    I freaking love the Noisy Disk. Simple, brilliant... I wonder if all those programs that controlled seeks to make noise from the floppy drives would work with that...

      I wonder if all those programs which controlled the drives in nonstandard ways for proprietary bootable copy protection would work on this emulation. Probably 90% of all Apple II sofware had some kind of disk copy protection.

    Thanks for the reference to my project. Nice video and project evolution :) Luca

    Little tip here: since you already have a resin 3d printer you can just use the resin from it insed of this 'glue' stuff, basically it's the same... Yes it has different viscosity but you can get something similar by giving it a little bit of UV light then apply it to your desired spot and harden it fully

      Oh interesting. I’ve used resin to glue printed pieces together but never to other things. In this case it might not do so great after I painted it. I’ll definitely keep that in mind!

    Amazing! I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next. Very snazzy.

    Just saw this on Reddit. Awesome work, excellent execution 👏 Please keep making more stuff like this!

      Thanks so much! That’s the plan. I always have a project like this going and have meant to find a feasible way of filming.

      Curious, what’s your camera setup for this? I’ve wanted to shoot similar style videos for my own projects but I’m not sure how to do this kind of setup and still be able to work at the same time. Does the camera get in the way or make it awkward to do certain things?

      Shot all of this with my iPhone and a tripod sitting in front of me that absolutely got in the way! You can see in one part of the video where I go to grab the Noisy Disk and miss on the first try :). It definitely takes some getting used to but before I invest in some more equipment I want to try it out as simple as I can.
      I was able to get a video I was pretty happy with so I'm going to keep at it. The next thing I think I want to work on is some consistent lighting. I was only able to shoot at certain points of the day to make sure things were lit ok, but even then more light sources would help.

      Hey thanks so much. I'm definitely thinking of doing a video on the whole battery build; case, label, PCB, cloned chip and all.

    It's certainly cooler than just a dongle berry attached to the rear of the computer. However, it would be even cooler, if it could still read actual floppy discs too.

      Totally agree. That would have been awesome. I’ll need to figure that out next :)

    Well executed, but I wonder why? This looks like a permanent mod since the front panel is glued. So why not 3d print a complete front panel instead and keep the original one intact?

    Out of curiosity, what resin are you using?

    • @polymatt
      @polymatt  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s a mix of 70% ABS-like 30% flexible. Specifically Resione F69. I found the tough resins far too brittle so mixing it with some flexible resins work great.

    • @CheshireNoir
      @CheshireNoir ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@polymatt Thank you. I was also seeing problems with brittleness.

    Was the drive broken?

    • @polymatt
      @polymatt  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was. I also saved all the parts so I could repair it in the future if need be.

  • @Pest789
    @Pest789 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you had stated up front that this prevents reading original disks and you permanently ruin the original drive faceplate, i would have 30 minutes of my life back.

    • @Mainyehc
      @Mainyehc ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Come on, dude, it’s not like he ruined a prototype, or something. Also, from all the work I did with cyanoacrilate, I’m pretty sure that’s reversible (which is also important from a maintenance standpoint). See how much care he took in not drilling holes on the original case, and how he didn’t gut the internal components, by the way? Maybe one day he’ll revisit the concept and create a dual drive with a working lever. 🤷‍♂️

    • @Pest789
      @Pest789 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The title of the video implies it's an enhancement to the drive. This is not a combo. It's a little wart that prevents the drive from functioning.
