Sometimes, even when its dry, the pile of limbs, it acts like it don't want to start burning, other times, all you have to do is throw a match on it and its gone. Wish y'all would send us some of that rain down here in Alabama. We are very, very dry. Know thanks to Ian, it sucked all the moisture from our area, plus the other storm, Fiona. You are a person who knows the value of work, and you get more accomplished in a single day than most companies that have huge crews that do the work. Stay safe! Hope you get to feeling better.

I worked for a cattle and row crop farmer for 10 years after we sold out our dairy business. He had around 15 acres cleared on one of his farms and had it all pushed into one burn pile that was at least 100 yards long. He sent me out to set it on fire one day. A few days later I went back to check on it and the whole pile had burned up. The brush was very dry but I only set the pile of fire in one place on the end that the wind was blowing from. The wind was blowing straight down the brush pile. I was shocked at how well it had burned.

Well sir, from the look of it, I think you’re going to win. Heat is the key I would guess, the more heat, the faster the dry out, the nicer the burn. I think you’re working on a one match fire(s). Thanks for the ride along sir.

You can mitigate the squeaks to a degree by spraying them with a mixture of 50/50 desiel and used oil.
We used a hand pump pressure sprayer regularly on my grandfathers old cable operated dozer in the mid 70's with great success.
EPA might throw a hissy fit today though.

Oxygen. The more oxygen you can get to draw in low, the better. I would put more of the big logs stacked at base so there is more air space/voids and not smother the bottom with the small fines as much, think less dense and fluffy. Fire barrels work best with holes cut in the bottoms to allow up draft of air. It also usually creates less smoke, depending on what you are burning of course. But I understand not wanting a raging inferno, so it is a delicate balance. Hope you get to feeling better.

It's a real thing that, when you're going going going, and then you stop... that's when you will often get sick, and/or your motivation will crash. As long as you're going, your body and mind thinks it needs to stay active. But as soon as you stop, it goes into rest/recover mode. That's why even though bike racers in a 21 day race like Tour of France are killing themselves, many of them will still ride on the day off. Otherwise, many guys will fall apart and have to quit.
