The key move that really changed this team, especially in end of game situations, was swapping Marcus Smart for Jrue Holiday. We loved Marcus, he played so hard and was a true Celtic, but he also would do some dumb things at the end of games that would leave you scratching your head. His defense is top 5, and he can still get you a bucket when all the attention is on the Jays. If Porzingus can play and be 80% of himself, the Celtics should win the Finals in no more than 5 games.
yes, very insightful comment. The Cs closing games were horrible. Now against Indiana there were 3 tight games that were resolved in last 3-5 minutes of the game thanks to the more experienced team + the addition of a player like Jrue to the roster.
Porzingis IMO has been a flop. He missed over 1/3 of the regular season and has only played in two and a quarter playoff games. He is made out of glass and effectively just a fan with court side tickets and being payed 20 million to watch games. If he doesn’t play in the finals this year that will be the worst acquisition Brad Stevens made in the off season. Especially when Naz Reid was an available free agent last year. He can do everything porzingis can do but do it better. Obviously Naz being an undrafted player would have been a gamble but so is porzingis with his entire career being plagued with feet, calf and ankle problems. I like him when he plays but he is proving he wasn’t that great of an addition. I don’t see him staying in Boston long term
Lots of things that arent true here: 1. Kp loves boston. He took a discount to extend. By all accounts he looks happy and wants to stay. 2. the wolves GM mentioned that there was no way they were letting naz reid walk. It was kat who was on the table. 3. Kp does everything naz reid can do but better. Its the other way around. Only thing you're right here about is availability issues with kp. 4. imo he wasnt great due to the missed games but that doesnt make him brad's biggest flop. lamar, brissett, svi, banton... there were so many other flops. And when KPs in game, he just changes the celtics dramatically.
The Celtics built their team like any team should, two superstar players and a boat load of depth. That's a real Superteam if you ask me. Look at all the failed "Superteams" out there. Phoenix, the 2022 Nets, both LA teams. They're just big names brought together to achieve the ultimate goal of clout and ticket sales. A championship seems to be secondary. The Celtics are actually built to win, jersey sales be damned.
It’s funny cause Tatum has the 3rd highest jersey sales regardless. Been like that the last 3 seasons I believe, only behind Curry and Bron. Two icons of the game.
The 86-87 lakers had the easiest path, they went up against the 37-45 nuggets first round, second round: 42-40 warriors, and the western conference finals was the 39-43 supersonics
and bro had the draft situations wrong lmao. Boston had the no.1 pick from the Brooklyn deals and since Philly wanted a PG they traded up and gave the Celtics another pick. so realistically if Philly wanted Tatum he would've been a Celtic anyway but just picked at no.1
The robert williams trade also ended up being another version of the Isaiah Thomas trade. Traded him away and then he tore his knee up which hes always had problems. Wish him and smart the best but both players were hurt this year and honestly somewhat injury prone for how limited they were offensively
I don't understand why the media hates the Cs. All this talk of "not clutch, not tough". It's a lose-lose. If they win big, they do what they're supposed to do, and they haven't proved they can be tough. If they win in the clutch, they get no credit because they "let it get too close". Even though they have 3 50 point wins, and something like the most comeback wins from down 10 this season. Honestly, the only team that I think could def beat them isn't even in the playoffs anymore. I guess we'll see.
This is just drama and conjecture by the media. The C's have had some big flops in big games. The emerging leadership of JB and JT, rounding out the roster and more defined roles have transformed this team. Most teams do not have the staying power to be lambasted for previous " chokes" . They just drift back to the sea of mediocrity. This team is the product of a long, successful "process", resulting in the scariest team in the NBA right now. Do you really think Denver was beating this team this year, giving up homecourt? I think the Celtics take the title and I'm not sure it makes much difference who they play, or where.
People talks about our nets trade but the Philly trade was just disrespectful. You trade to a serious rival in your division the number ONE pick knowing that they don’t know what to do with it and even worse, the Lakers are at 2! Our western conference rivals and you know THEY don’t know what to do with their pick either. Make the trade with plenty of time before the draft too, AND get another first round pick in the deal, the best player in the draft and the Sixers and Lakers end up drafting busts.
