ABC ran the weekend franchise from 1956 to 1968,ATV were weekdays from 1956 to 1968,then went all week until 1981,Central came in 1982,and Carlton in 1999
Central is available to viewers from West Midlands: 1956- East Midlands: 1956- South Midlands: 1989-2006 (rebranded as ITV Thames Valley from December 2006-February 2009 axed and replaced with ITV Meridian (Thames Valley) from February 2009-present)
I remember an animated 'Coming Next' on Central back in the day, but can't find it anywhere! It was definitely the same era as the ident at 1:32 though; anyone else seen it?
Depends on what you consider to be Americanisation I suppose. I don't really think of logos as American or any country though, you don't have Hank in a ten gallon hat shooting going ''YEE HA! YOU BE WATCHING CENTRAL DAGNABBIT!''
essvee86 No, that was a reference to ATV's programming policy, who, in a way, were Central in another form, sort of half a new company and half a reformed ATV.
Yes, as an American myself I can say Central (and to some extent ATV before them) had the most American/Hollywood/glitzy/polished feeling of all the ITV franchises. I remember reading in a magazine a long time ago that British TV evolved more from radio, while American TV evolved more from Hollywood.

You certainly don't get logos like these nowadays. Now we get just one single identity. ONE SINGLE IDENTITY!
2:11 Love the music 🎶

The early 90's idents had some seriously great music.
1:17 thank you for this one. Last time I heard and saw this was more than 30 years ago.
for some reason the ATV chimes remind me of the London underground

True, but the joke is that some people say that they make their shows more towards Birmingham, Alabama, than towards Birmingham, England.

In the 80s it was cool to be american. UK singers even sounded american.

Blame it on Granada.
Blame it on both and the 1990 IBA act.
also on the prime minister during 1990
@@jcraig6431 Central didn't do anything wrong in this thing. It was Cartlon and Granada actually.
