One thing I've noticed driving around in TDU is that you get actually punished for driving off the asphalt: When you hit curbs or roadside elements not only you get speed penalty, your car also get unbalanced and you risk spinning out, especially without driving helps. I've spun several time in my first hour because I was always putting one or two wheels on the curb when cornering. That's an interesting quirk, because it rewards precise lines when driving. And something I never experienced in any Forza Horizon games, where I can tank through every curb/roadside element with minimal impact on my car and driving. Also I've read lot's of hate towards supposedly "bad optimization". Even if it's a pre release demo (and we don't even now when this build was compiled), the game feels pretty optimized alredy. I'm running it on a Ryzen 3600 and an RX5700, hardware that was considered mid tier alredy in 2019, and it can be even surpassed by current entry level hardware. And yet, at almost all lowest settings/ 1080p native (and max texture/anisotropic filter) I can almost hit consistently 60 FPS, and I'm always GPU limited, not CPU limited. Even the 8GB vram of my GPUs are less of a problem tha I expected. No stuttering, no shader compilation crap. And if I really don't care about FPS, I can cap the game at 30 (via drivers), almost max out the settings, and get rocksolid 30 FPS, still within the 8Gv frame buffer of my GPU. Of course, there it's a matter of preferences. I could even cap the game at 40 fps. The point of contention is: This is an MMO, it's being sold and marketed as an MMO. On STEAM the word MMO is one of the first you read in the game decription. Meaning it's always online. And, like any MMO in history, sooner or later is gonna shut down. Even the past two games, even if they had an offline component, suffered quite some cut contents when their server shut down. That's what's gonna break or make this game: how long will the servers live/eventual offline mode at the end of services. And if the game is not a success, those server may be closed much sooner than expected.
FH5 is definitely better in a lot of aspects because its an AAA game. TDU on the other hand looks impressive for a small budget game. It has a lot of potential. They just need to fix the bugs and optimize it better.
@@od13166 I agree with you, 3 months is not much, my hope is that Nacon will delay it by few more months or that this demo was ready to be shipped for some time and it isn't a representation of their most recent version of the game, but just a public stress test for their servers.
That's just quite strange that TDU's budget is way smaller, but the price for the pre-order is the exact same to FH5 when it was just released. Really hope the price will be lower when Solar Crown releases completely, cause there's not a lot of people who would agree to pay $59 for that game...

Test drive map isn't just countryside generated map, its a win to tdu, sound is way better in tdu tho, comparing tdu 2 to tdu solar crown its a huge upgrade, but comparing fh3 to fh5 there is barely any great upgrade. I think tdu developers are doing a great job

That's why it looks flat in the daylight but astounding at night. Of course, this is just a pre release demo, we don't even know when this build was compiled.
Just a reminder TduSC wont release for another 3 months and the Demo is likely closer to beta test build since it takes lots of time to tidy up code before release
When you see this video, you know how good Forza Horizon 5 actually is. I think we should also be grateful for what a great time we live in playing video games.
Forza is an excellent game. Beautiful graphics and good optimization, fun handling physics, a huge car collection (+800 unique cars) and most of them can be modified for different purposes (drift/racing/rally etc..) My biggest criticism of it would be the map. But that’s just me. I prefer modern cities when I’m driving modern cars. The fundamental are done right, just needs some polishing

(FH does) modern cities are not all just repeating concrete apartment buildings, they have family houses too. modern cities have memorable places in them with landmarks (FH5 does) Ferrari dealerships look noticably different from cheap asian brand shops in actual world (and in TDU2 world too). FH5 entire map is Mexico, and if it feels dead for some teen Tokyodrift FF fan, sure, but calling TDUSC city vibrant and lively is just ludicrous.

Hong Kong has very few single family homes due to the low availability and high demand of homes. It also has landmarks too like the Bank of China Tower. TDU is absolutely another game! It’s not for Horizon or Crew fans? Yes, TDU is poorer, cheaper, has less graphics and bad optimization, but Tdu has a completely different approach to car physics, this is due to an experienced developer of rally simulators and the implementation of physx. This is not another Horizon and I am very happy about it.
Remember FH5 is AAA and TDU is AA - FH5 map is a complete wasteland and feels boring while TDU map is 1:1 Scale of Hong Kong Island. For me, TDU wins 🏆 ❤

I barely played TCM and paid £40 for it... Just feels childish - TDUSC takes a lot of skill to perfect without traction control with manual gearbox etc and needs a lot more fine tuning too.. Here's hoping but I have been playing the demo since it was released almost non stop in my free time!!

the criticism is valid but harder to put in words for lay people. It is the architecture and urbanism of the TDUSC world which is not immersive. (remember how in TDU2 the Ferrari dealership was so special compared to some cheap asian brand? Remember the villas on special spots? When did you spot any family house in TDUSC? Everything is just Radiant/SolarCrown. Roads network feel like hot-wheels track. It is just shit, and cannot be easily changed in few months time to the release).

Everything is just Radiant/SolarCrown. Roads network feel like hot-wheels track. It is just shit, and cannot be easily changed in few months time to the release).

Yeah cause it's super easy and not realistic at all maybe? Horizon is more arcade than sim which make it feel dull after a while. At least now in tdu , cars seems to have a feel when you turn and how they handle