The Celtics management knew right away from the first Tatum season that they had two future All-Stars and franchise players on the roster. They landed good free agents in Al Horford first and then in Gordon Hayward. Plus making a bold move trading an injured Isaiah Thomas for Kyrie. Then only in the first game of the season, this project was ruined after Hayward's terrible injury. Kyrie couldn't lead a team alone and the Celtics wasted these one-two years championship window with that team. Which lead to Tatum and Brown developing as they were expected and they were given the lead of this team once Kyrie, Gordon and later Kemba Walker was gone. Then it was basically doubling on on them. And getting the key pieces to complement them with the right players around, even if it meant sacrificing loved players like Marcus Smart or talented young players like Rob Williams or Grant Williams. And it has payed off so far. This will be the first Celtics real run to the finals. And given the ages of Tatum and Brown the surrounding cast will be changing over the years, but there will be more finals appearances coming and the front management knows that. Brad Stevens has done a great job to the Cs so far as a coach and as a GM, and he will stick to it with Tatum and Brown as the team's stars for the next decade.
Why? I like smarts dog mentality but the guards they have now make much much better decisions especially in the clutch. I was one of the rare fans that was relieved when they traded him....but I was very worried before they got holiday honestly. Much worse places to land than the grizzlies he will be fine there.
It is to be noted that Celtics were able to do much of what they did because of the fact that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are "home-grown" players they drafted. It allowed them to gather salary elsewhere and use it alongside first rounders to acquire quality players like Derrick White, Porzingis and Holiday. Meanwhile, Tatum and Brown could be signed to hefty extensions by going over the cap.
Porzingis is made out of glass. He’s getting paid 30 million to sit court side and spectate games. He has missed 1/3 of the regular season. He has missed almost the entire playoffs. He has been injury prone since his rookie year. The fact they gave him a 2 year extension before he played a single game is foolish. I don’t see him staying in Boston long especially if he doesn’t play in the finals and misses Ivey 1/3 of the season like he did this year. Hes great when he plays which isn’t often
One other component of the KP/Jrue deal. When the Clippers side fell apart, the Celtics were PISSED because KP was on an extension deadline. They needed to get that deal done by midnight. So when they called Memphis, the grizz knew there was a time crunch and simply gave the Celtics their best offer. Who knows if there had been longer negotiation if the grizz give up two firsts instead of one but it's that specific leverage that got the Celtics Jrue ultimately w/ the additional assets. Remember Philly was super interested in Jrue but Boston simply had better assets largely because of the Smart/KP deal.
@Cavaliers71 LOL. Um. What. What offer was better than Boston's? They got two firsts-- one of which became a lottery pick. They can still deal Brogdon for a first somewhere and they felt like Williams was worth the gamble as a young big(he got hurt early in the year). Even at the time people felt like Boston's was the most asset rich offer.
@@duplexarco it actually goes deeper than that aswell, the heat also wanted to trade for jrue when he was available but the GM of the blazers was still salty at pat so he ignored all the offers
And Injuries severely decimated Hayward, Kemba and Williams during the early Tatum/Brown years. But for some reason, those teams are still considered "superteams" when the only consistently good thing about them where....Tatum and Brown.
Out of guys with at least 3 post possessions a game - a shockingly small group in the modern NBA - Zingis had the best numbers across the board, including efg, fouls against, and 1s, points per possession, etc. That small group does include Embiid and Jokic. Zingis is basically unguardable if you let him get to within ten feet of the basket. 7'3 does have certain benefits in the game of basketball. He also averages 37.5% on 3s, and takes more than five per game.
Weirdly enough, I think Malcolm brodman on the clippers would have been a improvement over James harden overall, so them having cold feet is really terrible when you consider that the Celtics made the NBA finals without their heart and soul
@@dwaynekeenum1916 yep they def are and no doubt he's streaky but we have depth and his skill as an all around capable of hitting 50 is great. Also he's leading the team statistics. Overall.

@Cavaliers71 i love what Brad has done and I wouldn’t change a thing. Just feel like Ainge gets a lot of hate from nba fans. Gotta remember that he was basically the one who built this team, and Brad took them to the next level
I feel everyone is getting so bombarded with the Boston had an easy road story, that they forgot they have like 7 people who can give you 20 between the 5 starters Al horford or even Pritchard if he gets hot, he will start chucking. The fact they went in this run without their starting center and that was barely noticed or mentioned is to me testament to how good this team is, because he averaged 20/8 on good splits
Miami Heat didn't have Terry and Jimmy. The Cavaliers didn't have Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen. The Pacers were missing Myles Turner and Tyrese Haliburton for most of the games. This team had the easiest path and a free ride to the finals. I have never seen an easier path in history. Also, they have a stacked team. However, it's important to note that not all Celtics fans are racist.
