  • In this video I review my Toro Grandstand 36" mower. This mower was purchased to be used in my lawn care business. Its compact size and productivity is the reason it was purchased. I have not had any issues with the mower but it only has about 86 hours on it. This mower is a great option for a lawn care company that has primarily smaller yards or yards that have small back gates.
    The mower is very productive even with its smaller cutting width. The speed of the machine makes up for the lost time compared to walking behind a machine all day. If you need a compact mower for your business I would recommend this mower. It does have its Pros and Cons so that must be taken into consideration when you make your decision on a machine.
    Pros and Cons:
    Pros:
    Productive
    Well Built
    Good Cut Quality
    More Affordable Compared to a big Zero Turn
    Cons:
    Expensive Compared to a Walk Behind mower
    Heavy
    Does Not Stripe Very Well
    If you are interested in this machine you can visit your local dealer or for more information and specs you can visit the Toro website at the link below:

    I like the stand on mower 2. Reasons 1. It give the customer the perception that you are working instead of sitting down on the job. 2. You are more apt to pick up litter when you are on a stand on mower because you are going threw less steps to shut it down. 3. Threw in one more for good measure these mowers lay the absolute best lines if you are proud of the work you do ,like I am looking back and taking a Victory lap. It's like yah I did that.

    I own a small landscaping business on this side of the Pond, in the good ol' EU. And the other day I was kidding around, checking prices of mowers, (I still own and do my work with 2 Honda 21" push mowers), and kind of day dreaming about what would be my next step in a year or two..
    So I browsed a web site of my local Toro dealer. Given the budget that I will be prepared to invest into a mower in the future, I realized that I'll be buying the 50" Timecutter.. Since I will have to buy a trailer too, Timecutter, being the cheapest Toro z turn, is the only thing I ill be able to afford. Mind you, that Timcutter costs 5500$ here.
    And then I remembered the stander class of mowers, naively thinking they are cheaper than the classic z turns.. So again I searched for the Grandstand on that same page and I almost got a heart attack. This exact 36" Grandstand (of course it's the 2021 model) costs 14 000$).. WTF??? My enthusiasm was rejuvenated a bit when I saw that Ferris charges "only" 11000$ for their stander mower..
    Anyway, the prices are unbelievable, especially compared to the ones you guys pay for this machine in the US. That 50" Timcutter is 3500$ in the US....Be thankful guys....

      Unfortunately I'm sure prices are higher another country is due to shipping. And the machines are usually manufactured here in the US.

With the only 15hp kawasaki motor available on this 36, it does cut well but which it came with 18.5 or 19 hp. over all preference, if u would purchase another 36 it's either a scag 36 or the previous 36 wright stander idensity. Can the 36 fit in most gated backyards or should I go with the 32? It will be the most used lawnmower because yards here are small. Like 30 yards.

    • @scottwalker19
      @scottwalker19  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That depends on your area specifically. Around my area all the gates are usually at least 36" wide or more. I know in some other areas the gates could be smaller. If I was doing a lot of yards with small gates I would measure all of the gates and compare them to see which mower size would make sense for you! I hope that helps!

      Thanks! I tried it with the stand up and since it is only the 36” model it almost needs some weight over the wheels since there is not much weight there. I found that standing on the platform usually gave me more traction. If you were going up a steep hill then sometimes it was best to step off in order to keep the front from raising up.

    Your machine moved when driving? Don't you strap it down properly when transporting it?

    • @scottwalker19
      @scottwalker19  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on how I am transporting it I strap it down in different ways. If I am hauling the mower by itself then I would recommend strapping it down. However, the way I have my trailer set up I do not need to use straps on all of the mowers because all three of my mowers are wedged together creating a tight fit so there is not much room for them to move around. I also mainly transport only with my enclosed trailer. Obviously everyone should strap everything down every single time as that is the best practice. That mainly helps with preventing too much weight transfer if you were to make sudden movements with the truck and trailer. I hope that helps!

    What exactly do you mean by lifetime spindles? Sounds like a really great deal

    • @scottwalker19
      @scottwalker19  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The grease that is inside or whatever they are using is suppose to last the life of the spindles. I am not sure what they have inside but it is probably just a sealed bearing of sorts. Toro only started using this on the newer mowers. I believe 2016 and up and I am not sure it is on every model. I think they were putting them on the grandstands for the most part as they were trying to make them easier to service for commercial users. However Lifetime does not mean that they have a lifetime warranty. They are probably warrantied under the normal warranty period which depends on the machine you get.

    • @scottwalker19

      Clan Crusher No break downs but just recently I had to replace the valve cover gasket as it was leaking. Looks like it split so it was leaking a little oil. The gasket was only $3-4 and it took about 20 minutes to fix. Not a big deal there. The gaskets are just paper and it was the one right near the exhaust so I may be the exhaust that caused it or the gasket could have just been bad from the factory. I do not know but it was an easy fix and not a big deal.

    • @scottwalker19

  • @sparkymcspark8446
    @sparkymcspark8446 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Standing is FAR better than sitting. I don't care what kind of suspension or seat you have. Also on hills you don't have to bend your back left then right over and over again. Much better on the body to bend at the knees then to compress the spine. I've mowed yards 2.5 hours straight and would much rather stand the whole time.
    Pro tip; keep your knees bent most the time. If you see a rough spot coming up, just stand on your toes slightly. You'll just float over the bumps.

    How does this do on a hill vs a walk behind

    • @scottwalker19
      @scottwalker19  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never used a 36" walk behind. However the 36" Grandstand does not do as well on hills as the larger models. The weight of the 36" mower seems to be higher (not a low center of gravity) plus it has a smaller wheel base. If we are talking about very steep hills then from a safety stand point walk behinds are the best option .

    Does the Grandstand mulch?

    • @scottwalker19
      @scottwalker19  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found that the smaller deck grandstand (with a real mulch kit) was able to mulch dry grass very well. If the grass was damp or overgrown too much then it just seemed to not have the deck space to process the material and it would just get so clogged up under the deck that it would touch the blades and it was not a fun experience to have to scrape it out and idspose of the clumped grass. On another note I do know people that use the larger deck models (48'+) and they are capable of mulching just fine.

    • @timothydooley1550
      @timothydooley1550 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been mulching full time for the last 2 seasons. I use 30" turfmasters, 36" Grandstands turbo force, 48" Grandstands turbo force all with toro mulching kits on them and it's just amazing! Even if the lawn is in the higher side it's still faster to double cut an area than it is to bag it. Here on Long Island we don't let it fly unless it's big property or commercial. During leaf season just double cut and your golden. No carting away or bagging. I wasn't a believer myself until I saw my buddy's company doing it. I went and ordered all the kits that very day. Haven't looked back since!

    • @scottwalker19
      @scottwalker19  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on the conditions. If it is real dusty or you are chopping leaves I would do it as often as you can because the filter location gets a lot of dirty air flow in those conditions. When its spring time and the only thing you are doing is chopping grass then I do not do it as often.

    • @scottwalker19
      @scottwalker19  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Strapping a mower down is definitely a good idea and probably a law in most states (I am not a state trooper). They would be classified as equipment and that requires them to be strapped down. Plus if you are in an accident and the mower flies off the trailer and causes more damage to something else or gets destroyed insurance is likely to not cover a claim. (not an insurance adjuster but we all know how they operate!)
