A friend of mine works at western star here in vic. She told me that butter fully from Aldia was Western star butter. so to save money that's what we use. She works there and so she knows. just a heads up :)

Each week in Wednesdays our grocery ads are out in the newspaper. I study the ads and based on a loose menu, plan out according to sales prices at each store. Then on shopping day I have it sll mapped out where to go and what to buy. I find this saves me the most money. Great video! From Montgomery al 🙏 ❤️ 😊

I juggle my shops between all 3 stores I will chase the offers and play the game to make sure I am spending the minimum amount to be rewarded. Aldi I usually only go to when there are no offers and also for only a few items so I have a small stockpile I am working with to make sure we are shopping the best.

Really enjoyed this. I go to all 3 and even add IGA which is a locally owned supermarket. I find the Aldi bags best. I like using the Rewards card at Woolies and Flybuys at Coles. Aldi has some fabulous items in the centre aisle.

You could do similar compare with branded items at Coles, woolies and aldi, like for example, cadbury, arnotts, etc, even though aldi don't have a big variety of well-known top brands 😊

As an Aldi employee, I can say with confidence that if you ask the store assistant at the till to slow down, we have to comply with that request. We underwent training in March for an initiative called “moments that matter” which focuses on the entire customer experience. If the checkout you use has a dual shoot, it makes things easier on you to be able to pack your groceries. If not and it’s a short ended till, it can be quite frustrating. However, we have a packing bench available to allow you as much time as you need to pack your groceries. Because we only have limited tills, it is preferred that you pack everything into your trolley once they’re scanned and then bag them after… in saying that, I have a dual shoot till and I always ensure the customer that they’re able to take their time and I’ll use the other side of the shoot to accommodate the next customer. It’s a highly efficient system.
I hope your next Aldi experience will be better. Just mention the moments that matter and request they slow down. ❤️

Interesting key piece of information about pure profit for coles and Woolworths.
    It’s not the food.
    It’s selling data.
Suppliers can buy data about their competitors and categories.
The range of data costs are $8,000 to multimillion dollar data break downs of categories, times purchased, store specific data etc.
Most suppliers purchase this data every month or two, to ensure they aren’t losing an edge, such as seeing one of their competitors making more sales and doing their homework about how that competitor is using a different size, thus providing that useful information for them to consider changing sizing options.
    I shop Aldi

I will only buy my mince from my butcher OR from ALDI. I refuse to buy it from coles or woolies even though I love woolies. When I cook the mince from either of those shops, it smells and is always on date, not even close to the expiry that’s on there. Just my experience every time

I’m a woolies girl. I mainly go there because I I use my rewards card but im also an everyday rewards member. So I pay the subscription of $7 every month but I also get 10% off one of my grocery shops a month for woolies and Big W so the subscription basically pays for itself plus I get money off my shop. It’s worth it for people with kids who spend a lot on food imo. I’ve already banked $330 for Christmas this year just by boosting my items, not using my $10 off straight away and using my card at every shop I can.

Don’t forget if you have rewards app your card is on there to. Also if you have the EG petrol stations in your state (I’m in SA), you can scan your rewards card for the amount you spend on your petrol. It does cap out at $150. I do drive a 4x4 and when I fill up (on the cheapest days of course), if I’m already at the $150 I go that little bit over because my 4cents p/L comes into play, I’ll stop go in and pay for it, then go for a drive and come back (cause it tends to get busy after I arrive), and I’ll fill up until it’s completely full and get those points as well. 😀

All three have the same prices for staples, where you’ll save money at Aldi is on all the other stuff.
Yesterday I had a list on the coles app and ended up being near an Aldi so went there instead. On the coles app it was $270 (and almost everything was on special)
I bought 100% the same items and my total was $215.
Coles is my favourite but Aldi is definitely cheaper and I think if your going for cheaper brand then Aldi has much better quality.

An interesting comparing the 3. I think you should include the cost aldi charges for eftpos. It adds cost to the items. Secondly, you can't calculate the rewards points from the two other stores. It isn't worth going to Aldi when they charge for an eftpos card, when others dont and you get reward dollars for spending the same. Aldi has become less inexpensive and are losing their market share due to their inability to maintain quality and price effectiveness.

  • @cypher568

    Thanks for the video!
I'm lucky in that I live within walking distance to all three of the supermarkets (Aldi is 20mins away at my slow walking pace, the others 5-10mins) I've found myself shopping at all three but get the least at Aldi (bread, mince, chicken breast and some cat food only) Coles in my suburb only opened last December and replaced IGA (it had a fantastic cooked chook) but I do find myself shopping there before Woolworths on shopping day. I do get some things like toothpaste and washing powder at the reject shop as well.
My woolworths doesn't have the big pack of mince though, only the 1kg ones at $12, wish it had the bigger one. I do check the specials online each week (Monday at 5pm for both woolies and coles is when the new catalogue comes out) and try to plan accordingly ($1.80 a can for whiskas cat food last fortnight at Coles! haven't seen it that low in a few years!) As far as rewards cards I do like flybuys more than woolies as it seems to add up faster for me.