Ironically we can thank Kyrie ! Celtics were all in on trading Tatum and Brown to New Orleans UNTIL...Kyrie changed his mind and left to team up in Brooklyn. AD said if Ainge signs him it will ONLY be a rental. He KNEW he was going to go to L.A. with Lebron. Kyrie leaving changed ALL of Bostons plans and they had to pivot to Kemba Walker and roll with the Jays. The city of Boston and Fans LOVED Kyrie. He just switched up at the last second and refused to talk to anyone. That's where the boos for him come in. Glad he left though. Because if he doesn't we likely trade for AD on a one year. Kyrie STILL leaves, and The Jays are New Orleans. Celtics would have had NOTHING. I'm telling you as a Celtics fan for 45× years...that s how we got here after Kyrie. Ainge was building the team FOR Kyrie...man just switched at the last second and joined KD. Non Boston fans who don't follow the tram have no idea how it went down believe the narrative that the city hated him. Maaan EVERYBODY catered to him in Boston. EVERYBODY 💯
I'm still mad at people who wanted to trade Tatum for AD and Jaylen for either KD or harden. Tricks moves either way. Glad the Celtics realized that stars in their early 20s with no injury history are more valuable than names.
This roster is a lot better than the 2022 the finals team. As much as I loved Smart, he was often not great on offense, very inefficient at times and didnt help their late game execution nearly as much a Jrue and and DWhite in his current form. In 2022 DWhite hadnt yet really emerged as a trusted offensive presence. Robert Williams was a bit banged up and really had no offensive game besides catching lobs. Porzingas is really the wild card this year. He doesnt have a ton of playoff experience and how well he plays could absolutely decided this series. Especially on defense, he has been a high level rim protector at times during the season with his absurd length, blocking shots even when he seems out of position just beceause of his long reach. Plus if KP and Al are knocking down 3s at good efficiency, its almost impossible to guard this Celtics team. And the Celts have been really good at getting smaller defenders switched onto KP for him to just shoot over people for easy mid range buckets. They have a really great team and I hope they show up in peak form and win this thing!
Derrick White was actually pretty bad in the first playoffs in Boston, but after having an off-season and training camp he's been incredible for the Celtics.
Danny Ainge deserves a ring as well if the Celtics win it all. Trading down to choose JT over Fultz and Ball is one of the best moves in history. Btw Romeo Langford ended up being one of the pieces to trade to San Antonio for Derrick White.
The Celtics accepted three players are "#4 options", allowing each to be a good #3 option at times. But few teams want to commit $30M/yr to #4 options, though Boston could because their #1-2 are under $40M this year, and White is still around $20M. BTW, they extended Jrue Holiday's contract, with next year now being at a lower salary than his player option would have been. He is also a better fit for the Celtics than for the Bucks because Middeton's injury history puts more pressure on Jrue, but that isn't there with the Celtics. Anybody could have gotten him from Portland, it was well publicized that he wasn't unpacking his bags, he was going to get sent somewhere else. Stevens probably told him, "Come to Boston and settle things down for Jayson and Jalen. We make too many turnovers and need better decision making. You can toss the ball to KP, and you and Derrick will be the best defensive backcourt in the league."
It didn’t take a day to put it together, but diamonds take a while to mold. This team is better. Holliday, emergence of Pritchard, Kristaps when healthy
Wdym Al Horford back on the team? He's only ever played for Boston and Atlanta, it was a collective dream we all had when we thought he was on the 6ers and Thunder.
Hey Tucker whats your opinion on the 2017 east? I personally think the 2017 east was weaker then this years eastern conference, both years are incredibly week but the cavs swept there way to the finals the Celtics looked beatable for 75% of this playoffs even though they have a great record going into the finals?¿
Wait, are you telling me Philly gave up the number 5 pick (De’Aaron Fox) to get the number 3 pick (Jayson Tatum) just to trade for the number one pick??
what we have learn is that Washington is a gold mine of players. You have a struggling player? Easy dump him there for a year or two, it`s like a training camp with no responsibility, then get him back :D or pick another one. Worked well for Boston and Mavericks this year
I think they beat the Warriors 2 years ago if they don't make the White trade, but they're definitely better for it now. Josh Richardson had the tools they were missing for that run and was a better shooter than White at the time. Trading him for White was kind of a bad move just player-for-player back then. Now it's completely flipped.
