Always learning so much with your tutorials. Thank you for your efforts. This color harmony series is just great. Love every minute, and hope a lot of tutorials will follow.
Fantastic Episodes! I was excited when Joanna Kustra's color grading video came out three years ago and tried to accomplish similar things in darktable. Now you gave all the hints to achieve that in perfection. Super examples, well explained. Your videos are always impressive! Thanks for the hard work on them.
Very useful examples, Boris. The method is developing here.. right until the point where I have to decide which input color I have to adjust in which main channel? But I get closer, still without having a clear rule in my head for that part. I am looking forward to the third part of this series. Thank you for all your work.
My trial and error method is like this: I have established the relevant color points around the best fitting figure of triangles in the vector scope, and I have masked the first color set of dots in the next color calibration module. At this point I need a rule or two - First, which main color channel is the one to select, and based on which rule? Second, which input color within that channel will move my dot into the triangle in the optimal way, based on which rule? I try to think out the rules, so far without any luck - So, at that very point I try this and that slider, plus, minus - and sure enough, the dot will move and can ultimately be parked where I want it. But did I gain anything? So far my results have been less than impressive. Unofficially ;O) my color grading is more like this: I mask as described and use the Colorfulness and Brightness sliders and the main color slider in each color channel until my selected area looks best, and I get help from the color picker for critical points. It ends up being satisfying, but it takes time, and for sure I will not be sure, if I got "fighting" colors sufficiently separated. I hope Boris will come up with a rule for this blurry part, which of course is clear like day to him - and probably exercised intuitively. But deep down he must know the rules he uses but doesn't communicate verbally, because it's so very easy for him to select the right combination? Or he has actually communicated the rules - but I still didn't get it.
Hey Boris, have you considered doing a video on how to edit like film in darktable? I am struggling to find the right settings in color calibration and cb rgb. Your take would be very interesting :)
I mean how to make a digital photo look like film. For example Portra400 or so. There are a few videos on how to do it with Lightroom but only a single one done by Aurelien about how to edit in Darkroom. I tried to replicate it but didn’t get good results. I think your take would be very interesting :)
Hi Boris, How do you get a square selection in the colour picker? I'm a French user and I follow your very constructive videos with great interest. I have the same issue. I don't have an intuitive feel for the channel mixer. Is there any other good alternative to shift the colors?

I don't know how this ended up in my front page, but it is awesome
Just another amazing video showing your skills... Thank you very much, they are highly informative and appreciated
How would your workflow change with the new Color Equalizer module?
Super interesting video! Thank you so much!
Nice work Boris. Thx. What is in your "sharpen 3" preset?

I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by "edit like film".

Hi Boris, how far back in your videos can I go, before they won't work with the current version of Darktable? I'm finding them very helpful
This is a difficult question... I think from ep. 39
Thanks for the reply 👍

@@s7habo merci beaucoup 👍
I don't think the change of colour in the path in the first example looks natural. Interesting techniques though. Thank you.