I live in US so my stores are different. I'm lucky that I have Aldi, Walmart, and 1 of my favorite grocery stores within a 1 mile stretch so I can do all 3 in 1 trip. You learn where the best prices or quality are. My Aldi might be set up differently than yours. The groceries are put in a 2nd cart at checkout and then you can take to your car or there is a long counter where you can pack your bags. I also like the pay for the cart idea. People don't leave the carts all over the place like they do at other places. Thx for showing the comparisons

I'm basically in the same boat. The grocery store I have shopped at my whole life is just over 2 miles from my house. Aldi is just over a mile further. So what I do I make a list for each store (if I have the energy that day) and go to Aldi first. Then the other store is on the way home anyway so I almost always stop there too to get what Aldi doesn't have and/or the loss leaders. I have two Walmart's to pick from each about 7 miles from my house in opposite directions. I don't tend to go to them because they are very run down and can be dirty at times. I'm on the US east coast.

There is one big difference between buying mince in America. We sell our beef by the lean/fat ratio. Most hamburger is 80/20, 85/15 or 93/7. This is on the packaging. The first number is the percentage of lean meant and the second number is the percentage of fat. The higher the lean number, the higher the price. There is hamburger with lower than 80 percent lean, but it is disgusting, IMO. I understand that Australia has Safeway. My town has Safeway, Walmart and a supermarket company called Rosauers and a company called Winco.

    • @cypher568
      @cypher568 ปีที่แล้ว

Interesting I didn't know that about the mince and always wondered about it. Safeway is just Woolworths and I don't think there are any Safeways left in Australia that haven't been renamed/rebranded to Woolworths. I think the last Safeway in Australia was renamed about 6 years ago.

I never found ALDI to be cheaper for everyday goods. As the video shows, a lot of stuff are 1 cent cheaper. However when factoring in ALDI's surcharge for card use, lack of membership reward points and loss of credit card points opportunity, the customer is at the disadvantage.
But the most annoying and sly thing I find with ALDI Australia is their lack of price transparency. You cannot reliably find out prices of their items online to compare shops, which I find incredibly deceitful.

I really dislike Aldi in the U.S. Long before the pandemic, Aldi was changing vendors and the quality of so many of the products that I routinely purchased dropped significantly. Since the pandemic it has gotten worse. The produce is hit or miss - sometimes it's good but sometimes not (spoils quickly). The prices are going up every week and the marketing trickery is so apparent (as it is at all grocery stores). The staff is very unfriendly/aloof. On the rare occasion that I encounter a friendly employee, they don't seem to last long. My go to is Walmart and Kroger but for sale items as their prices are insane as well. Thanks for sharing. Its very interesting to learn what is going on in other countries. The word here in the U.S. is that prices are going to continue to clime and we will once again have shortages. ~kendra

I have just switched from Coles back to mostly ALDI now. I like to go home and then compare prices and tends to be between 8-12% cheaper at ALDI for my shop (and that’s comparing it to Coles home brand as that’s what I used to buy) I guess it depends what you buy. I'm from Germany so I don’t mind the checkout speed. The German ones are even faster 😂

I shop fortnightly but check each catalogue on specials. I’m traditional Woolies girl and always used to find Aldi a bit cheaper but not anymore. I have a rewards card for Woolies but the goal posts seem to be getting further away requiring you to spend more to get that loyalty discount. I shop now where it suits and cheaper,I now buy meat directly from a farm and fruit and vegies from a market. I’m fed up with constant price increases for less amounts and quality. I’m going to soon make my own bread and soap but need to find a farm who sells milk and eggs directly around Tbar. Thanks for this Jenny. It just proves how much families are struggling.

Woolworths is the winner in this house! I found the staff at Aldi to be very rude. They didnt hand you your goods to be packed rather they threw them from one side to the other. Prices were not that much different. Coles was not too bad however the way they set out their store was very weird. No rhyme or reason to some items. Something else that matters here is the home delivery. Woolworths were by far the best. They were more than helpful and couldn’t be more courteous. Coles tends to just drop the bags at the door. In some cases right up against the door so you could t get out to get them!! Aldi does not deliver.
Another factor was the selection of brands available. Generally Coles had their own brand plus one name brand or maybe two. Aldi had only their brands. Whereas Woolworths had a good selection of brands to home brands. Aisle size too is a big factor here. Coles was always cluttered with stock to be shelved and bins of bits and pieces. ALDIs were clear but narrow. Woolworths were generally wide enough but they too tended to have a clearance bin here and there.
One extra bonus about Woolworths is their ‘Odd Bunch’ fruit and vegetables. As long as you don’t mind irregular shapes or sizes this proved to be a good cost saver. The other two don’t have this. You have to watch for sales to get cheaper green groceries.
As a disabled shopper l find it easier to get my groceries home delivered. It saves me a lot of stress and pain. And l am very thankful to Woolworths for how they look after me. Oh by the way l live in regional Victoria!!