Udoka is NOT a better coach than Mazzulla. His Xs & Os & development of players are no where near Mazzulla. He's part of the reason that they lost the finals to the Warriors and endured 2 game 7 series because he kept using the same plays without enough adjustments and defenses just zoned in to focus on the 2 Js
Al didn't leave Boston for money at all. He left because of Kyrie and the toxic effect he was having on the team. Of course, Kyrie then ended up blowing town later in the summer but Al had no way of knowing that when he signed the Philly deal.
I wanna rant about something How are we gonna discredit boston for playing who they had to. A) they didnt control who they played and b) the pacers are a really really good team and so are the cavs. Everyone is acting like they played three 8 seeds. Im a sixers fan, i have more reason then most of you to hate on the celtics, but shitting on them for that is insane to me.

Lots of things that arent true here:
5 games, dead on. Congrats to the Celtics!!
Give credit to Brad for assembling this team..man is a genius
The Celtics built their team like any team should, two superstar players and a boat load of depth. That's a real Superteam if you ask me. Look at all the failed "Superteams" out there. Phoenix, the 2022 Nets, both LA teams. They're just big names brought together to achieve the ultimate goal of clout and ticket sales. A championship seems to be secondary. The Celtics are actually built to win, jersey sales be damned.
that shit is not two superstars, thats 5 all stars on one team and depth
@@the-w-omen9179dont discount big Al arguably the most valuable old man in basketball today besides lebron and hes a former allstar too
It’s funny cause Tatum has the 3rd highest jersey sales regardless. Been like that the last 3 seasons I believe, only behind Curry and Bron. Two icons of the game.
@@the-w-omen9179so why did they only have 2 all stars this year?
@@ejp507 cause its simply the all star game but its pretty clear, Tatum, brown, Jrue, white, and KP are all star caliber level players
The 86-87 lakers had the easiest path, they went up against the 37-45 nuggets first round, second round: 42-40 warriors, and the western conference finals was the 39-43 supersonics
The Finals tho was legendary
@@splashnskillz37 for sure
Bro mixed up JB and JT draft years in the thumbnail 💀
I fixed it haha my bad
and bro had the draft situations wrong lmao. Boston had the no.1 pick from the Brooklyn deals and since Philly wanted a PG they traded up and gave the Celtics another pick. so realistically if Philly wanted Tatum he would've been a Celtic anyway but just picked at no.1
Phillys pick didn’t work out well
The robert williams trade also ended up being another version of the Isaiah Thomas trade.
@@kellydoyle7833they still rich l.bj stay flopping in cheating
Brad stevens is a basketball 🏀 genius.❤
The fact that Celtics has JB,JT, & kyrie is insane

Kyrie is a robin not Batman. He couldn’t do shit with the Celtics
the rebuild starter when they drafted marcus smart, he deserves a ring if they win it all this year
Why? I like smarts dog mentality but the guards they have now make much much better decisions especially in the clutch. I was one of the rare fans that was relieved when they traded him....but I was very worried before they got holiday honestly. Much worse places to land than the grizzlies he will be fine there.
Great breakdown of C's formation.Really good. Thanks.
With the 2nd apron now tho...
@@ErnieBert-eg8kdyou mad
@@TashaOneal-l8h stating facts. Are you dumb?
The Celtics bucks and blazers hated Miami so much that they set this all up basically
nah Pat Riley's cheapness cost them from getting Dame. He think his team will be that lucky again after the failed '23 Cinderella run

I wanna hear the music next time Tucker
I forget the year, but in the 80's, the Lakers made the finals without playing a team with more than 40 wins.
Wasted a lottery pick on Kyrie and used another to get Horford back
And Injuries severely decimated Hayward, Kemba and Williams during the early Tatum/Brown years. But for some reason, those teams are still considered "superteams" when the only consistently good thing about them where....Tatum and Brown.
Love these kind of videos Tucker
They were good but their biggest move I feel was getting holiday, dudes a gamer !
Saying Tatum is arguably a top 10 player in the league is mad disrespectful. He is top 5

Danny Ainge never got enough credit
Danny Ainge snaked my boy fuck that guy
@Cavaliers71 i love what Brad has done and I wouldn’t change a thing. Just feel like Ainge gets a lot of hate from nba fans. Gotta remember that he was basically the one who built this team, and Brad took them to the next level
Smart was holding Dwhite back and I think STevens was trading him regardless. Smart made it tough on Mazulla to coach too.
