Thanks so much! I came across this searching for repair tips for a Sony DVP-S7700 that wouldn’t read discs. I was doubtful that it would work, but went through the tedious process of tearing it apart and getting to the potentiometers and adjusting them. Sure enough, it’s reading DVDs and CDs now, all thanks to you!
your old trick really helped me. I am very grateful for that trick of yours. I repaired my Samsung MAX-B450. He is working now, and I am happy. I am subscriber now forever. 🥂
THANK YOU!! i found this really cool dvd player at a local thrift shop, and i was really disappointed when it stopped working after one use. this was just the fix it needed!!!
My great aunt used to have this DVD player. She bought it brand new and used it for a really long time! She has had a lot of dvds and also cds as well. Many years later she gave it to my other great-aunt because she moved into her apartment so that she can watch movies and also the TV. Really good product
I remember I had the same DVD player that had the same problem but when I would put the disc in the display would not be blanked it would actually say No Disc when I would put the disc in which is weird but what you did would probably have fixed it! Thanks for the advice man! Your the best repair man!

Did the same thing but used a analog oscilloscope to trim it. Works like a charm now :) I highly recommend to try out different DVDs and witreable DVDs to test if the laser reads all of them.
I tend to just change out the optical pickup. These are often too expensive to buy, but many will exchange from one brand to another. So much CD and DVD gear is being donated and disposed of -- I keep a few units in my parts bin.
Hey! Thank you very much for the help in this video! Fixed mine today tweaking the potentiometer, it was actually harder to take the player out of its place then to actually fix it!

Hello, thank you for your good video. I also have a Sony DVD player that has a loading problem and it stays in the same state. I think you rotated it a little instead of changing the optics. I am from Iran.❤
Thanks for the video. I have the exact same unit you have. I did what you said to do about increasing the voltage the laser and it worked perfectly. I did not mark as you requested to do before turning the switch clockwise but used the notch on top to use as guidance. I used a box cutting blade to turn the switch. My question is where can I find another replacement unit that you removed from the DVD player. I have looked online an been unable to find. Thanks for everything I appreciate it.
Mate freind ...thanks iv a devon sound system /dvd player ..not worked for years now back to life .tho had two wee dails just tweted both a little .thank you
I will try this. I have a similar model and most of the time it can't read the disk. It stays spinning for like one or two minutes and then it stops. I've tried cleaning the optic but it has given me no result. However, moving the laser module to different positions has worked sometimes and it loaded the disc but with many problems reading some tracks or jumping between them. Do you think that I would just need to adjust the potentiometer? What could it be?
I had a TEAC plastic table top AM/FM/CD player and the CD just quite. I tried this adjustment and n=moved it less than you clockwise. it came back but will occasionally not read the CD. like 1 out of 10 times. Are these laser assemblies easy to replace or a nightmare. It a nice radio with good tone I would like to keep it around if I could. Thanks Great vids.
Hi man, I changed the laser pickup on my 95 Sony player but it still stops and errors after reading the disc for 30 s. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Thanks.
I have a similar problem with a Go Video R6740 DVD Recorder that does not recognized the installed disc. Does this repair apply likewise to a Recorder?
My DVD player is a LG and plays some commercial DVDs but not others & the ones it won't play (says disk error) are in mint condition. Sometimes can get them to play if I hit the play button several times. Just dont know what's wrong
My Blue Ray's player is doing this on Blue Ray disc. DVD disc however work fine. Sometimes after multiple attempts I can get the Blue Ray to start & then it works fine but it's getting it to not error. It's a big pain.
I really like my RCA home theatre system. It has AM/FM, sirius radio, six speaker output, usb input and a 5 cd/dvd player. The cd/dvd player squalls when the power is turned on drowning out the sound of the system on normal listenimg level. I purchased a bluray player to watch blurays and dvds on my television hooking it directly to #3 input on the tv for video and sound. Problem: can the internal drive be fixed? Replaced with anything quieter? Or just disabled to keep the other inputs and outputs usable? Thanks,.mts
Thanks so much for making this informative, troubleshooting video. For my Philips DVP3960/37 I do not have the disc error. Instead, what I have found is that the player finds it difficult to spin the disc, specifically to start the spinning it. Do you think adjusting the potentiometer would help? What would you recommend to repair this problem, any parts need replacement . Thank you!

