It's been 5 years since "River" was uploaded to TH-cam. (It's crazy that 2 of those 5 years were the pandemic!)
It was my first "class video" ever! 40 million views now, and it's still shocking that people liked a routine that was not to a popular song, where we stood still for the first 2 eight counts.
I retaught the routine at Millennium 5 years later to bring it full circle.

Omg she DID that! One of the things I love about dance as a form of expression. Everyone brings themselves...their life force... to the skeleton of a dance. We provide the "meat" on those bones. We bring the whole thing to life.

I just love Stevie. Her performance years ago was iconic and now seeing her here again with the legend Galen Hooks i just can't help but feel happy.
Love the diversity of technique between Stevie & Jojo. Both nailed the routine flawlessly!! Stevie dances from the soul with precision, grace, and sex appeal. She can captivate an audience effortlessly, leaving them wanting more!
Jojo is fierce, edgy and unstoppable. Definitely a force to be reckon with. Both ladies will succeed for many years to come.

My teen daughter taught me (then 45)the choreography . I hadn't danced since high school, and it was so liberating to let loose on such power choreography. As a mom sometimes we forget that we are women. Thank you, it was definitely a turning point for me. Also my husband sure loved it 😉
I'm obsessed with the fringe on the leather jacket Jojo's wearing. It emphasized the sudden freezes that Galen uses often in her work.

Years ago Stevie's performance was what got me into dancing and now seeing her and Galen work on this dance again makes me so happy.
Everyone did amazing but Galen just owns this, imo. Her control and restraint is just unmatched. She's like a bubbling volcano just threatening to blow, giving off short bursts of energy before bringing us back down again. She really knows how to work the anticipation and play the spaces in between the beats as much as the beats themselves. She's has absolutely mastered the art of holding still and making us wait for it.
No matter the song, choreography or other superb dancers, it’s always Galen I can’t stop watching. That’s her signature I think… she locks your attention in place and doesn’t let go.
The original video 5 years ago was the first dance video like this I saw on IG and after watching it and Love on the Brain I was hooked. I’ve followed so many amazing dancers and choreographers!

This dance brings back so many memories, I started dancing when I was thirteen and for my second dance performance ever we did this choreo.

Love this dance so much! and of course seeing Stevie do this the first time was unreal. There was something so sad and haunting in her eyes at that time. Now 5 years later theres so much power and strength. anyways love this and love Galen!
I remember when I first saw the og choreo in 2018 and it blew my mind, I was staying up until 2 am dancing around the house and then in 2020 I took part in the online classes, so for months after I would do the choreo at least once a day. The power of dance
I thought, even as a choreographer of the original piece, that after a few years the same emotion and precision that you did it with before, that you would lose it now. I was looking for that, but I am happy to say I still felt the same goosebumps I did watching Galen do this now, even in sneaks, that I did the first time. Love it.
I used to dance as passionate as them. 5 years later watching the same choreo by Galen, but I cannot dance anymore. I had spine issues and I am scared of surgery. My world has changed totally and I miss dancing so much.
Jade Whitney’s moves are amazing!!! Smooth when they should be, perfectly matches the beat with her arm jerks/movements. Have watched her performing this over and over!!!

Wow, Stevie is so consistent, at first I was like, why are they showing her original dance again, then I realizedit was her now.... the few subtle differences I like even better than the original and that is saying something, Stevie is just so on point and is even better, and someone in a comment somewhere else coined the word hairography I think it was for Stevie.... is still amazing too.... not to mention Galen's choreo is soooooooo amazing to begin with!!!