Easy answer: Brad Stevens was playing 2k one day and saw the crazy line ups and said “I want to make a crazy line up in real life”
Thanks!
Build a statue of Billy King statue in front of TD garden… maybe the worst trade in history
So basically trading back in the 2017 Draft got them Tatum and Derrick White is what i'm hearing
JT is arguably top 5.. definitely top 10
Great vid, only have to disagree on one point, Ime was a great coach but my boy Joe is a genius
Tatum is top ten I would say 6 or 7 and I’d definitely the best player from that draft
Danny Ainge deserves a ring as well if the Celtics win it all. Trading down to choose JT over Fultz and Ball is one of the best moves in history. Btw Romeo Langford ended up being one of the pieces to trade to San Antonio for Derrick White.
Not a title contender but have been to ECF for 6 of the last what 8 years, and finals in 2 of the last 4 years.
I'm not sure you csn say Ime is better than Mazzula is right now. Mazz is a pretty great coach and he is proving it during this playoff run.
The letting by the mysterious they means nothing unless Celtics win it all. Go Celtics!
“Tatum is arguably top 10” bro he is top 5 cope mald and seethe nets fan
It was Brooklyn’s pick in 2017 that they traded to get Tatum
Everyone hates Boston and bashes them but would give their left arm to have Brad Stevens running their team
As a Nets fans, the Nets allowed this lol
2021 draft didn't have Deng btw he was drafted in 2022.
😂😂
guy meant top five. lol imagine Tatum listed somwhere at 6 or god forbid 7 or 8
Hey Tucker whats your opinion on the 2017 east? I personally think the 2017 east was weaker then this years eastern conference, both years are incredibly week but the cavs swept there way to the finals the Celtics looked beatable for 75% of this playoffs even though they have a great record going into the finals?¿
Wait, are you telling me Philly gave up the number 5 pick (De’Aaron Fox) to get the number 3 pick (Jayson Tatum) just to trade for the number one pick??
BOSTON IN 6
what we have learn is that Washington is a gold mine of players. You have a struggling player? Easy dump him there for a year or two, it`s like a training camp with no responsibility, then get him back :D or pick another one. Worked well for Boston and Mavericks this year
I’d love to see Boston draft and develop another big man next year. Al is old and KP is injury prone. We need better options then Tillman and Kornet
It’s called the Brooklyn Nets, Spurs take Josh Richardson and a 1st for Dwhite and somehow swapping Marcus Smart for Porzingis
“Arguably a top ten player in the league” about a guy that’s made 1st team all NBA two years straight
The screenshots of the roster was not the roster they had taken to the finals in 22 lol schroder was long gone by then
C's fans pretty much won't be happy with anything short of a 3peat. We had a shot at a 5peat but we blew it.
David Stern wouldn't have let this happen
Actually Cleveland had an easier route, and they did it without KP
The moral of the story is…..DO NOT TRADE WITH BOSTON!!!
Lmfaooooo i needed a good laugh
They're lucky they didn't see Giannis Antetokounmpo
Why? They knocked him out every year they met except the Kyrie quit on the team year.
Bucks were never a threat for the Celtics honestly. They were bulit to stop them including their defensive guards who could guard Dame
I blame Milwaukee for Boston success
Brad Stevens taking a page out of moneyball
Al didn't leave Boston for money at all. He left because of Kyrie and the toxic effect he was having on the team. Of course, Kyrie then ended up blowing town later in the summer but Al had no way of knowing that when he signed the Philly deal.
I wanna rant about something
How are we gonna discredit boston for playing who they had to. A) they didnt control who they played and b) the pacers are a really really good team and so are the cavs. Everyone is acting like they played three 8 seeds. Im a sixers fan, i have more reason then most of you to hate on the celtics, but shitting on them for that is insane to me.
People discredit them cuz those two teams u mentioned didn`t have their best player but Indiana had no chance even with a healthy Hali and u play who u play.
Jump on the media hater train of the Celtics all you want, it’s impressive what they’ve done the past couple years. A lot of people would love to trade places with them
Lebron had 10 years of playing again the pacers, knicks, and hawks. But now, all of a sudden, this is the easiest path.
