I think bend technique is the most important thing on the diatonic/blues harps. I used to practice the bendings with a piano and trying to get in tune those draw and overblow bends. Usually I tried to make my own exercises to practice bends.
Merry Christmas Liam. I’m a relative beginner and working hard on getting my bends spot on. I purchased a “Bendometer” app which allows me to see if I’m hitting the bend. My goal is to use the bends in a melodic format as you suggested. It’s difficult but the instant feedback from the app helps a lot. Love your teaching!
Thank you for this video. A good song to practice the bends as real notes, is O Holy Night in the low register, starting at 2 blow. So: +2 +2 +2 +3 It has all those bends in holes 2 and 3. First learn how to bend them in tune. Then try to make them sound like the other holes, so nobody notices it is a bend. Finally, get some throat vibrato on those bends. am still learning this. It’s a good song to work on for any level you might be at.
Merry Christmas been trying to get this right for awhile now as i play G,M's it's taking time to get right as low harmonica's are not the same as high but am get there . '
Yep it's a Hohner Special 20. I play a lot of plastic comb harps, I find that the cheaper wooden combs swell a lot and I don't hear a big difference in tone so it's just easier to use plastic. What's your preference?