I have the sony cmt-hpr99xm unit and suddenly when attempting to read a disc, it seems to lose power, the display dims as it keeps trying to read tracks and then just says "No Disc". Is this fixable ??
I have a Philips Blu-ray player and won't read CD's (makes a lot of noise), DVD's sometimes and Blu-Ray plays fine. However, I can't find any trim-pot. Is this because it is new laser, doesn't exists on new lasers?
I did just as you described in youR video on my (same model) Sony which would read DVD’s but wouldn’t read 2 of 6 different CD’s that I tried. I kept doing iterations of turning that potentiometer until I had turned it a full revolution. But, the same result every time, reads 4 of the CD’s but not the other 2. And I did check two other CD players I have and they both read all 6 easily. So now I don’t know what to do. I guess I’ll turn the potentiometer back to where it originally was for now. Any ideas? Thanks
Hi, I was wondering where you can buy a new lens unit for a Toshiba DVR630KC model VCR/DVD? They don't manufacture 90% of the combo units they made a few years ago . My DVD player won't load. Cleaned the lens but still won't load. Any help please. Thanks Michael Newell from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada
I'm a little nervous about taking my machine apart .is there any other way to clean it? Been sitting for a few years in storage. I'm sure that day t is dirty
I have a 400-DVD "jukebox" player that plays CDs, CDRs, CDRWs, just fine, but will not play ANY DVD whatsoever - the display message (for DVDs) is "Cannot Read", rather than "No Disc". All discs used/tested were commercial/store-bought/brand new, and even some "home burn" DVD+/-R discs. No dice. Could the calibration adjustment you demonstrated here potentially correct that issue as well? Or is it something else? I suspect, that it has the "wrong" laser lens (a "CD only" type), but that may not even be "a thing"? It's a seemingly decent machine (plays audio discs just fine) and I would hate to have to drop another $400+ on another machine, especially if there is any (inexpensive) way of diagnosing and correcting this one?
th-cam.com/video/ud62whnwOGE/w-d-xo.html I believe its that video. I never got around to editing it fully so its long. But basically there's 2 adjustments usually. One for DVD and one for CD playback.
Dear Electronicle, thank you for making and posting this video. I have an older Magnavox CD player (purchased new ~1986) that will start and plays the 1st two tracks fine. But after the 2nd track, it begins to emit a high pitch sound, (it's soft, and not loud, so I have to mute the music to hear it). (Not heard during 1st two tracks). Thus, into 3rd track (& beyond), it pays, but after ~30 sec, sometimes more (~60-120 sec), sometimes less, it will stop (lose it's tracking), and I can hear the read lens assembly returning to home position. ¿Is what you've shown here something I can try? As mentioned, it does read the table of contents, and begins to play, and it's ok for the first two tracks. It's after these, that it goes awry. It has begun to behave this way about 5-8 year ago, but I'd like not part with it, as new ones are expensive, and this sounds very nice in my stereo system. Any comments most welcomed. Thank you. tonyd\.
If a unit is fixed via adjusting the pot as shown, does it often last a long time? I sometimes resell old DVD players and wondering for cases like the one shown if it would be better to replace the optical pickup assembly compared to adjusting an old one? By the way, how much on average do the opt pick up assemblies cost? Are they all model specific or are generics commonly available? Great vid by the way, a real stand out from the other offerings.

Is there any way or method to open it whitout damage the sistem inside the squere? I realy want to fix it to record some pictures. Can you help me? Regards
Looking for fix when my magnovox dvd player says no disc and the problem is because the spinning disc does not "grab" the disc so that the disc will not spin. I thought about applying silicone to add some grip.
My DVP-NS300 will randomly give a No Disc. I have a few new discs that are always No Disc. Cleaned the lens as shown and then turned the POT by 10 degree. No difference. Then turned the POT a further 1 deg, No Diff. Gone another 10 degrees and still no diff. Not sure if 30 degrees is really pushing a limit... or if I should crank it up??
DVD players use 2 lasers. One for the DVD and one for cds. They usually will also have 2 pots. Be sure you are turning the proper one. If it still doesn't work you may need a new laser pickup assembly.
Great advice, it read the disc after tweaking its potentiometer, but the player's timer stops counting after a minute and some seconds, what could be wrong?
Question? I'm planning to buy a shanling cd-s100 cd player, and I found out that I could buy, original remplacement optical laser lens. Would it be a good investment?, the day that I have a problem with my cd player, I could simply replace the laser lens. Wouldn't that extend my cd player for a longtime use instead of buying a new one?
@@Electronicle Today I had to open my Onkyo C7030 player and clean the laser head. I had to go under the plastic black lid and clean it with a Q-tip, and with the help of electronic air duster to remove any dust inside the Cd player. There is no screws to remove the black tray nor the top lid, for I would like to replace by myself the optical head if needed. Wish their were a way to do it, but there no video on how to open and remove the black tray were there is no screws.
I have the DVP-NS300, same as you repaired in this video. Today my son managed to pull the elastic belt out of the tray drive, and I can't get it open to access the place to put it back in. When I press the Open/Close button on the unit, I hear a whirring sound but nothing happens. I've taken the case cover off the unit but can't figure out how to disconnect the connectors to take things apart enough to get to the place where the drive belt goes to put it back on. Is that something you could address in a future video? Thanks!
Sure. I'll look tomorrow at this unit and see how you can get it open. There's usually a way to sneak a flathead in under the mechanism to spin the gear to at least unlock the drawer.
Thanks, but we figured it out today! All is back in working order. My son was proud to be part of the repair process, and your video helped to fix the "No Disk" error we were having, too! Thank you very much!
Thanks. It worked fir my Denon DVD Player. It has three potentiometers. I took the first one on the left and rotated it a tweak to the right. Now my newer CDs are playing again.

