Awesome job! As someone who has lived and worked in ND all my life, I appreciate your thorough and glowing review! Growing up and living in this state is the best you can ask for :)
My family and I spent 10 years in Grand Forks North Dakota while in the Air Force. You will never meet a better bunch of people. Warm , friendly and gracious. We often talk about the good times and how we would like to go back and visit.
Nicely done! This video captures many of the wonderful things about North Dakota. Grew up in Dickinson, and spent many a summer at my grandparent's farm, where I learned the value of hard work. Still miss the wide open spaces!
My mom was from ND and after many years of making trips there, I must admit, there is no place like it! I love the solitude of the open airy spaces and the beauty of untouched land. I come from New England, where there is hardly any untouched land, so it is a mental vacation to go to ND and listen to the beauty! Nice video!
I was born in N.D. My Grandparents, Hilda & George Tvedt were Homesteaders in Red River Valley, I am the daughter of John & Augusta Lee. My Grand daughter Jen, works with Energy Companies with the newly developed oil industry in No Dak. This is a great video, thank you for sharing it with us. Janice Lee Caserta, Make me homesick for No Dak.
I was born in Bismarck, but lived my first 6 months in Werner. My father was a storekeeper & butcher, my mother came to Werner as a school teacher, met and married my father. The relocated to Hazen in the spring of 1941 to open a new Red & White grocery store. My older brother David and I were born in the same year, he in January and I in December of 1940. We were taken for twins most of our lives. I now live in Escondido, CA, David lives in Phoenix, AZ We are still close family.
Hi, I had a friend from ND and she was a wonderful friend. We don't see each other anymore but ND is a very intriguing place. I am in New York City..I lived in New England too. I am part Austrian, so it is cool that you became a person who works in Vienna from ND. I would love to visit ND. It is the closet thing to being in Norway in the USA LOL. Your family history is interesting.
I grew up in the Red River Valley near Abercrombie, North Dakota. This was nicely done! Great job highlighting so many positives and giving some history as well!
I feel like North Dakota is one of the most intellectually deeply valued rural landscapes in the US and possibly the world. People who understand and appreciate the outdoors, history, ancestry, our freedom to shape the present day, and the labor of farming and taking care of the land. I like you people and I'm proud this is a US state. Thank you for making this video.
Wonderful to see a positive video about North Dakota. I was born and raised in North Dakota. My paternal and maternal grandparents homesteaded in North Dakota and lived in a home much like the one shown in the film, and I am proud to be a citizen of North Dakota.
I just learned of this video (which is great) from someone on the blog, ReadingNorthDakota, which is devoted to North Dakota stories and authors. This month readers are focusing on my novel, DAKOTA, OR WHAT'S A HEAVEN FOR, literary historical fiction set in mid-19th century Dakota Territory. The talk is about bonanza farms, homesteads, and much more, including the weather, of course. I'm from Absaraka, by the way!
I didn't check the facts and it would appear from some comments that there are some issues. But I still enjoyed the video and the props given to one of the best kept secrets in the lower 48. Oil booms will come and go, farming is always feast or famine. But the quality of the residents of ND are tops, raising the bar for the rest of the nation. And that will remain constant. Ain't no other state like it!
Just love the series on U.S. states prepared by the U.S. Embassy in Vienna. Congratulations for creating an exceptional educational resource (Robin Ruggles, Ph.D., Founder of Eloray online social studies resources).
Spent 11 years there - best years of my life. Mother born at Dunn Center in 1917; 96 years later I was working an oil exploration site a few miles north of there in Dunn County
I'm from the other "North" state in the USA! I am a born and bred southern boy from the great state of North Carolina! I have visited all of our beautiful 50 states and DC---and I really love the wide open spaces and beauty of the great state of North Dakota!
i am honored for being the first Mexican in the fulbright exchange teacher program in Bismarck, teaching spanish in CHS, the best pow-wow, friendly people that shows that only smart people can resist cold weather, Blessings North Dakota!!!!
Our families migrated in the 1800 from Quebec. Farming areas just south of what the border is today Turtle Mountain area (Bottineau). Yes, there were some French people around also. Several hundred years, they couldn't shake the British in Canada (kidding, of course). I really enjoyed your presentation.
It should be interesting to see how the state, especially its more populated areas, starts to develop with the new oil boom and the population growth from that.
This video claims that his grandfather's home is pictured at 3:00 min. It is not !! It belonged to my grandfather and great grandfather. Please click on my picture and go to the North Dakota video to see the truth. !!
Hi, Just saw this video by searching for ND at TH-cam. I grew up in Mandan in the 1950s. Back only once in 1960. Have wanted to return but never had the money. Never will now because I am gay and ND is not very gay friendly.
Embarrassing for the embassy to put up a video like this, claiming that a photo of my grandparents are HIS grandparents at 3:00 min. Look anywhere on the web at the Hulstrand collection of photos. This photo, from the Hulstrand collection was used for a U.S. postage stamp as well as a Norwegian stamp. Any research will show it is of John Bakken and his wife and children , Eddie and Tilda. Shame on you people!!
Awesome job! As someone who has lived and worked in ND all my life, I appreciate your thorough and glowing review! Growing up and living in this state is the best you can ask for :)

Good to hear
I grew up in Minot, but left upon graduation. My parents were still in Minot, so I visited them often. We are Finnish.

Wonderful to see a positive video about North Dakota. I was born and raised in North Dakota. My paternal and maternal grandparents homesteaded in North Dakota and lived in a home much like the one shown in the film, and I am proud to be a citizen of North Dakota.

Hello from Fargo ND :D
Hello back at you from Connecticut :D
Lincoln did not take office until March 4, 1861. The Dakota Territories were formed on March 2, 1861, so Buchanan was still in office.
I enjoyed your video and God willing i will make a trip there in the future,,,,your very handsome by the way! ;-) Thanks for sharing your home state.

Grew up there! Now my old farmstead is covered by the oil production.
Oh how the times change

I thought I heard the name as Hillesland in the video. I'm not doubting you, but I heard a different name than you reference above.
