@SNO Multimedia Dang, I've been trying a cinch knot with no success. I'll try this! Wow! A tree a 3/8"rope with this pipe hitch on a crow bar, reverse gear and my fender and headlight popped back in place! Thanks!
Thanks for the video. It works almost like the principle of Prusik Knot. I would make one change, though, and that is I would use Constrictor instead of Clove Hitch. I know it is harder to untie, but I rather be safe. Thanks again for the video. I have never seen this type application before.
this knot is very popular in the powerline field, its used alot for pulling wire and also when using spacercarts when riding along the powerline to stop you from rolling down the powerline and allows you to put yourself in the position to work. It must be adjusted alot when working with it. If you tie it your way the knot will constantly come loose when having to adjust it becoming an annoyance and you will be constanlty fixing it and snugging it back up. that way is incorrect for alot of the ways we use the knot, when this knot becomes a key part to your work you want to tie it correctly. Turns should always be on the tension side. Great video, that knot will with out a doubt hold! But not the proper way of doing it.
BAH1 I tried the hitch on 480 ft of wet PVC!! Slipped ever time! Finally did a series of half hitches 4-or 5 in a row. worked well enough for me. I did have use a simple Jorgenson cabinet clamp on some pulls for extra friction. those little clamps are amazing!
Appreciate the video. But my constructive feedback is that the less obvious part of the knot (tying off the clove hitch) is the part you glossed over and had your hands in the way. Whereas the obvious “wrap it around 4 times” is the part you showed very clearly. Would be great to see that final step with the same clarity as the first.
Thanks for the content! Looking to lift an old well pipe and was looking for a good knot. Knew about the clove hitch, but not the modifications with the 4 wraps. I appreciate it! 👍🏻 from me!
@@Eastbaypisces that’s a good question. Mine is an old hand pump style from the late 1800’s, and there is exposed pipe above the ground. Sounds like yours will be more difficult. Good luck.
You know I've been looking all around and it's about 50/50 ... it looks like a lot of people tie the pipe hitch in a way that pulls away from the loops, kindof like an icicle hitch or a gripping sailor's hitch. But some other people tie it the way you propose, kindof like an enhanced rolling hitch. At this point I'm not quite sure which one is better. PS -- I think that the way you propose is more adjustable, because the turns stay together. The "pulling away from the turns" way achieves some better constriction once the turns fall apart from eachother. But I'm not completely sure.
Excellent hitch. How well would this perform on my square roof bars with a sideways pull. Just wanted another tie down option when the other side of the bars are not accessible. Thanks for any advice. David.
A cool knot, I'll also check out t' see if the timber hitch will do the same with like-wise materials, cos' having no bark may make a difference, cheers buddy😁
The sailing knots I use are just as OLD, and you don't load up the bitter end, you load it up the other direction, and can do multiple wraps as well. Better?..agree to disagree.
All I can see is 2/3 screen of ace paint ad so damn irritating- full screen doesn’t work I’m Harding ace for that trick I paid a lot for apple big screen and I’m so angry
Nooooo because you didn't even show me how you finished that end knot now i can't even use this! I hate it when you guys show something and assume everyone watching knows what all these knots are your talking about you just assume that I should know it wel I am watching these videos to learn! So frustrating!!
Finally a short straight to the point video on how to make this awesome knot!!
You deserve an award! Here you go this is the best I can do🏆

Looks similar to a valdotain tresse knot, thank you for sharing this useful knot

How u get to it if its a ways down tho? Mine can't b reached by hand

@@nelsondodds2039 yea its about 3' down, i tried grabbing it w a wire or rope and i can get for a sec but then it lets go
your turns are backwards. turns should be towards the tension side and two half hitches on the opposite side. by the way thanks for the video.

Which one is stronger?
The pipe hitch or the icecle hitch?
Sorry. Im dumb. New to knots. I wish you showed the half hitches a little closer as the loops are easy. Sorry to be critical. Enjoyed it
I feel smarter after watching this video.
very helpful!
I need to get long pipe out of the well, this will come in handy. :)
This is a great video (Hi, I’m real)
Looks like a great knot for a Tipi on the cover pole, thanks a bunch.
John Bland good idea!
Excellent hitch.

David.
A lot like a distel..the bottom is a couple of half hitches instead of the bottom turn and end tucked in with an overhand knot in the end..
A series of half hitches may work too .
A cool knot, I'll also check out t' see if the timber hitch will do the same with like-wise materials, cos' having no bark may make a difference, cheers buddy😁
Morehu Morehu bamboo has no bark 👍
great demo
can i do this with a nylon rope with half of the current thickness that you are using ?
yes nylon will work
Not sure how I feel about loading up the bitter end vs the other side on the knot.

Agreed
@@FloridaHammer Your fucked up in the head man.. talking to yourself...
@@Srealdan lol, there were other comments before I swear.
@@FloridaHammer xD
Great video as usual. Keep it up!
Excellent. Have been looking for a knot that doesn't slip on a pipe, and this one doesn't.
Hey Grovers... just preparing to deliver on my promises
It looks like a Distel Hitch with an added half hitch.
I am almost certain that you need to be pulling the standing end the other way....
its correct. loops toward the load.
its just a variation of the valdetain tresse.
Yea it's a prussik class type of knot, just not on another rope.
Stop trying to be smart its nowhere near a valdetain tresse
If you think that is a variation of a VT, then I hope you’re not using VTs at height 😂
Awesome. That would come in handy.
Couldn’t see the film very well just ad!
Like kahwhite alot
I believe that hitch is also called the icicle hitch
Yes
+tman dunk It's an icicle hitch with a half hitch at the end. good hitch, tho.
drewstarr71 I don't think it is exactly like the icicle hitch but this one seems much easier to tie.
Defo not an icicle hitch
All I can see is 2/3 screen of ace paint ad so damn irritating- full screen doesn’t work I’m Harding ace for that trick I paid a lot for apple big screen and I’m so angry
Thumbs up bro!
a movie? cool!
it's cloudy. why sunglases? =)
probably two black eyes....
How insensitive can you be? He obviously has two glass eyes.
Why not?
i just wanted 2 know if it would work on a straight slick pipe ....not trying to be a smartass or anything
Sounds like you don't need to try to do that .
because bamboo is slick but wider at the rings
I rig steel pipe with a pipe hitch up 400ft cell towers, why are you questioning it.
@@PhilDesigns Because your loading the knot wrong the coils should be towords the load
@@Srealdan there are several ways to tie a proper pipe, configured differently.
nice!
why didnt u use pvc pipe
1 clove= 2 half hitches
Two opposing half hitches
I’m a journeyman lineman, and this is incorrect.
Different from the grapevine hitch but is correct for the pipe hitch knot . So there !
I know it by a different name .
Grapevine ? It is different with last two ( or three ) steps depending where they were learned . I know a handful of knots so I had to check in .
im sorry but that is a triple sliding hitch(variation)
That’s a grapevine.
Death Grip Hitch: th-cam.com/video/NGBvlWjfJME/w-d-xo.html
aaaaaaaaaaaand herniated disk!
Psssst. That is not a knot, Shhhhh.
Hideous. Use a prussik hitch with joined ends and fasten other rope to first rope. IDC that it won't slip. It looks awful.
Your pulling it in the wrong direction.
Pulling opposite of wrapping direction is correct .
Pepa ping