I have a Sony 3d player home theater system - experiencing no disk error. Can you give me approx cost to replace pickup assembly if the method you demonstrated does not work. I would not attempt this repair myself ,et it seemed straight forward enough. Thanks
@@tombateman7271 a quick google search shows approx $50 USD for parts. As far as labor, you would have to ask whomever you have doing the repair if you aren't installing yourself.
Have taken my unit for repair - shop reports difficulty in locating optical drive (optical assembly 4-262-994-01 part # supplied by technician assuming it is correct.) From your reply you may have found a optical drive - would you mind sharing your source. I am unable to locate a replacement completing several search attempts. Thanks....
I replaced the belts on a Sony W50 C cd player....But now it doesn't track correctly after about the 4th or 5th song. Does fine on the first 3 or 4....What's my problem?.. Thanks
hard to say without looking at it, but the part that moves the laser pickup is a long gear connected to a motor. The name of the part escapes me at the moment, however make sure that gear is clean and it can move the pickup assembly back and forth without issue. You can turn it by hand

DVD players use 2 lasers. One for the DVD and one for cds. They usually will also have 2 pots. Be sure you are turning the proper one. If it still doesn't work you may need a new laser pickup assembly.
@@Electronicle I have the same DVD player you are showing in this video. 1 Pot. Turned it CW.
very professional, no drug music! consider how to fix a scratched dvd.
Great advice, it read the disc after tweaking its potentiometer, but the player's timer stops counting after a minute and some seconds, what could be wrong?
Thanks you educated me .
Sounds like a plan. yeah go for it
@@Electronicle Today I had to open my Onkyo C7030 player and clean the laser head. I had to go under the plastic black lid and clean it with a Q-tip, and with the help of electronic air duster to remove any dust inside the Cd player. There is no screws to remove the black tray nor the top lid, for I would like to replace by myself the optical head if needed. Wish their were a way to do it, but there no video on how to open and remove the black tray were there is no screws.
is this also applicable in my sony home theater system..dvd player displays no disc..
Does this method damages the DVD or CD? and would you recomend changing the optic lens instead?
You would need farrrrr greater wattage from the laser to even make a mark. Far more then the laser diode is capable of.
@@Electronicle thank you very much
How do I get to the lens/laser on a Robert’s mp43 sound
Thanks for the video.!! A great fix for me
oh, those handy hard-drive magnets ... :)
Me too ...best video ever
can you let me know the life of laser head ? My DVD Sometimes reads the CD/ DVD , but sometimes not. I always clean the laser head by head cleaning DISC . Sometimes it recognised & work properly. Sometimes not ? what could be the problem ?
wow good job
Would the same work for a Sony BDP-S300...???
It should. If you try and it doesn't work..you can always order a new laser/pickup assembly for it.
I have a Sony 3d player home theater system - experiencing no disk error. Can you give me approx cost to replace pickup assembly if the method you demonstrated does not work. I would not attempt this repair myself ,et it seemed straight forward enough. Thanks
What model
@@Electronicle HBD-E780W
@@tombateman7271 a quick google search shows approx $50 USD for parts. As far as labor, you would have to ask whomever you have doing the repair if you aren't installing yourself.
@@Electronicle Thank you for the info what do I need to order - I'm assuming I can search online for it... you have gone the extra mile - appreciated.
Gonna do this. Found a Phillips 2007 VCD/DVD/MP3 and cd player . Plays Cds fine but no movies or videos.
How to locate the potentiometer of Philips DVD Player 3880k ..?
Not sure. Don't have that model or a service manual for it
Hi my one Sony DVD player when i open to clean the laser eye after i fox back cannot open how to resolve the defect
Hey electronic man,. Why won't my dvd player read my Kareokee cd's,. Is that Normal??
