A response from Google: This would lead to one of the biggest Stephen King book controversies: after the Losers become lost in the sewers trying to make their way back to the surface, Beverly decided to have sexual intercourse with all the boys from the Losers Club. This allowed them to remember the way back so they could make it home

Not so fun fact: the opening attack against the couple at the carnival is based on an actual attack that took place in the early 80s in Bangor, Maine - King's hometown - against Charles Howard and his bf Roy Ogden. Charles tragically ended up drowning after the killer bullies threw him over a bridge. It was horrendous and King included it intentionally to draw attention to it. It's sadly still relevant in 2022 and it was meant to condemn, not belittle or condone hate crimes.

yeah the weird "book moment" (well, the most notable one, anyway) that they didn't include in the movies was right before they fight Pennywise in the sewers and they have a kid orgy and Bev, being the only girl... yeeeeah definitely not a made for TV moment. and you're right that the Stephen King bit about endings is definitely a dig at how many readers of King's work tend not to like his endings. he's a great sport about it though and I love that he cameo'd in this!

So, the point of this book and the films is you can’t turn away from your childhood fears. They’ll always come back to haunt you as adults if you don’t face them. The clown is just symbolism for facing those fears.
Bill has to deal with the death of his brother which he feels he contributed to by lying about not feeling good so he didn’t have to play with him. His body was never found. The clown is just the way the horror aspect of the book/film explains it (from a child’s perspective). It’s just symbolism.
Eddie has to deal with his emotional abuse from his mother which ended up causes him to marry a women just like her who is just as controlling.
Bev has to deal with the SA and physical abuse that her father inflicted on her also causing her to marry a man much like him.
Ben has to deal with growing up fat and realizing he can’t run away from that fear just by losing the weight, he has to love himself regardless.
Richie has to deal with the fear of being gay and the fear of not being accepted for who he is.
Mike has to deal with being black in a predominantly white area and the fear of the abuse that came with it.
Stanley couldn’t handle the pressure of his own personal fear and ends up unaliving himself due to the fear, representing that not everyone is strong enough to face these fears.
The clown is what brings the group together as children and as adults as they realize those fears once again. In the book, Pennywise comes out of his long sleep every 27-30 years, symbolizing the amount of time it would take those childhood fears to come back and haunt an adult.
If you pay attention, every time the children in the first film or the adults in this film are attacked by Pennywise the clown, it is when they are already making an attempt to face their true fear (for example the old lady turning into Pennywise when Bev shows up at her childhood home. She is doing so in hopes of making amends with her father only to find out he has long passed away. The clown and the possession of the old lady is the symbolism for facing that fear ; or the axe man that attacked Richie, it was a statue that he walked by every day after school that he was secretly attracted to but never really knew what it meant).

Also I thought the scares were pretty good in this movie. Not all of them were like as immediatley like jump scare frightening but they added the trauma angle to a few of them (like Ritchie's bits) in ways that I thought were REALLY effective. Like, lighter on the jump scares but SUPER unsettling

    • @complex2live
      @complex2live 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Honestly, I will agree. I will go one step further and say that it's better than Chapter 1. I didn't like the jumpscares in Chapter 1 because I think they relied too much on the CGI. For example, the deaths of Georgie and Vicky. The reason Georgie's death didn't disturb me that much, is even though he lost his arm, you see Pennywise preparing to bite him, and takes him a good long while to actually reach and drag Georgie down there. Not to mention when he bites Georgie it looks a lot like a mask. But then look at Vicky. Vicky and Pennywise talk for awhile, but instead of the preparing of his mouth, Pennywise just stands there. And once Vicky interrupts, that's when he bites here. It's not only scare because it's sudden, but also because besides the teeth, there isn’t any CGi or anything

