high-end kits that don't have any personality anymore. I can appreciate a DW and a Tama Starclassic... but I can't tell them appart just by sound. Yet, Ludwig stayed true to their sound and stay focus on the RIGHT things. It's beautiful to see that this drum set is being handmade here in the US - and during a pandemic nonetheless!

    I wonder what costs the most for the company, atlas mount/lugs for the toms or separate lugs and mounts?

    • @drumfanatik316
      @drumfanatik316 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      harrypar1 this was done because of weight. They designed these kits with the gigging drummer in mind. Instead of making another bebop kit like everyone else, they made a full size kit that’s light weight, and sounds amazing! The lugs on these drums are the smallest Ludwig has to offer. And the Triad mounts that they use are way lighter than the Atlas mounts. I have one of these kits and I have aKeystone X. The difference in the weight is astonishing! I can pick up this bass drum with one hand. Really nice, well made, great sounding drums!

      Mirkko De Maio that’s what helps keep the cost down when you have a line like this. It was the same with DW’s Performance Series when they first came out. Very limited sizes and colors. Now, you can get almost any size you want, but still limited in color options. I think in the future that the Neusonics will reach a popularity point, where Ludwig will start offering other sizes and configurations. When you launch a new line like this, you’re taking a huge risk! I think Ludwig nailed it and the line will only get better and expand!

      There is no comparison 2 the chinese import kits because its 2 completely different playing fields. what you get in those Chinese Maple kits is nowhere to the same caliber. We use North American Maple and Cherry in our shells. A far better grade and sound than the "mystery maple" used in a decade, catalina, or superstar. Not to mention superior drums hoops. NeuSonic drums are outfitted with 2.3mm triple-flanged hoops offering greater focus and retention of tuning.
      The import kits are great for what they are but at the end of the day no comparison in components alone, and even make a strong argument that there is no comparison in sound.

    Ya keep playing that snare and hi hat - you are Not demoing the snare! it doesn't come with the kit! Great snare, just not a vid for it here. The drums are great people. Remember every drum company must reinvent themselves every couple of years to keep their product current and their sales up! many Ludwig drum models have gone by the wayside because their popularity lasts for just so long then people need something new. These drums are great no doubt, but the sound attack and quality are not new, cherry is not new, colour is not new (Gretsch). Buy drums after YOU have played them and never mind about what wood is in the shell. Please check out all the vids here on youtube that compare drums and all their various assorted shell woods, thicknesses and bearing edges, you will get an education. I love Ludwigs, I have been playing them since 1967 as well as many other drums and now my own brand Celtic Pride . buyers beware. This is a Ludwig advertisement and you need to play your drums before you get all excited about a video) mics, heads, players(although in this case the drummers were just listening to themselves -ooh its time to show off). trying not to be negative, but I just couldn't hear the dialogue over the drumming and it set me off!!

    Is that the Ludwig factory in Indiana?

    Sadly,
    Drummers that know and play Ludwig are aware of the poor customer service of Ludwig. Unfortunately, it's common knowledge...(not just me saying this, check the boards)
    Why does Ludwig treat their customers so badly, even though they may like to play their brand of drums very much?

      The wood sheets ARE kept in a controlled environment...I've taken the plant tour a couple of times...and it's in MONROE, NORTH CAROLINA, USA. As for "poor customer service," your info (and the "boards") is as bogus as the plant location. I dropped an "Accent" tom mount setting up for a gig and broke the cymbal clamp (which I use all the time for a splash cymbal). When I checked the on-line catalogue I saw that individual parts didn't seem to be available so I called the 1-800 Ludwig Customer Assistance line and told them of my dilemma. They advised me that while parts couldn't be ordered they had a few items in their office and hooked me up with another clamp (they're drummers too!). I had it in the mail before our gig on the next weekend (and this kind of response for a Taiwan-import, inexpensive Accent kit!)! I've also had to call them for a part number for a spare chain for a then-new Atlas pedal and they couldn't have been nicer or more responsive. I'm still waiting to hear back from one of Ludwig's major U.S.-based competitors regarding parts for a kick drum pedal from a request that was made six months ago! If folks are having customer service problems they need to just pick up the phone and make a call! I now have a Classic Maple kit and couldn't be happier with it. Ludwig's customer service is tops!

      Paisteconvert I've been to Ludwig endorser for over two decades and I think that the people that are complaining are upset because they want instant gratification. When it comes to quality products like Ludwig makes there is no such thing as instant gratification. They put Pride into their work and there are people that have been there over 30 some odd years what does that tell you about a company?. I believe it says they take pride in what they do

      I bought one of the cheaper Ludwig kits (Questlove Pocket Kit) for my son and had an issue with one of the hoops not having a drilled hole. Talked to the retailer I purchased from and they goofed up. Called Ludwig and was on the horn with a rep in less time than it took me to get in touch with someone at the retailer, and he got a new hoop mailed out to me that day. This wasn't important in the grand scheme of things; my kid was a year and a half old and not gigging (yet!) and this was a $200 kids drum kit. That said, I was really impressed with their customer service and look forward to ordering a new higher-end kit from them myself someday.
