Wow I didn't know he was gone. The Great Wendell Lowe turned me on to this Brother. I saw him in Brooklyn at Wingate Park playing for Chaka Kahn. She left the stage for a break and he took a solo and 'My God' he was phenomenal! R.I.P. my Brother!
Man. I met Cornell and sat beside him as I was on the road playing for Bishop Clarence McClendon. He was Bishop Darrell Hines' organist. Still blows my mind 'til this day.....the musicality I experienced through him and the Bishop in Milwaukee! 💯✊🏽
Cornell. Thee COLDEST person I have ever seen in real life on that organ. Even taught me a couple of things on the drums. I remember sooooo manyyyyyy days losing my mind at Christain Faith Fellowship Church Milwaukee going all the wayyy back to before there was even a church and we had to borrow the church on 16th and Keefe. With him and Demonte Posey going INSANE!!!!!! He was the first person to take me to a real studio, first person to explain playing pocket to me, and was just an all around GREAT GUY! I remember I was stationed in Germany and I used to tell these cats from one of the churches over there about how COLD he was and they all were telling me about folks they knew back home etc, I had called him, (think I got his number from my mama) and called him and asked him to just play somethin over the phone (before youtube was created) for like 60 secs. He super didnt want to do it, but he was crackin up too. Man he was like 45 secs in to playin and them cats in my barricks room almost had heart attacks. lollllll. Man dude will be missed. friend and one of my mentors. Peace
Cornell is truly a legend. He has made a big impact on gospel music, by connecting it jazz to it. He was truly before his time. His solos were phenomenal. I always remember him, playing for New Direction and Praise 2. I still have old video footage of him playing and doing organ solos with Percy, Gerald, and Chicago Mass Choir. Truly one of Chicago's best. I remember him playing for Mary J. Blige with Rex Hardy, doing a great keyboard solo. I also remember him doing the battle of the organ with the great Wendell Lowe! He truly is missed! RIH. Thx for sharing Wheatworkspro. I love the NORD 2020 footage you captured too! Keep up the great work!
It would wonderful if posted some of those old videos on TH-cam. It's a great way to preserve the awesome gift of this legendary musician. Just a friendly suggestion.
Heaven has gained a lot musicians and minstrels over the last 3-4 years and God rest their souls. Those of us still here, let's do what we can to stay healthy as possible. God keep us all. Thanks for the upload Sebastian.
Don't forget to also musicians, let's re-dedicate our lives to the Lord, humble ourselves before him, REPENT of all/anything that's contrary to his Word, deny ourselves, take up our crosses and follow him. The mark of the true musician is not how well we play our instruments, but making sure worship is unto the Lord not each other. Thigpen was an example of the beliver.
RIP brother. While playing saxophone, I first meet him in Chicago early to mid-90’s at Pentecostal Temple COGIC south on 111th.st. Pastor Edwards. His mom attend church there as well. Extremely blessed musician.

Summer 2018. We were shook. He was my first real M.D. before I understood what that meant.
Still speechless.
