@Erin @ornithology dude and @Amy- thank you for your work. I too am a biologist from California, but my focus is in cell and molecular bio. I remember the day the 27th and last wild condor was removed from the wild to save the species from total extinction. I also remember watching nest camera footage of the first chick hatched and the joy of watching them slowly reintroduced into the wild. Thank you all for the immensely important work you do.
My wife and I went to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and stayed at a resort a couple years ago. Randomly, as we were being lazy in our room, I see a guy walking by with a Falcon on his arm. Intrigued, I run out to get a picture of the beautiful bird, and the handler was TOTALLY cool and without thinking he took my phone and started pulling off his glove and let me hold the Falcon while he took a picture. It was probably my favorite part of the vacation.
Each time I see a Red Tailed Hawk that lives around my home, I think of your videos. Just this morning the hawk flew across my yard and passed just a few feet above my head. Never any threats from the bird and I marvel at how it lives near me. Have a great evening, boop boop :-D
Wow. That's super cool! I have a mated pair of red shouldered hawks who live in my area. I'll see them together often, and hear them more so, especially on nice afternoons
We have a Raven pair living below the cliff and they come up and fly low over our front patio all the time. We say wow and boop boop to them! But they never talk back, lol. We'll keep trying!!

So glad the Vultures are getting some love! When I went last to South Africa I visited a sanctaury with 40 or 50 vultures in an avairy, all of them had been poisoned and would never fly again. It was very sad to see.
I think there should be a story on countries and indigenous people respecting the carnivorous vulture. There are some very strange customs and beliefs when it comes to the vulture and they play an important role in the earth's ecosystem.
God, that's awful. Here in the U.S. vultures experience similar abuse. They're lovely creatures (even when their faces are covered in guts and stuff, lol) with an extremely important role. I would like to see more raptor ambassadors focus on vultures. Even if people don't like some of the things they do (tearing rubber seals out of car windows, puking up gross stuff), basic compassion for a living thing would be nice to see.

Very informative, I work in a school and one teacher was against keeping birds in captivity, she actually said it was cruel keeping a bird on a post, once I had shown my hawk to each class she came over and ask the right questions, by the finish of our chat she said i had no idea how dedicated you falconers were, and learnt that the birds are regularly flown and loved, and the post was a block. Your channel in invaluable to keep the art up to date. Thanks for sharing.
A coincidence--the first falcon I ever saw up close was a peregrine also named Sophie :) The peregrine in my thumbnail is Gracie. She and her mate George nested on the top floor of my office building in San Francisco about 30 years ago for about 5 nesting seasons. A nest cam was set up by the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group and the chicks were banded each year. So fun to watch the eyasses grow and fledge. Other nesting pairs have followed George and Gracie over the years and the nest cam is still going strong, as are several other nest cam sites in CA. The peregrine population in California has increased after almost disappearing, but is still endangered. Check out Sophie's nostrils--see the nostril cones? Large airplane engines have them, too. Falcons are nature's ultimate flying machines :) Lovely video--hope you're doing well, Amy! Your little future falconer should be arriving soon!

You are doing a wonderful thing here by sharing your knowledge! Plus, I just LOVE Fable the Raven and the way you share your understanding of each other.😊 The first person that decided to understand the life of any bird of prey, utilize this knowledge to and hunt with the bird, breed the bird and then hand this knowledge down - will never know what a favor he did for us and our earth in this modern age - and in generations to come!
There's a Falconer who comes to the local dump and has his falcon fend off hoards of seagulls. So cool to see! I love your channel and the relationship you have with you flighted friends. Thank you

We need to support wildlife. Falcon's usually only get together for mating, then they are solidary birds. Falcon's are the fastest animal's on the planet earth. Thank you Amy for your love for these very special birds.

There are a handful of ravens that live around where I work. Always smile when I see them. Such fascinating creatures, Fable included. Give her some Cali love 😊. Doot doot!
My first reaction was "what do you mean, why is it relevant? because people enjoy doing it." That is to say, as a theoretical mathematician, I don't think every thing anyone does has to be immediately "useful" or "practical" all at once. Art is relevant! But later in the video 8:07 Amy said " long gone are the days where wildlife could exist in piece without human interruption so it's up to us..." to support the wildlife. Which gets at a discomfort I have about human relationship with animals. The discomfort is that we keep managing them despite calling them "wild". And I can see that part of the reason is this, that we're past the point of true wilderness and have to therefore preserve what's left in whatever interactive way.

I want to thank you and all the falconers of history for developing and sustaining this art and science. I watched from afar as a tiny population of California Condors was captured, bred, prepared, and released in Northern Arizona. I have seen them circling over the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and was inspired.

I looked into falconry many years ago. It’s a lifestyle more than a hobby. It’s very involved, weighing your bird to know whether to feed and or fly. It’s a full time job. I respect you all. Plus these birds are trained not tame, every falconer has lost a bird.
Thank you for you and people like you. I grew up in California, United States of America and when I was young DDT poison was used in excess and caused nearly all raptor eggs to be too thin. We lost 90% of all our raptors. Through conservation and some very caring people we have saved the Bald Eagle, Golden Eagle, California Condors, Kites, assorted Hawks, Ospreys and Falcons. I just want to thank you and others like you that care enough to keep these birds and other animals from becoming extinct. I get excited everytime I see some of these birds. There were many years that you could drive 300 miles with out seeing any. Now I can open my front door and see or hear one of these wonderful creatures.
Good to see you again say I was on a walk the other day and riding the thermal circling together was two eagles a red tail hawk in an Osprey I didn’t realize they all hung out together interesting what do you think
Beautifully put and with a very clear message that we should ALL listen to. Man has done more harm to life on this planet than any other creature and it is our duty to give something back - and what you do is precisely that.
Unfortunately we need to engage with wild animals because of other humans. The human love you have for your birds is so clear and you have taken a position to help and learn how they can co-exist. Your wonderful. Keep on trucking .
In the 1970s and 80s I volunteered at a bird rescue that only dealt with bird of prey. What I did was tame, as best as a wild animal could be tamed, the ones that could never be released into the wild, and take them to schools, 4H, etc. And to exercise the birds that could be released when the time was right, and make sure they were in good health when that time came.

The Vulture situation is heartbreaking. They are nature's recycling team and we need to give them loads of love!

Unfortunately we need to engage with wild animals because of other humans. The human love you have for your birds is so clear and you have taken a position to help and learn how they can co-exist. Your wonderful. Keep on trucking .

In the 1970s and 80s I volunteered at a bird rescue that only dealt with bird of prey. What I did was tame, as best as a wild animal could be tamed, the ones that could never be released into the wild, and take them to schools, 4H, etc. And to exercise the birds that could be released when the time was right, and make sure they were in good health when that time came.