Yes, you are correct Seb, there is a wierd scene with the kids in the IT book/novel that wasn't included in the movie version cause it was morally fucked up and way too explicit for TV... So basically in the comics the kids had to have an orgy with each other to power up this turtle which is a arch enemy of Pennywise, let me explain... At the beginning of the universe there is the Dark Tower, a tower beyond comprehension to mortals... It holds all of reality, everything before and after, this tower consists of 6 so called "beams" that keep it together, there are also 12 animal guardians who protect these 6 beams, the reason why there is more animal guardians then beams is because said beams have two sides to them, the front and the back so the need double the number of guardians to keep it stable, The animal guardians all figuratively resemble one animal of their own most of them named after real word mythology, The Animal Guardians being : Camazotz(Bat),Aslan (Lion),Shardik(Bear),Rocinante(Horse),Chuchundra(Rat),Navius(Wolf),Owsla(Hare),Garuda(Eagle),Garm (Dog),Jasconius(Fish),Babar(Elephant) and then we have Maturin (The turtle) being one the first guardians. At the same time Maturin was birthed so were the Deadlights (IT'S TRUE FORM), they are and always will be enemies beacuse Maturin had the morals of protection and is kinda like the grandpa of the universe protecting it... And then you have the Deadlights, a cosmic form in the shape of a spider, this was the incarnation of pure evil and hatred, a unstoppable cosmic force wanting to annihilate The Dark Tower and consume the whole universe, these 2 creatures lived hateful but mostly peaceful lives just trying to get by until Maturin one day got a stomach ache and threw up our universe,of course IT was jealous of this so he decided to send an avatar of himself on to earth in the shape of a meteor creating IT, and then IT caused havoc on the Derry streets so Maturin decided to intervene, however Maturin doesn't have any powers on this world, only when he is a cosmic being, so he needs these kids "power" to make him strong enough to beat the avatar of IT which he did, well kinda... so technically Pennywise isn't dead considering it's part of the Deadlights which can't be killed beacuse they are pretty much omnipotent or at worst nigh-omnipotent. So the Deadlights aren't defeated but the physical vessel of them (IT) is dead which is fine because the Deadlights can't do anything without a physical body like Pennywise beacuse it is Maturin's universe and the Deadlights can't enter it in it's true form, only a physical manifestation/vessel which is now dead... So yeah Pennywise shouldn't be coming back even though I don't know what is stopping the Deadlights to just create another vessel and keep doing it...

There are hints in other Stephen King novels which suggest that Pennywise survived. Not survive the final battle with The Losers Club, but that the Deadlights are (as you said) still alive. In these other novels, Pennywise does make physical appearances so I assume that IT came back to our universe to continue feeding.

I saw part 1 and 2 in theaters & for part 2 my best friend and I had nearly an empty theater and I just remember so many scenes making us crack the fuck up. Ended up better than I expected because we were extremely depressed after that opening scene with the friggen hate crime that we didn't anticipate at all (maybe we shouldn't have been so shook since Bowers & his psycho posse were the most evil teen villains ever) but anyway, the remakes were great overall. Amazing casting!

Same. I think they should have gone a little harder on the horror for the 2nd movie, but that doesn't make it a bad movie.

30:32 this movie definitely felt all over the place (imo) like I can’t believe its it’s 2 hours and 49 minutes long; it absolutely coulda shaved off several scenes and still delivered on the story being told. But honestly that’s my only real complaint- I enjoyed the rest of the film pretty well. This specifically (Bill reacquiring his stutter throughout the terror) was a nice little detail that I enjoyed. It definitely felt like whoever wrote the screenplay *did* pay close attention to the first film and delivered very well on making it feel a seamless continuation of the same story being told.
Remains a “only sometimes” film for me because of how long it is, but I definitely think it wasn’t bad at all, especially compared to other horror sequels.

IT is such fun horror. It's one of the few movies that does horror well. There's jumpscares but they aren't cheap. And there's great humor and fantastic actors to offset the scary scenes. I love it! Pun fully intended

SEB, the expression is "SPITTIN [no G] IMAGE", not splitting image. It comes from the Southern American idiom referring to how much a child looks like their parent "He is the *spirit and image* of his daddy!" Something like that.

    Great reaction! 😊
I've been looking forward to this one ever since you reacted to the first one last year.
I'm probably one of few that actually like this movie. The casting for the adult Losers Club was perfect. Especially Bill Hader as Adult Richie. And of course, Bill Skarsgård once again does a great job as Pennywise.
Fun Fact: 6:39 That is in fact the same actress that played Eddie's mom in the first movie and in the flashback scene in this movie.
I keep forgetting about those two times that Richie throws up in this movie.
18:16 "A weird scene with her and the boys in the book". Thankfully that was left out of both movies.
22:57 I love this Stephen King cameo with James McAvoy(Bill) in the pawn shop.
I really like the final battle between the Losers and Pennywise. Except for Eddie's death. I hate that moment.
One of the things that that I like about this movie is the ending. They all kept their memories about everything that happened in Derry after they left. And in the original 1990 mini-series and in the book, their memories faded again once they all left.
Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊

In the 1990 miniseries, it says that he ended up working on a movie with an actor who looked and acted a lot like Eddie. And in the script for the new movie that was written back in 2010, it said that Richie was supposed to be in a relationship with his manager named Steve Covall. So maybe Richie will end up with someone still.
