@@joerabi - I think tourists are looking for THE PAST while many of these “old” villages are striving for the future. In the process of making things more modern and clean, these “old” villages get wiped clean and remodeled in a sterile and unappealing fashion. Rome is “old”…you can see it, feel it in the architecture, the narrow passages, the ruins. Of course it’s just my opinion …but why would I ever come back to this place?