You're so right about the supermarket bags. I can only use smaller bags because of the weight in each bag so I use a mixture of sizes. putting the lighter items in the large bags. You can buy tokens at Aldi. These three supermarkets try to equalise their basic food prices. I buy mainly specials, like you I sometimes stock up on our regular buys. This comparison would be a great way for those struggling to shop cheaper. All supermarkets put on lost leader specials which may be a bargin depending on where you shop. Cheers

Sometimes the store brands are ok but sometimes I also prefer the big name brands. That all makes a difference as to what you buy. If you’re on a strict budget you get what you can afford, but if there is wriggle room I’ll always go for the items that taste better/work better/aren’t in plastic (my pet hate)/made overseas instead of here (another pet hate). Usually Woolies for me, it I also shop at all three and shop the specials. I don’t think Aldi are as cheap as they used to be.

When I come home to Australia I love Woolie the best. I stock up on my instant coffee and passion fruit pulp and Aussie lollies. I think your groceries are well priced compared to USA. I coupon here but to get food healthier food it’s expensive.

Don’t forget your time to get the groceries and the journey too! Especially the traffic. I would also compare dates on the products too especially on fruit and veg, meat and bread.
I live in the UK with various health issues that make carrying shopping home on public transport very hard and painful. I tend to do a shop online which is delivered and carried up the stairs too. I prefer to shop with Waitrose compared to others. I will use Ocado if I have a discount code.

We don't have any of those stores here but my 3 major shopping is done at payless, costuless and happy mart or 7 day stores. I do look for sales mostly. Thanks for sharing. Hafa adai and love from the island of Guam 🌴❤🌴

We are located in Central New York State and shop Aldi weekly and have found the prices to be only slightly less than Walmart. We occasionally shop at Walmart, but I usually bring home unnecessary items. Other great grocery stores near me are Wegmans and Tops. Wegmans has only the freshest produce and they carry many specialty items. Tops has great weekly specials.

I wish to educate you about the issue of sitting that you have.
As an Aldi employee, I can tell you that we sit because it’s a rest from the insanely hard work we do every single day.
Let me set the scene for you.
ALDIs can be anywhere between 4-7 aisles in most cases. We arrive at 6am/7am depending on the day. We have between 5-8 staff depending on many factors. Usually we average 5-6 people.
We have THOUSANDS of products that need to be put out on the shelves within 2.5 hours on weekdays and 2 hours on weekends. We empty our decard boxes and restack our leftover stock on pallets in the warehouse as we go.
We have fresh produce, meat, chiller(lunch meat, cheese, yoghurt etc) freezer and ambient(cleaning, pantry, baby, drinks etc) then we have bread and bakery which has to be individually stickered with a sell by date.
After all of that is done, we need to sweep the store, empty our decard boxes, hako(mop) the store, if in NSW we also have alcohol to run out to the floor which can be 1000’s of KG of stock on any given day.
In addition to ALL of that, we also have to set up all of the specials tables by hand and put price cards on. We have audit criteria that we have to meet, spills to clean up, abuse we cop from customers on a daily basis for the most ridiculous things, stock to find that people have left in freezers or on shelves that don’t belong. Then In the middle of all of that, we are re-running the stock that didn’t fit out in the morning.
Please, show a little compassion for the workers at Aldi. We are doing our best and frankly, after I’ve spent 2.5 hours running load, I deserve to take a seat. It’s not at all easy. And we do it all with a smile on our face because we love our jobs and enjoy talking to customers and helping them.
I think today alone I put out over 2500kg of stock just by myself. Imagine what my colleagues all over the country have had to endure. We are very fortunate to have a free physio program when we get injured… and believe me, we get injured.

@@JTull I don’t believe in being served by people sitting I like to be eye level when I’m served instead looking down on some one people who pack my bags is worth it. They pack my stuff better than me as I would like to pack them as they get scanned not take it to a counter to do that’s double handling which I don’t believe in

Here in Michigan I shop at Meijer. The store is clean and their produce is very good. They have a fairly good selection of organic produce also.
We have an Aldi store but I've never shopped there.

Very interesting. Aldi used to be quite a bit cheaper than Coles and Woolies. Lately though it seems Aldi is on a par with the other two.

I nearly always shop at Aldi first. I have found that generally, their items are of better quality than the generic (and comparably priced) items from Woolies and Coles. They also have great items if you're entertaining, particularly specialty cheeses and crackers, at very reasonable prices . After Aldi, I go to Woolworths with a reward card. The reason Aldi checkouts are so fast, is they do not want you to pack at the register. They provide benches near the checkouts to do your packing. This makes the queue move much faster and keeps all those in the queue much happier. Very interesting upload. Thanks Jenny.
P.S. My local Woolworths and many others around me use coins in the trolleys. It depends in which council they are located. (In Melbourne Metro)
